A Chat Thread for All the Fab Fans

I thought I would start a chat thread to try to get a little
more posting done in the Forum. I know Fab isn't playing right now, but I do remember what was said at the time the Forum was started. And that was if the Forum sat around like a ghost town it would be closed. I made a post on 4/2 and it is now 4/6. So time is starting to go by without anyone posting anything. This isn't good. So I hope people will use this thread to chat about whatever they want to and help keep the Forum active ;)

Hope everybody around is fine.

Glad you like the idea Choupi ;) It is hard to keep a Forum active when that player isn't playing I think. Also this Forum is so big I find it hard to get to all the places I want to go  I have been a member since September of last year and a couple of days ago I found a place on the Forum that I hadn't even known was there

Well, don't worry, I don't misunderstand you Mae. It's true that the forum is desert when Fab isn't playing. Maybe we should try to draw some others around. I also wish that it stays open.

Anyway, it's finally weekend time. And today, waking up has been a true pleasure, seeing that beautiful sun outside. :)

I'm sure I haven't discovered everything this site has to offer...but I did see where you translated the huge article from the April 2006 Tennis magazine. VERY COOL! 14 pages of Fabrice! That's excellent. Were there very many photos included???

Thank you for the welcome Mae! I was really excited to find a spot where I could chat with other fans of Fabrice!

I like the way you think Mae! Tommy Haas sitting next to you....hmmmm....I've been trying to add an Avatar of my own...but every time I try to add the photo it tells me my picture is too large...it's just a jpg. file....any ideas of how I can make it small enough to add? Did you have that problem when you added your Avatar?

Hi eveybody! :wavey:

Chat thread is a great idea Mae, one sure way to keep this forum alive.

Fabrice Fan, try to make your pictures smaller in one of the picture editors, Paint for example. It has to be no more than a 140 by 140 pixels to upload as an avatar. Talking about avatars, i really need to think about one! But i didn't find a picture of a tennis player that i would want to put there and that other people didn't use already so... maybe i'll take Choupi's example and put there somethig completely unrelated to tennis.

Thanks for the heads up about the pictures Choupi. I looked at the picture thread....I guess I just didn't realize that any of those photos were from the April 2006 issue of Tennis magazine! ha ha I could look at photos of Fabrice all day long!!!! I love the one you took where he is standing in the wings off court....and also the one where it looks like he is signing autographs! Did you get his autograph while you were there???

I had to fly there... and get a hotel... and rent a car....yuck on all that....but it was well worth it!!!! Morning everyone. The throat has stopped bothering, so for the 1st time since Saturday, I've slept like a baby!! :p Now, it's the nose that is pissing me off...Damn weather!! :(

What have I talked with Fabrice about? Well, let's say we have something in common, other than the fact he's a player I do appreciate a lot. We almost share the same birthday date. Only a few hours seperate us. So we talked about that. And other things....

Concerning tournaments I can attend, I have started tripping last year. Was at the DC 1st Round, to RG (1 day), to Stuttgart (2 days) and to Metz (2 days). This year is approximately the same, without DC. Oh, I'm gonna spend 4 days in Stuttgart. :)

Unfortunately I will probably never get to see him in person again if he doesn't play in 2007, but you can still look forward to seeing him this year!!!!!! :D I'll look forward to hearing about your trips...and I hope you get lots of great pictures!

I'm so glad you are here. You add a lot to the Forum. There were many posters that said they wanted Fab to have a Forum, but apparently not many wanted to post in it :( I think when anyone makes a Forum request for a player so many people just jump on the bandwagon and say they want the Forum too. But then they aren't around once a Forum is actually started. You were lucky to see Fabrice in person also. I do hope he will play a while longer at least. Now that he has a Forum finally I would hate for him to retire soon.

