Boo no doubles again for Nole. I wonder if he and Andy put in for another WC or anything and then changed their plans when Andy got injured.

Mashik, Andy plays once in a while when he wants the match play for his singles game. And it's funny he did it at this tourney since I don't think doubles matches even start til Sunday which would be after his first singles match? I dunno but i think it's good for him :)

And I just noticed that Llodra who last year stated he wasn't going to play doubles anymore( And Santoro and he were a fun team) but look he is in the draw. I just thought about Travis P traveling to IW last week and not getting in.

How do they determine seedings for the draw? Looking at the combined points used to enter, Ginepri/Roddick should have been seeded 6th and Ancic/Ljubicic seeded 7th. Can someone explain please?

Deboogle!.
03-23-2006, 09:20 PM
I think they use the doubles rankings for seeds... I mean a team like Aspelin/Perry is one of the top teams in the world, if they weren't seeded and faced a top seed in the first round or whatever, that'd be just wrong.

Thanks deb :wavey:
That makes sense but I didn't know. So a singles ranking can bump a doubles player like Travis out of the draw completely; but if they manage not to get bumped out, the doubles players get seeded ahead of the singles players?

Obviously that's what Andy and Robby and Mario and Ivan did. So I guess once you're into the draw, the seeding is done by the doubles ranking. At least that's how it seems to have been done. Too bad for a guy like Travis who doesn't have a great doubles ranking and has no singles ranking :(

It's too bad for those doubles players like Travis.... but overall, there are arguments in favor of it. Before, a team like Andy/Robby would need a WC. So now instead they get in directly and the WC can be given to someone else. I dunno, it's a tricky situation.

2006 ATP Official Rulebook:6.14 SELECTION OF ENTRIES
C. Doubles Main Draw - ATP and Challengers
Direct acceptances for ATP and Challenger Series events shall be in the following order:
1) Teams composed of players in either the INDESIT ATP Entry Ranking (Singles) or the ATP Doubles Entry Ranking. The combined positions of the two players (using best singles or doubles Entry Ranking) shall be added together and the total used to determine the Direct Acceptances. The most recent INDESIT ATP Entry Ranking (Singles) and/or ATP Doubles Entry Ranking List, including any Entry Protection, shall be used. Ties shall be resolved as follows:
a) Team using two (2) singles Entry rankings.
b) Team using one (1) singles Entry ranking.
c) A team using an Entry Protection is positioned below the other team(s); if one player on each team is using an Entry Protection then the position of each remaining player determines which team is positioned higher.
d) For ties between teams with the same composition, priority will be given to the team with the strongest individual singles Entry Ranking, including Protected ranking, or for teams using two doubles Entry Ranking's, the fewest number of tournaments played and then the team with the highest number of points.
6.15 SEEDS DEFINITION
...
For doubles, seeded teams will be determined by using the combined doubles Ranking of the two players (entry protection not included). The ATP has used combined rankings for doubles entry for a while. The only 2006 rule change re. entry is that all places in the draw are open to all teams whereas prior to 2006 there were some places reserved for teams using two doubles rankings & the other places open to teams using two singles rankings (or one singles ranking/one doubles ranking).

Who is Luis Manrique?I've never heard of him before, but Coria said in an interview that Manrique is an old friend of his and lodged him the first time he came to Miami 15 years ago.

It's embarrassing, I know. That should be the weakest double team ever.
