Tim and Greg!!! :yeah: :D  :haha: :help: Oh man this is going to be a painful day....

Anyway, on to the betting. R1 action in the top half of the draw.

I'm not going to second-guess Safin's fitness so I won't tip him or bet him, but if he turns up then he will win because Henman is a good match-up for him.

Can anyone give me any good reason why Pavel is 1.83...I expected about 1.57? I know Pavel's results haven't been great but look at who he has lost to...for the most part they are decent opposition. Any thoughts? Thanks

My biggest bet this month comes against Donald "no-hoper" Young, God Bless people backing him who get me -150 on Berlocq.
Sure Berlocqs a clay guy, but at least he's proven he can play top competition, even if it is on clay - he did play Phau 4 tough sets at the AO.
Among other luminaries Young has lost to on HC this year
Yahny Romero #285
Ivan Miranda #400
Marcus Fugate #840
Kryvonos #918
Nathan Thompson #983, less than a month ago
All in FUTURES events, & keep in mind these guys rankings are padded by beating Young, lol
I'll just keep on pounding against this freeloader until he can win an atp set or can do well in a challenger

Bet 10 units to win 6.5 on Berlocq

Interesting line for Young who hasn't won a match in close to two years.

Florian Mayer (1.763) vs Luis Horna
Horna is a claycourt specialist, he isn't horrible on hard, but he's not good. He got killed by Bracciali 6-3 6-3 at Indian Wells, and Mayer is a better player. Mayer is only 5-5 in his last 10 on hard (same as Horna), but his losses have come to the likes of Federer, Malisse (3 sets), Hewitt (3 sets), Nieminen, and Karlovic (3 sets). He is a solid player on hard who beats players that he should, and battles players that he doesn't. I see no reason why he shouldn't dispatch Horna.

Play:

Giving edge to PHM. Djok is very capable player on HC but also loses to lots of lesser players too. PHM has shown a bit of consistency this year in his form and ability to beat players he should.

Play 2:

(Wager ammount pending on PHM match outcome)

Pavel to beat Martin @1.8

Pavel owns Martin h2h and is really a decent performer on HC. Martin really belongs on clay but I'm a bit scared that he took Gasquet to 5 at the USO, and Martin also has had quite a few nice wins on HC. He did, however, get owned by Goldie last week at IW which says enough.

Fancy Seppi to beat Spadea today @ evens. Seppi is pretty capable on the hard courts and has had some decent results this season. He has been losing a few tight three setters in recent weeks against decent players but I'm backing him to pull through today against Spadea who although has done alright on the American hard courts, hasn't really beat a high calibre player this year.

I'll see the other odds when they come through and decide.

Hmm, maybe it's because Martin had a decent run at Sunrise, Florida week ago in similar conditions, on similar courts. He defeated some names there - Seppi, bagelling Vanek etc. Besides he isn't a novice on faster courts than clay (vide Stockholm 2005 f.e.). I'm not touching it though. I'm not convinced enough about Martin's abilities on hardcourts, while Pavel is a mistery.

Depends on how Scud is playing. In the past he would have blew someone like Saguenetti off the court but with the injuries, its hard to tell which player will turn up nowdays.

Sanguenetti has struggled to handle big servers this season losing to Mirnyi, Karlovic and Ancic . Scud also beat him last season on grass.

If I was going to back anyone it would be Scud but I wouldn't touch this game personally.

Hey Jaap, what happened to Gimelstob do you know mate???

I was pleased but p****** off at the same time, when Goldstein was 3-6 4-5 40-15 down i would of been happy for my money back becasue of the retiement ( bloody totesport!!!! void if not completed) but when he went 0-40 up in the third at 1-1 i thought this was going to be an amazing comeback. But never mind money back is better than nothing!!

What happened to Gimelstob, when did he get injured do you know??

I know. I would have taken a retirement when Goldstein was a set down but after he got back to 1-1 and on the verge of a break in the third, it was a bit dissapointing to see Gimelstob retire. The way Goldstein had been squandering break points, there was no guarantees he was going to take them anyway.

Oh well, no harm done!

3 bets in today:

Double: Mathieu & A. Martin over Djokovic & Pavel...Mathieu has bounced back from an inconsistent year last season and is now playing good tennis beating Seppi and Kiefer both in 3 sets. I have a feeling this match could also go in to a deciding set but i think Mathieu has the edge. Pavel CAN play well, but off late he isn't playing that well and he is very inconstistent...At first i wanted to go Pavel but then i saw results of Sunrise where Alberto beat some good players and got to the final.

Double: Seppi & Vliegen over Spadea & Pashanski....I know Spadea got to two semifinals this year so far but he did not get such a great wins. Seppi started off in January really hot but got some 3 sets losses off late losing to Djoko in Rotterdam and Mathieu last week in IW. I fancy Seppi to take control from the baseline and beat Spadea in two set. Vliegen over Pashanski doesn't need explanation i guess.

Single: Muller over Mirnyi. Fairly good odds for Muller who had a decent year up onto now. Mirnyi is nothing from the player he was last year (and where the odds are also based on i guess) losing a lot of first round matches. Mirnyi should be back in form sometime, i hope that won't be today...

well my accumulators can range from anything like 5 to 35 selections.

for accumulators between 5-12 i usually get anything between 1-4 wrong on good days. today i'm only truly confident about a few bets that i have with only 3/5/6 selections but thought it was worth being more adventurous when i looked at the matches on offer. at wimbledon last year i got 27/28 in one bet, a few years back i remember getting 32/36 but i usually don't go for so many selections. i have my good and bad days.

also a hint of desperation because i got about 5 right yesterday but didn't make as much as i should have, and boy do i need some cashflow!

Youzhny over rusedski @1.5 : Gregory is like scud, a bit past the sell by date and big serve no longer that effective, youzhny's too good for him.

vliegen over pashanski: should be comfortable for vliegs against this clay goon.
Phm over Djoko: Henri showing good signs this year, and doesnt seem to choke as much, altho it can still happen.
Pavel over Beto martin: dodgy match but favour Pavel
Safin over Henman: another dodgy one but favour big M, his powerful groundies can be just too hot to handle for Henman's net game, but GL tim!

I agree, but it isn't just the court.

Horna didn't dominate anything, Horna had one break point the entire match that he of course won. Mayer had three break points including one set point. Horna played the few important points and won them all, he beat Mayer with his mental toughness and Mayer's lack of it.

Vliegen is known for letting up after winning the first set and dropping the 2nd.

Not to mention this isn't their first hard court tournament after the transition from clay to hard, of course improvement is expected.

Nothing to do with the court speed IMO...

Horna is no mug on hardcourt and when you get someone as consistent as him from the back up against a flakey player he will always dominate the rallies from the back.

People were reading way too much into his loss last week first round against Bracciali, he spent the last month on dirt in South America and making the transition from dirt to HC is not as easy as some may think.

I'm very sorry not many got on board this free money train - maybe next undeserved wc!im certainly gutted...
i stayed away coz i thought Berlocq was the second worst player in this draw (behind young off course) and even then was a huge gap between em...

Berlocq was the easist winner today. He isn't as bad as his rank or record says, unlike that Donald nobody.

Berlocq is easily the worst player in the Top 100 right now. But Donald Young is still so bad that even Berlocq can beat the hell out of him...