Mae, I don't suffer any allergy, well, I don't know about them if that's the case. That's just the usual process of how things evolve when I have a cold. First, the throat, then the nose, and it ends in coughing a lot. No need to tell that this upcoming long weekend, I look forward to it. We have public holiday tomorrow and Monday. :yeah:

I agree Mae, it seems like it has been forever since Fabrice has played...I also want his winning to draw more fans to his Forum...but most of all, I want him to continue playing so well that he can't bring himself to retire after this year!!!:) I can't help it. I had so much fun at IW this past March that I really want to go again in 2007! Leave it to me to go to my first tournament when Fabrice is 33 years old. Of course that is young in life, but it is considered old if you are an athlete. :(

Well I have no Tournaments near me so I'll never see him play in person  But I hope he doesn't retire next year because we finally got him a Forum and if he retires next year I don't know what will become of the Forum  And yes 33 is getting up there for an athlete, but maybe even if Fab stopped playing singles he could still continue playing Doubles  I don't think age is as much a factor in Doubles as it is in Singles

Fabrice Fan
04-17-2006, 08:32 PM
Well, Martina N. still does great at doubles doesn't she?! WOW! If Fab chose to give up singles, and just play doubles, that would be fine also...as long as he was at IW next March! :D I guess I'm concerned about his retiring because, I do believe the article that Choupi so kindly translated, said his wife was always asking him when he was going to retire. I can understand her point....they have enough money, and they have their daughter...and she can't attend every tournament with him...so I'm sure she would rather have him at home instead of travelling all the time....but perhaps she'll let him play one more year at least....

16681
04-18-2006, 05:03 AM
Yes I have to admit that I can see his wife's point of view also. I mean it must be hard having a husband who is gone so much of the time. And now they have a daughter who is growing up and I'm sure both his wife and Fabrice want him to have time with their daughter. But as a Fan it is hard to have a player retire  (BTW you don't have to give a reason when you edit a post, if you don't want to. When I started here and saw reason for edit I thought you had to put a reason in so I did. But then I noticed no one else did  So it is just up to you if you want the reason in there for the edit or not. I hope you don't mind me telling you this. I know this place can be hard to get use to--at least it was for me. So I try to help other people, if I can.)

Hello everyone. I personally don't see Fabrice retire next year. Yes, Chris Laure wants him to stop. And yes, he's growing older every year. But he's still got the fire in him. As long as the passion of tennis will burn in him and as long as his body will allow him to play pretty good, he won't stop. Maybe he'll reduce the number of the events he will take part but I don't think he will say goodbye at the end of this year. :)

Choupi, I hope you have some insight on this...but I will just semi-answer Mae's question with what I've seen and heard...Every time I have heard Fabrice mention Chris Laure, he calls her his wife....but any time I have heard anyone else speak of her, i.e. someone announcing one of Fabrice's matches....they call her his fiance...and in the Official ATP Media Guide they say she is his fiance....I know they have been a couple for many years, perhaps it's like common law marriage in the U.S.? Please let us know if you have a definate answer Choupi.

Well, I think they're married. Because here, every time they're spoken about, they talk about wife/husband. But I have no more infos actually. Does it matter, really? They've been together for quite a long time now. :) And I like their daughter, Djenae. She sometimes attends matches with her mother. She's too cool and cheeky, like her father!! ;)

Nope Choupi, It certainly doesn't matter to me whether they're married or not! It has absolutely nothing to do with me! I just think Fabrice is great, and I think it's interesting to know information about him. I know that their daughter, Djenae is a very pretty little girl....but then again Chris Laure is quite beautiful, and I think Fabrice is very good looking too....so it would only stand to reason they would have a lovely daughter. :)

I agree Choupi with what you and Fabrice Fan have been saying. I meant no harm in questioning whether she was his wife or not. As you said it doesn't really matter other than the fact there seems to be some confusion about the subject. I hope I haven't upset anyone with my question. If so I'm sorry.

I understand the tie between a person and a pet. I'm known to be a cat lover myself. I've grown up among cats. Actually, I can't remember a time when I had no cats around me. That beautiful white lady in my avatar is called Pinky and has been sharing my life for more than 10 years now. She's currently asleep on my bed!!

