This is the next Tournament where I saw that Tommy had entered so I thought I would start a thread. I do hope that Tommy will be feeling better ;) And that he won't get such an awful draw :fiery:

Sorry I should have put it in the title of the thread, but I think it will make it too long. If I can't get it in the thread title, I will post it here. I was right it wouldn't fit in the thread title space. There is either not much room for a thread title or I'm doing something wrong  I know I'm doing something wrong because I know I have been in other Forums that have longer thread titles. I just don't know how to get more space  Anyway the Tournament is from April 10-16, 2006. So Tommy should have more time to get well ;)

but thanks for putting it here! so we have to wait for a long long time now
At least he must feel absolutely great then! :D

I don't know why you can't put a longer thread title in here.. i don't know if i can do it, but this one is ok!! :yeah:

I'm going to have to check, but Federer usually doesn't play the Clay Court Championship here in the U.S. That is one of the reasons Andy has won the Tournament so much.
I once said it should be called The Andy Roddick's U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship  Not only is "The Fed" not usually there, but Houston where the Tournament is located is not very far from where Andy lives in Austin.

16681
03-29-2006, 04:05 PM
Just as I thought no Federer in Houston :yippee: Now Tommy get well and get your match form back up to where it was. It is time to start winning again ;)

Now we just need a few things for Tommy to be rested and well. Also for him to get back to the top tennis form he had earlier in the year and a good draw ;) Any draw would have to be better than the one in Miami :fiery: Wouldn't it

times so you can't count him out there.

Have to be careful for good claycourt players that are strong at that time. Tommy not so much used already to clay and some claycourt player do nothing else than playing on clay with clay strategy and clay spin. Example: Vicente & Monaco have potential for danger to Tommy.

Would be great when Tommy win this tournament, but bigger tournament would be winning Munich tournament at home. Long time that German player won it, long time ago. Lot of great things to come!

Yes he does. He was really playing great early in the year.
Then he had to drop out before LV started due to his shoulder, came back for IW, but then got sick there with food poisoning and had to withdraw from his Match with Blake. Then went to Miami had a bye for the 1st Round, played a 2nd Round Match and won it, but then came up against Federer while he still hadn't really had time to completely get well from being sick at IW. So, of course, Federer beat him badly. So he hasn't had a very easy time of it lately  I hope he is well now, rested, and ready to play Houston ;)

Yes, he played amazing tennis at the beginning of the year. He just needs more luck with the draws (e.g. not always having to face Federer in the early rounds of a tourney :o ). I really hope that this is going to change in the next few months. It's a pity that he once again struggled with his shoulder  , but I'm sure that he'll bounce back. I think that he has a good shot at winning Houston next week.

Yes but I don't see him as a threat because Tommy beat him here in 04,he would be tired after DC,and I guess his serve isn't such a big weapon on clay, green clay though, but not on grass. Also Ferrer beat him last week,so I think better player Tommy can do that too. :aplot:

16681
04-09-2006, 12:37 AM
No I wouldn't write Andy off in Houston. But it is true both he and James probably will be tired after the Davis Cup Weekend. James played a long Match yesterday and lost.
Andy won in straight Sets. But they both have to play again Sunday. And at least one of them has to win their Match or the U.S. is out of the Davis Cup so the pressure will be on.

I really think Tommy can and will get off to a good start in the Tournament ;) However, I must admit I'm not good at looking at possible upcoming Matches in a Draw. So I don't know who may be facing Tommy on down the road  However, that might be just as well because I have often heard tennis players say you have to take one Match at a time.

bavaria100
04-09-2006, 09:44 PM
I think Tommy should reach at least the semis in this tourney. I know, Andy has a great record in Houston, but Tommy is the better clay court player. They have faces each other three times on clay and Tommy has never lost a set against him. I'm very sure that he can beat him. But at first, Tommy has to win his first 2 matches.

Haas advances in U.S. Men's Clay Court
By MICHAEL A. LUTZ
Associated Press Sports
Updated: 10:25 p.m. ET April 10, 2006

HOUSTON (AP) - Fifth-seeded Tommy Haas started fast and then had to push hard in the second set before beating Oscar Hernandez 6-1, 6-4 Monday night in the first round of the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships.

Third-seeded Robby Ginepri played Albert Monotones in a later first-round match.

Haas, who won the title here in 2004, breezed through the first set in 25 minutes before Hernandez stepped up in the second set. He broke Haas in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead, but the German broke back in the seventh game.

Haas took charge of the match when he went up 5-4 after he had Hernandez down love-40. The Spaniard fought off two break points but lost it at the third break point with a double fault. Haas then served for the match and won it at the second match point when Hernandez's return of serve sailed wide.

Haas, ranked 27th in the world, extended his match record to 21-5 this season. He played Hernandez for the first time.

"I didn't know what to expect from him,'' Haas said. "You could have put 20 players up there and I couldn't have picked him out. I asked a few friends and they said he was a typical clay-court player. I decided to play a little clay-court tennis at times and to get aggressive.''

Haas has won titles this year in Delray Beach, Fla., and Memphis, Tenn.

