Nominations are needed for the best drop shot poll.

Andy's forehand drop shot it actually quite good and he disguises it extremely well. he just doesn't use it often. But I haven't seen enough of these other guys's drop shots enough to be able to vote on this poll

Albert Portas is supposedly the king of "drop shots", but Guillermo Coria has the best drop shot IMO.
I agree with Rosie.

That's why I voted other.

I know Marat will never win this poll since his terrible dropshot has given him the nickname OAF ;)

from this list Carlos Moya

The best dropshot has Guillermo Coria!

This poll would have to redone is somehow Safin wins the best drop shot poll. He doesn't have the worst one though, might have to run a poll on that one later.

The terrible thing about dropshots is that a lot of players play them on important moments and that can indeed be quite frustrating.

Shadow
12-25-2003, 05:01 PM
true. To play the drop shot in the right moment is very important, too.

And i think that was Marat`s fault then ;) He did learn about it now.

Wow, you're now 3 for 3 on dissing Andy when it's totally irrelevant. Good job, that could be a new MTF record. Have you ever seen him do a dropshot? His forehand one quite good. Not the best or not even close, and it was already made clear by the post's creator that he was put here as a joke, but yes if you paid attention to anything Andy does with an open mind (which you've already made PAINFULLY clear that you don't), you would see that he has an effective forehand dropshot when he uses it (which isn't often) and it's disguised quite well. if I could rip DVDs on my computer I'd even take the time and energy to make a video file of a few good ones to show you just to shut you up.

Back to the topic..... wow aren't Coria's dropshots great? :)

The old Andy still comes out when he Loses ;) I like Andre as well!!! Very classy guy!! But when it boils down to it ill give a player my respect when they beat Andy!! I want to nominate Karol Beck. His match against Roddick in Davis Cup was by far the best dropshot performance I have seen. At one point I remember the stats was like he won 11 out of 12 drop shots tried, and 9 or 10 of which were dead winners. It seemed it was his only lethal weapon against Roddick though.

lol that match was nuts, I just kept laughing every time Beck hit one..... however it was effective because Andy has started staying SO far back and he did it especially so in that match. I wouldn't say that Beck has a particularly wonderful drop shot, though, it's just easy to use it against Andy when he stays far back.

I did not, however, say that Andy cant do it.(drop shot). It just well in most of his matches he doesnt mix it up. And its not like its JUST his attitude i dont like. I liked McEnroe becuase not only did i find it amusing every time he would argue with the umpire ect., calling them countless things, he had a very beautiful game. he was a joy to watch, even if he was picking his opponent apart. And thats how I Feel with Federer. I dont care if he's dominating his opponent, its the fact that he's a joy to watch. If i could list all of my fav. players you'd notice that most of them have something in common! I'll appreciate him more win he changes hit attitude a bit, improves his game, & maybe wheres something other than that hideous white outfit with blue stripes he's been wearing for monthes! Besides its not as fun if you cant root against someone, which i know everyone here has done before. And i do think it may be good for the game to have loud, raquet smashing, arguing guys like him & Hewitt!

you derive joy when someone loses? wow.... that is just really pitiful.
It's really no more pitiful than it is to root heavily for a player, commit yourself to working on a fan site for them, to tape their matches, post on messageboards about them, and so on and so forth.

Either way you are wasting energy on people who don't know or care who you are, all in the name of sport.

You can argue that one is using positive energy and the other negative, but seeing as rooting against somebody you don't know (who doesn't know or care about you) is pretty harmless, I don't think that theory holds much water.

I'm not sure about the best, but surely the most frequent male practitioner of "the dropper!!!" is Stepanek. Did anyone see that farcical point against Nadal in the DC rubber that led to him dropping his serve early on? He does an okayish dropshot that lures Nadal in, plays a deep shot and has him on the defensive, then goes crazy and tries a second, incredibly dumb drop that puts him in all sorts of trouble, but he manages to hoist a lob right over Nadal's head into the opposite corner to gain a short mid-court forehand, which he then floats into the alley with the entire court wide open. Genius.

Albert Portas-The Dropshot Dragon? Just kidding, he isn't anywhere near the level he used to be.

I pick Coria because of how he worked Agassi in RG with it. He brought Agassi to the net and then passed him or lobbed him, exposing AA's weakness and using the dropshot to set up the next shot, not as an outright winner.

Where's JUANQUI? *checks 'Other'*
He can do some kick-ass drop shots when he's into the match, no? Okay it has let him down on several occasions as well.. but I still think he does wonderful drop shots... The guy's got so much class :)

JCF has nice disguise on his drop shot.

I think Coria's drop shot is more effective.

Santoro used to have a great drop shot and he used them unexpectedly and devastatingly, but ..... his game is a bit off on all accounts lately.

I voted Moya but clearly there are some important names missing.

Santoro's game isn't really that off; he just won the Aussie Open Doubles Championship (and made the doubles finals of the season's ending Masters) ....no, it's not singles, but neither that it something to sneeze at! :)

Dolgopolov has a pretty good dropshot.
Starace play it well too.