We have a little sweety named Gentell now...we named her that because she is so gentle...kind of a play on words. Our kitties sleep in the bed too, so I can totally relate to that!

I admit to being a pet lover also ;) But I have to say I'm a dog fan when it comes to owning pets. I think cats are very beautiful animals and I love to look at them, but I have never owned one. Of course, here in the U.S. there is a saying that "you can own a dog, but a cat owns you"

I agree. With Carla certainly having no pb with any men, as well as with the upbringing of pets when you have them very young. I had Pinky when she was 6 weeks old. It was a bit too young actually, because it was too early. Her mother didn't have time to teach her everything she should have. I've tried to fill in the gap. Some things worked, others didn't.

Well, it's first relax. Then, it is spring here. And, as I am a garden lover, there are a lot of things to be done outside, for the flowers, the fruits and vegetables. So I'd say, depending on the weather, it's gonna be 50/50 relax and hard work. :)

I don't know where the other people are that wanted Fab to have a Forum, because that was before I discovered this site, but it would be cool if they came back around. :) It's probably like Choupi said...they are only interested in chatting about tournament results, which is totally great! :) I admit that I just like to chat...it doesn't only have to be about tournament results...but obviously everybody has their own likes and dislikes...so I guess it's just a matter of hopefully meeting other people who share the same feelings. I just like making new friends to chat with. :) It's not even like I have a ton of time to spend on the computer writing messages, as you know... But it doesn't take that much time for me to write a post or e-mail...I just think it's fun....but I totally understand that other folks aren't interested in doing it...or don't even have a few minutes to do it...I think it's fine either way...it's just a matter of personal opinion...but the folks who have disappeared probably just don't like to chat. I'm glad you and Choupi are still around though! :D

Well, you're right. It is hard work indeed. But it's like many other things. As long as you have a passion for it, and if you really appreciate the result of that hard work, you just do it. Ok, sometimes, you may see me complain because my back aches after I dig for too long. As for the birds, outside, I like them too and it seems they like the place. Actually, I have several nests in the backyard, so that's sort of a good shelter for them. Interesting we have a bird called a Robin where I live, but it looks nothing like the one in your picture  And yes it is so interesting to think of birds in other countries that we don't have. Mae, there are several species among robins that it is not surprising that yours doesn't look like mine. :)

You wanna share the laugh I just had? Well, I was going through the pages here, on MTF, and Pinky is sitting next to the keyboard. When I reached that page here, with the birds on it, she suddenly reacted. She started staring at the birds, pretty puzzled at first. And she came closer, and tied to touch them. Of course, they didn't move!! I think that is what got her leave the place!! :p

 :rolls: I bet Pinky thought the birds were real, but then when they didn't move that upset her so she left. I would have loved to have seen that. I didn't know there were different "Robins". You can learn a lot of things here on the MTF that have nothing to do with tennis :)

I suppose Pinky has been upset they didn't move, that's why she decided to quit wasting her time!! :p She's so busy during the day (sleeping  ) that she has to make tough choices concerning her activities!!!
I thought of Pinky today. I saw my first Butterfly today. I love Butterflies ;) And I was wondering if Pinky liked them.
It was a lovely Butterfly yellow and black ;)

I love butterflies too Mae! :) I actually purchased a plant last year called a Butterfly Bush. It gets beautiful purple flowers on it....it did attract a lot of butterflies to our yard...it was fun to see all the different kinds come around! :)

Yes I think it is very nice that we can chat while waiting on Fab to play again :) And I think Fab would like the fact that he has such good fans that like to chat with each other  Fab has such a great personality himself. He comes across so well both on and off the court

I bet you're right Mae! :) I could just see Fab in here chatting it up with us...now THAT would be totally cool!