In other matches Monday, Olivier Marach of Austria defeated Juan Antonio Marin of Costa Rica 6-4, 6-1, and Jurgen Melzer of Austria downed Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic 7-6 (7), 6-0.

Top-seeded Andy Roddick, ranked fourth in the world, has been in the finals of the tournament the last five years, including three titles in that span. Roddick is set to face Paul Capdeville of Chile on Tuesday night.

Alex shouldn't trouble Tommy too much. I haven't seen him play that often, but I think he's a serve and volley player. He has a good serve and good volleys but his groundies are only average. In fact, I'm very surprised that Alex made it into the second round. He isn't a good clay court player.

I love the way you put that "they have two opposite sides".
Here in the U.S. we call them two-faced, but it means exactly the same thing. And there are a number of those people in the MTF :armed: I have never been in a Forum with so many of "Those people" before and nothing is done to them :ras: But to talk about a nicer topic you think Tommy will win and so do I :yeah:

Maybe they need V-cash,or they think I never go to GM or their favourite players forums. I was really disappointed about at some because I was so "stupid" to think they like my faves. But about the others,I've known those famous haters already.Guess who I hate more? Those good actors/actresses. :fiery: They fool lots of real fans, :armed: so you need time to see through them, after that I don't believe what they say anymore.

If Tommy is playing his normal game, I'm sure that he won't have too many difficulties with Alex. Alex will be recovered again from his cramps against Vanek (he posted it on his website), but I don't think we have to worry and he already seemed to lose much energy in his first round.

Well I noticed that Tommy and Andy are going to be playing  Andy has been having a lot of trouble this year and Tommy in this Tournament doesn't quite seem to have the Form that he had in his earlier Tournaments. But Andy normally plays well in Houston. I think he has already won this Tournament 4 times. So my guess will be it will either be a very exciting Match or it will be a complete dud  And since I have recently done very poorly betting--I'm keeping my vCash firmly in my vPocket for this Match. And I'll just say may the best player win ;)

I wouldn't say that Tommy is struggling. He hasn't lost a set all week and we can't expect of him to play 100% all the time. I think that he has a great chance to beat Andy today. We have to remember that 2 years ago, Tommy won Houston and beat Andy in straights in the final (this was only his third tournament after his long injury). Andy was a better player in 2004 and Tommy wasn't nearly as strong as today. I believe in Tommy and I know that he can beat Andy. Good luck Tommy!!!

No Tommy hasn't lost a set all Tournament, but he has had to come from behind in the 2nd Sets on his Matches.
I hate to bet against American players and most of them when I bet they will win they usually lose  So in this Match since I like both players I can be happy for the winner and sad for the loser. He had soo many chances and could have won this in 2 and in the end he got a little bit lucky, but a win is a win. Haas Dominates Roddick on Clay Again

By BETSY BLANEY, Associated Press Writer 11 minutes ago

Fifth-seeded Tommy Haas dominated Andy Roddick on clay again, beating the No. 1 seed a fourth straight time in a quarterfinal match Friday night at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship.

Haas rallied from one set down to win 6-7 (1), 6-4, 6-4 in a matchup that Roddick said could have been the final. It was two years ago.

Roddick had two chances to break Haas in the final game, but he was unable to return Haas' serve and got aced on the second opportunity. Haas closed out the match two points later. He hit a forehand winner that cleaned the line and a forehand by Roddick hit the tape but the ball bounced back on his side.

Haas will play American Mardy Fish in one semifinal Saturday.

Seventh-seeded Paul Goldstein of the United States plays Austria's Jurgen Melzer in the other semifinal.

Haas, from Germany, beat Roddick twice on clay in 2002 in Monte Carlo and Rome, and again in 2004 in the finals here.

Roddick led 4-3 in the second set and had two chances on Haas' serve in the eighth game — the longest of the match — to set up himself to serve for the match. But Haas stiffened to win the game and then won eight straight points to close out the set, 6-4.

Haas needed just five points to break Roddick in his second service game of the third set to go up 2-1. But Roddick broke right back to level it.

In the seventh game Haas needed just one break chance to go up 4-3 and he did it in flashy fashion. Haas barely returned the serve to his backhand and Roddick volleyed the ball wide to the other side. The German sprinted the width of the court and hit a down the line winner on the run to go up 4-3.

yes, thats kind of scary don't you think. it seems like he has something bothering him everytime it goes well in tennis....

but the good thing is, that he now can climb up in the rankings cause the only good things he did in 2005 was a SF in Hamburg and Halle and nothing else further than the 3rd round. so IF he stays healthy he can finally make it to the TMC i wish :)

He really needs extra luck, maybe cuts his hair,or sees a geomantic master, whatsoever. :awww: It's too frustrating to see when he gets a better results, injuries or illnesses attack him again and again.Maybe he was wrong before, but no one deserves this long,it's too unfair.

Jogy I agree with you, if he hadn't gotten hurt the title would have been his  And I don't think he will go to Monte Carlo either. Really what's the point? The wrist probably wouldn't be 100% and Tommy was going to have to face Federer in that Tournament. And a player doesn't want to be less than 100% when it is time to play Federer.
