There were discussions about it in a couple of various threads and I didn't even remember where it was that this was being discussed so I just started a new thread lmfao

the question was whether the Olympics rankings points were an additional mandatory event (like GS and TMS) or one of the "best 5 countable"

Well I did a little digging and remembered that the CR went into effect in 2000 so Yevgeny's Olympic win would be in his results so I went to the cracker-jack ATP site and looked up his 2000 points breakdown and sure enough it's one of the "best of other countable" tournaments... so it's NOT mandatory... unless they've changed something for 2004 (which I haven't seen anything about it)
if you want to check it out for yourself lol

So.... this might entice more people to play and it would mean that Andy shouldn't have a problem with his Legg Mason points.

Hey, I live in Utah. I've been innundated with news stories about the corruption in the IOC for about 3 years now. I'm disgusted.

Some Olympic news....

USTA call Cup duo

The United States Tennis Association announced on Thursday that Patrick McEnroe, the Davis Cup captain, and Fed Cup captain Zina Garrison would coach the Olympic tennis team for the Athens Games this summer.

McEnroe's elder brother, John, turned down the Olympic job offer in 2000 and was replaced by former world number one Stan Smith.

The Sydney men's team failed to win a medal in the singles and doubles competitions.

Without the services of Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, the American's sent a 'B' team of Micahel Chang, Todd Martin, Vince Spadea and Jeff Tarango that won one match in the singles tournament.

This August, McEnroe and Garrison should have a far stronger side to pick from.

Former world number one Andy Roddick and top-ranked double pairing Bob and Mike Bryan are expected to play.

On the women's side, the Garrison has much to manage, with Venus Williams winning the singles gold medal and partnering younger sister Serena, for the doubles crown.

Monica Seles secured the bronze singles medal.