I just feel like discussing him, even though he isn't playing right now....but I ask myself....would you and Choupi ( or any other fans for that matter) even care what I had to say?! I don't mean that in a bad way either....I guess it's kind of like Truc saying the photos of Fab from Monte-Carlo weren't exciting....I wonder, would my conversation be boring to you??? Well....the only thing I have to go by is how I myself would feel....and I'm totally and completely interested in any photos and/or conversation...so hopefully everyone else is too!

What was going through my mind is the first day we were at IW...the first time I saw Fab there he was playing soccer....It was soooo cool to be able to see that! :) He's really good...as a matter of fact, I heard an interview of him saying that up until about 11 or 12 years old he played both tennis and soccer...but he had to pick one or the other, and he picked tennis...obviously... his dad was a soccer goalie too I guess... Anyway...that's just one little story from my vacation that I thought would be cool to share.... :)

That is interesting because I believe Nadal also played soccer when he was younger. Of course, they call it football; but since we are Americans we call it soccer. I don't know who gave the sport that we Americans know as "football" it's name, but I wish they would have picked something else to call it. It doesn't make any sense there was already a sport named that and the two sports are nothing alike

Fabrice Fan
05-03-2006, 05:48 AM
That is too funny Mae...because you're right... they DO call it football instead of soccer...to be honest I had totally forgotten that fact...because the interview I saw with Fab he was speaking English, and he himself actually called it soccer! I'm sure he only called it soccer because it was an interview given in English though! :)

Hello girls. Sorry, I wasn't around for some time.

Butterflies, well, I like them but I can't say for Pinky as she never gets outside and thus, hardly ever saw one very close.

As for chatting, I think that it's great to be able to share views, ideas and other stuff, whether we support the same player or not. See, it happens that I go and post in non tennis, discussing stuff with posters that absolutely don't support the same player as me. I even had the opportunity to meet some, when I was at tennis events, and it was all fun and ok, even if we weren't rooting for the same guy. Maybe the next one of us who happens to meet Fabrice should let him know about us here!! ;)

So Pinky is an indoor cat. I think that is the safest for an animal. But here in the U.S. most people seem to think that cats have to be out running all over the place  My dog hates them! I use to go to Non-Tennis a lot, but then I found out you don't earn vCash in Non-Tennis so I rarely go there now. I like to vBet so I like to earn my vCash. But I love coming here just to chat because there are nice people here. We don't have a lot of people, but the ones we do have are nice. So I would rather have less people and have them nice than have a lot of people that aren't all nice. Does that make sense?

Fabrice Fan

My cats have ALWAYS been indoor too. It's most definately the healthiest choice for them, and the safest. I agree though Mae, A LOT of people let their cats run the neighborhood...and it irritates me...because they all seem to find MY yard. This means going after the birds I'm feeding, and using my flowerbeds as a litterbox....not cool.

Choupi...I don't know if you were teasing or not...but you actually had an absolutely excellent idea! :) Allow me to tell you gals a story....

I like a newscaster by the name of Dan Abrams. He has an hour long show on during the week called The Abrams Report. He is also a lawyer, so he basically covers legal issues on his show, and a lot of criminal cases...He has a lot of fans, and a group dedicated to chatting about him was formed. He is based in New York, but he travels all around the country to cover different trials. Well, he was going to California to cover a case, and it just so happened that 3 of the gals who are fans decided to go try to meet him! He was set up to broadcast outside the courthouse, so he was easy for them to find. Well, they did get to meet him, and they told him about the chat group dedicated to him, and I was watching his program on TV and actually heard him mention his chat group on the air! It was pretty cool!

This obviously proves to me that sometimes mentioning chat groups to the person they are designed for works! I'm not saying Dan himself actually posted there...although perhaps he made up a user name so no one would know it was him!, but he obviously checked out the site at any rate. :) The same may go for Fab...perhaps he wouldn't actually post here, but if he knew about our existence, and actually just checked out the site, it would be neat! :)

The only chance I would ever get to mention it to Fab is if he plays IW next year, and I am able to go again....(keeping my fingers crossed that this will happen)...but you still have a chance of seeing him this year Choupi! :) If it is something you would feel comfortable doing, and you got the opportunity, it would be really neat if you told Fab about us! :D

It would be interesting to hear what he has to say about us....and it would be so exciting if he popped in long enough to just say "hi" one time! :) That is probably hoping for too much though!

