I know he has a lot of fans here so I figured I'd pass along the news.

Open wildcard for Escude
Sportal

Frenchman Nicolas Escude has received a wildcard into next year’s Australian Open.

Escude suffered through an injury-plagued 2003 that saw his ranking drop from 34 to 114.

After a frustrating start to the year, Escude’s season ended at Wimbeldon in June, when a groin injury forced him to retire from his clash with Juan Carlos Ferrero.

As well as Escude winning a berth for the opening Grand Slam of the year, Open organisers handed French youngster Tatiana Golovin a wildcard.

Golovin is considered one of France’s brightest young stars, having reached the quarter-finals of both the US Open juniors and Junior Wimbledon.

Ah, Escude. What talent! Remember how he challenged Andre in the AO this year. So many break points, but unable to convert.

Hope he will have a great 2004.

Thats great for Nico. He totally deserves it after all his injuries this year. Hopefully he'll have prepared well and will be ready to come back and do some damage at the AO.

I love it when suddenly some player gets into the draw and rams everybody in his way. Hope that will be Escude this time.

Nicolas, please don't ram Marat.

Thanks for posting the news bunk. Yes, Nico has had more than his fair share of problems and injuries over this past year - I wish him all the best for a successful comeback :) Nice to see him back on the circuit.

Good call BE about Henman, though I would rather it was Roddick or Hewitt.

The Australian Open holds a reciprocal wildcard agreement with the French Open and the two national federations.

Nico is so talentuous, I hope he won't have injuries this year. I'd like to see him playing a full year without problems, I'm sure he is able to go far in Wimby !!

Arthurs gets Aussie Open nod

Wayne Arthurs has been given a wildcard for the 2004 Australian Open.

Arthurs, who has also been given a wildcard for the adidas International event in Sydney, will be joined in the main draw for the Melbourne event by Chris Guccione.

In the women's draw, wildcards have been awarded to Evie Dominikovic and Casey Dellacqua.

Arthurs was a member of Australia's Davis Cup-winning team, recording doubles victories partnering Todd Woodbridge in three of the four rounds including the final.

Guccione, from Victoria, is regarded as one of Australia's brightest prospects, while Dominikovic has had an injury-hit year and has slipped to 131 in the world rankings.

Dellacqua won both the singles and doubles at the Uncle Tobys International Challenger event in Queensland this year.

Four more main draw wildcards are still to be allocated, two men's and two women's.

Draper out of Open

Scott Draper has been forced out of next month’s Australian Open with a serious leg injury.

Draper suffered a bruised femur in October which will keep him out for up to three more months.

That will also mean Draper misses the February Davis Cup tie against Sweden in Adelaide in February.

"I'm out for about three months at least," Draper told AAP. "It's a slow process and I've just got to get off it. I'm not allowed to run.”

"It's a real pain in the butt."

Draper had begun to regain top form this year after a break from the sport, making the final eight in Indianapolis, Tokyo and Shanghai

"I got myself in a position to give myself a good launching pad to next year," he said.

"I played well and did all the things I set out to do this year and I just can't keep the roll going which is disappointing."

I think Scott Draper is quite a good player if he's on top form.. Hope he'll have a speedy recovery .. :)
