Interisting WTAworld Federer talk

hey guys...someone said that pete could beat Rogi now..and them I started to quote
can sound stupid, but I just thought that u would like to know and I also wanna hear ur opnions ;)

anyway, here goes:

heck I wouldn't call Pete's fate a "suffering" 3 slams/year for how many years? Dang... if Maria becomes like Pete I'll be ecstatic... Best net game, best 2nd serve in the business, and the notorious "Slam Dunk!" :D I miss Pete, he'd blow Fed/Nadal/ whoever away in his day
no he wouldnt
it's more than a fact that Federer has a more complete game than Pete's
and Bruguera that faced Pete 5 times and won 3, said that Fed has a better forehand, much better backhand, almost the same volley and feel better the game, the only thing that Pete had better was his server...

Agssi said the same, that Fed was better
So...... I stay with those
and nadal would work like a Hewitt for Pete....

and more:

Somehow I feel that a complete game doesn't necessary win against an incomplete one... I still feel that in Pete's day, a break of serve = a set... men couldn't break each other at all, and look at Fed, who gets broken often enough... Pete also has more power than Fed, better net game, better reach, although lacking in the brilliancy of groundstrokes, but nigh-impossible to pass at the net off clay... anyway time will tell... Fed's been beaten plenty times before, but Pete was extremely invincible off clay (except for that match against Krajicek, the only time he slipped)
jeez....fed lost 3 times last year
6 in 2004

he's the guy with the biggest victory percentual ever
so..I guess we can say that he's kinda invencible
More power?? Dont think so

besides...usualy WTA was boring..with no one to get closer of the #1
but we all know that Federer is impossible to beat now
for bet Federer he has to be in a bad day
and..as we saw today.... even playing SHIT he manages to WON
Fed is damn good on clay
Movs incridble
Play easy
and is just u take a good look... Pete at the Fed age has reach 10 finals and won 7 titles is MS
Fed = 12 finals and 10 titles
Fed has 2 MC

and NO PLAYER has a good H2h against him
besides ..he beat Pete in grass Im right??
just a detail....

Fed has everything...and er cant forgett that NO PLAYER AT HIS BEST CAN BEAT FEDERER AT HIS ;)
so yeah..Fed will break Pete records also...
the only thing that can stop Fed is a contusion, but once he plays so easy is ard to he gets one
so...that means that tennis will probably be boring for long years
not for me of course

That poster posts on this board too but never makes those assertions.

Pay no mind to what posters on WTA world say. There's some posters over there who I think would defend Venus and Serena if they were caught committing a crime on tape.

what is all this crap about pete having more power than federer.

Pete rarely served into the 130's. Federer hovers around 125-130.

as far as im concerned pete wouldnt be as successful in this generation with the courts being slow. just ask henman

this is actually a very interesting point.

Federer of 2003-2004 served more aces per match than post ausopen federer 2005-2006.

federer doesnt seem to go for the outright ace on the first serve as frequently as before.

In fact only on big pts does rog go for it.

his second serve has improved tremendously. Federer's kick serve is amazing. Federer has a much better kick serve than sampras. Sampras had a precision 2nd serve that he would slice away.

The big difference between federer and sampras on the serve, is that sampras went for the ace more consistently than federer on the first bomb. Sampras also had a much flatter serve than federer. Federer has great action though.

Right now, i would say sampras has a better 1st delivery but they have an equal second delivery.

in 2004 though, federer had a phenomenal 1st serve.

anybody remember the match against nalby in ausopen.

Down 15-40 he throws down 4 straight aces to win the game(5-5 in 1st set). Ivanisevic like.

against roddick in toronto. 0-40 down(4-4 1st set, throws down three straight aces to get himself out of trouble.

i dont know what happen to the first serve of roger federer. After he took the long break after wimby in 2005, his 1st serve has not been upto the same standard.

his second serve is dramatically improved though.

I noticed this as well. His 1st serve is just not the same. In fact, Cliff commented on it last year. He said that Roger now arches his back a lot more on the 1st serve to introduce more spin into the serve and less velocity. I think, this is a deliberate move on Roger's part. I am not sure why though.

They might serve faster, but not nearly as well :)

The sound of his booming serve during the last match of his career still echoes in my head

It was the most effective serve the game has seen, a beautiful action and impossible to read, and surely - won Pete more than any shot has won for any player, and I mean it - IT won matches.

It also made for rather dull matches often ;)

No offense, but what the hell are you talking about...?
I still have the sight of Pete's 2nd serves flying over Agassi's bald head for aces...
Sure, Agassi is very aceable (Roger hit 20 aces against him I think during that straight set match at Oz last year), but nearly every other 2nd serve was ace...
Sampras had so much confidence in his serve he would often hit the 2nd just as hard as the 1st, and while it was most of the time in the 125-130mph zone, Roger isn't anywhere near it nowadays.

Surely this is an area where Roger isn't anywhere near Pete.

If the change in his serve is because of the way he arches/or doesn't arch his back, might it not be becuase he has suffered from back problems?

I've noticed, too, that the speed on Fed's serve has decreased and it's not as reliable as before. I also agree with Cliff who mentioned in one of his matches over the past two tournaments that Fed only seems to go for the big serves when he is down in his service games. Butoverall he didn't serve too badly in Miami and especially in the Final. He held his seve well and when he lost it he was able to break back, so his serve waseffective enough to stay even and to win the tie-breaks which was when it mattered.

As for the actual topic of this thread, no comment.

You answered your own question. They have different second serves. Pete had a precise second serve, which he could put into the corners and nearly always served great against agassi. Agassi's return was not effective against pete. I didnt see pete serve like that (2nd serves consistently as aces) against any other player, why? Because andre is a very overrated returner.

Federer has a great second serve and when he wants to juice it up, its just as good as sampras. His kick serve is way better than sampras and for that reason his serve is much more effective on clay.

Sampras second serve seemed bigger, because he went for it more often. He he had to. he doesnt back it up as well as federer.

Sampras may be more mentally tough than federer and thats why you may think his second serve was better, but this is a different point.