Then if Fab is still playing, and I do get to go to IW next year....Maybe I would get the chance to tell him I was one of the fans on his Forum that Choupi had told him about!

By the way... I saw a tape yesterday of Fab's match against David Ferrer at the AO...and the announcers were saying that they hoped Fab would keep playing for awhile, as they enjoyed watching him too...and then one of them added that Fab had said he planned on playing 2 or 3 more years! :D Now if this is accurate, and Fab really said that...how cool is that?! Of course injury, or countless other reasons..such as family, etc. could change all that...but if everything worked out and we got Fab for another 2 or 3 years that would be wonderful! :)

Well girls, Fab plays today his double match with Richard, so I didn't get to see him at all yesterday. But I saw 4 matches. Benneteau/Mahut vs Friedl/Mertinak, Grosjean vs Mayer, Safin vs Youzhny and Garcia-Lopez vs Gicquel. I've had a great time. The matches were great, on the whole, even if I would have wished, like many other viewers, that this shock between Safin and Misha lasted longer that what it lasted. Misha was totally paralyzed. He played his game only during the first 6 games of the 2nd set. And, as Marat was focused and played his game from the very 1st point til the very last one, you can understand why the match went so quick. I was sad for Misha. Even part of the spectators were encouraging him, though they mainly came to see the big star Marat.

I came back home at 1am. I feel  as I hardly slept at all. I have a cold that bothered me all night long. Anyway, I'll survive. Hope Fab & Richie win so that I can see them on the weekend. :)

Good girl. You deserve to have day off sometimes, you know that!! :D Good luck for the rest of it all.
As for me, well, I'm ok. My work has become pretty hectic so I end up weeks on my knees, but I'll survive. ;) Looking forward to my Christmas break in
4 weeks now.

Awww  It´s the end of the year, everyone is a little crazy in this season. My mother´s a biochemist and she is always mad the last days of December because everyone want to have their medical exams done before New Year  I mean, what´s the difference?? During New Year and Christmas season the end-of-the-world feeling is stronger here because it´s at the same time of summer break

I suppose those ppl are all in a hurry to get their medical exams because, after Christmas celebrations -and all that tasty food!!- they might not be that great. Anyway, I agree. I don't see what the difference would be. But such is life.

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone is doing okay. We actually have snow on the ground where I live, that doesn't happen very often! My son is loving it. :)

I haven't been able to access my Blog for days...is anyone else having that problem?

Hi!! :wavey: I loved snow when I was a kid too , but I think that snowed only one time in my hometown. It can be very cold, but no snow. Fortunately, we were close (well, maybe not so close according to European standards ) to the Andes and we went there in winter breaks.

BTW, I don´t have blog, but it seems everyone with blog is having problem to access them. ;) http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=87056&page=9
Steve (the webmaster) is supposed to be solving it. :)

Hi girls!! :wavey: We also have snow here in winter, and pretty regularly. though the amount seems to drop with years passing by. I loved it when I was a kid. And I still like it a lot, but when I don't have to drive on it and when I don't have to shovel everyday!! ;)

It's been days now that the blogs aren't working. I hope Steve can solve the pb. I miss mine and I miss reading others's.

Greetings girls!

Well, the snow is gone now, but my son sure enjoyed it while it was here! :) Thanks for telling me about the blogs lau. I was wondering if it was just a glitch with MY computer. I don't really write in it very often, but it's fun, and it's nice to have access to it when I get an opportunity to make an entry...I guess I'll just keep checking on it periodically.

