What will Marat Safin's year-end rank be in 2004?

What do you think Marat Safin's ranking will be at the end of next year?

wow I have absolutely no clue....I mean if his 2004 comeback is anything like his 2003 attempt then it won't be anywhere near the top 10 but if he's back and really ready to go then obviously it's possible.

if he's healthy and hungry enough there's no reason why he cant be at the top - it'll be tough for him no doubt.

this is really though to say, cause Marat is so unpredictable. If he`s healthy and hungry he will be back definetly! Though its a long and difficult road.

doing ranges of ranking ( eg. 1-3, 4-6, 7-9) is better than just one rank. i say just below top 10

I picked "Lower than 6".

I couldn't even begin to guess where Marat will be. I think it's pretty easy to bet that he won't finish as the number one player, but he certainly has the ability to finish somewhere in the top ten if he can play well.

I have no idea. My gut tells me that he will finish lower than number 6 for sure.

I'm guessing that if everything's ok he'll get back into the top 10, and probably be between 7 and 4

I'm surpised at the confidence of some fans here. I'm Safin's fan too, but let's be more objective. At his best he is in top-3. But considering the fact that he is starting from 40-50% readiness, and that he lacks many points we should say that he will get to the top ten in the third (hopefully) quarter of the season and then there would be an extreme fight. If he would get to the top3 that would be on the Master's Cup.

Marat has nothing to defend next season while all the other players have A LOT to defend. I'm not being too optimistic here, but it's not impossible. The situation is a bit like in 2000, only this time he was injured and not screwing up. If he gets back to form around RG then a lot can still happen before the end of the season.

Well, of course we should not be too optimistic, but everything is possible. Its just a question of him getting his confidence back, which could least some time though.

I adore Marat, but I'm realistic.....I don't think he'll be over the 6 main spots, then I chose the last option.

to come back from 8 months long injury break, you really need to be a hard working player. Safin has said before that he's not. so 6 at best.

climbing back to the top 10 is pretty hard, not to mention the top 10, considering the amount of talent there is in that group. If he's to make it, his comeback has to be better than his late 2003 'comeback', but with marat u're never sure of anything... as long as he's healthy and has the right attitude, then he has a shot.

Uh, yeah. I imagine that if if in 2004 comeback attempt that he ends up sidelined and not playing most of the year due to injury, that his ranking will stay in the shitter.

Anyways... I hope that he reaches the top ten again. He's very entertaining, and nice to look at. Tennis is much better off with Safin playing well.

I bet his libido is still top 10 and if so, I doubt his game will be there.

After a season full of injury, all Marat can be hopeful for is that he can pick up a few 1/4 final and second week Grand Slam performances in the first six months of the year. Then, with form concentrate on the US Open. But to predict a ranking is tough. He has the talent to get back to Top 5, but he'll have to work on his consistentcy.

What does he have to defend? Really nothing.

What you have to defend really doesn't make a difference on your year end ranking (aside perhaps from consequences of the psychological stress that might result from having heaps of pressure on you to "defend")... when it comes to year end rankings, they all start out on a blank slate... so I'm not sure what his crappy ranking now has to do with anything.

If anything, all it means is that he could play Andre in round one in Australia.

I will be very difficult for Marat to get back to top. Not only he has to bring back his A-form but also restore his confidence. But I hope he does get back to top 10, alright top 8 so he will be in MC. ;)

That's what I'm anxious about, the draw won't be too kind to Marat this season. He might meet top contenders for the title in the early rounds. But that could be double edge sword, if he beats and takes out these top players, that could mean Marat's confidence skyrocketing.

But I'm hoping. :) and believing as my sig suggested.