I wonder how Fab is spending his time off? I hope he's having fun wherever he is! ;)

Take care everyone! :)

I agree, I miss mine too, and it's funny really...because I don't make entries very often...but I want it to be available when I can make one! I guess it's one of those things where you don't know how much you like it until it's gone....

Hi everyone! :wavey:

It's getting close to that time again...I mean the Pacific Life Open. I am hoping to be able to attend again this year! I'm getting really excited! The entry list hasn't been released yet....it probably will be known shortly, but in the meantime....have any of you happened to have heard whether Fab is playing there this year?

Hi again everyone. :wavey: Hope everything is going well for all of you. I see that the blogs aren't working again. Why is it that they are working when I don't have the chance to make an entry....but they go down when I get the opportunity?? Take care everyone! :)

Choupi
01-27-2007, 09:05 AM
:wavey: It's cyclical about the blogs. They regularly go down and come back to normal again. I suppose it's a pb of server being down. But I'm not sure.
Glad for you to be able to go to the Pacific Life Open again. Hope you get to see Fab. I don't see any reason for him not taking part, unless being injured. So, I hope you see him. :)

Hi everyone! :wavey:

It's not like I have anything super important to say, but geez, it seems like the blogs haven't been working in a really loooong time. I know what will happen...they will finally be working again, and I won't get the chance to make an entry!

Well, I am going to the Pacific Life Open for sure...the plans have been made...I hope Fab will be there, but it will be fun anyway! :)

 I never read the MTF blogs...
I think the only time I read one was when Adam announced his retirement from MTF for some time
I´m curious about what people blog about though  I might do it..., I just think I already spend too much time in front of the screen... :o

I haven´t been around here for some time... How´s everybody doing? :)

EDIT: BTW, congrats to the French fans, you in the 2nd round of DC. Funny how all the ties were 2-1 yesterday...

I know it's not very interesting, but I just wanted to say that you can sometimes see Fab during Amélie's matches in Dubai this week. He was there during her match against Hantuchova.
He often attends the matches of the other Frenchies, they often show him during Richie's matches too, for example - and it's not so common a male player watches women tennis (except when his gf is involved, of course)!

Hey there!

I am back! Had bad months but now everything is okay. Do you remember me? :wavey:

@ Choupi: You are going to Stuttgart? I read it in the Stuttgart Thread. Iīm not sure becaue I have no entry list yet but maybe we could meet up there? You are from France, right?!
Thinking about going to RG next week but I couldnīt find a cheap hostel or hotel with space for me. :crying2: HELP!

xx Manja

Hey Manja!! Yes, I'm going to Stuttgart this year again. So would be great to meet up there. Have you ever been there before? And yes, I'm from France. Not far from Strasbourg, if you know it.

I will also be there at RG, but only on next Wednesday. As for the cheap hotels, I'm afraid it's gonna get hard to find one. At least close to the Stadium. Maybe this link might help you. It's all the hotels in Paris from the Accor Group, which are known to be the least expensive. You have the plan of the City. I'd advise you to search south, as RG is situated in the West (16th district). You can also visualize the metro stations. Good luck!! :)

Thank you so much Choupi!
Yes, I have been to Stuttgart twice but itīs 9 hours to drive and Fabrice usually has holidays in this time but this year I will come because Goran will be there on sunday. Itīs not 100%. Maybe I will stay a little longer... waiting for the entries...

I was looking for Etap hotels because there is one at the Boulogne but I canīt find the homepage just Etap and the numbers. The hostels in the city of Paris are full but I will try your link. Iīm used to the metro in Paris. It has names and numbers. But if you donīt know the name you are lost. I looove Paris! ;)

9 hour drive!! That's a long way to go......I'm happy with my 3 hours train!! ;)

Ok, this is the list of Etap Hotels from Paris. As I told you, try to search around the City, at the various Portes, because I doubt you find some place in those near RG.

For instance, my friends & I will stay at the Porte d'Orléans. :) Only the Tuesday night.
