Thought it was time we started a new thread for David in Miami-
Vamos David!

Just a brief sighting of him from a friend of mine who is there- she saw him practising with Chucho yesterday- but he was on a distant court- so no photos...and no confirmed sighting of Javier!
She has promised to keep us informed!

My aunt saw him in Indian Wells - she didn't have her camera - practicing with she thinks Andreev. When she telephoned me the first thing she said was isn't he small!

I guess Igor and David train at the same tennis club in Valencia... I saw Igor in Mtl, speaking Spanish w his coach.

Hope David can do well - he does have SF pts to defend -- a lot!

 Didn't they play Andreev & Davydenko in Indian Wells?

I think David only looks 'compact' because it's from far away and yes he's on the shorter side - he's no giant like Safin or Dick Norman.

Vamos David! :bounce:

Well guys I'm back! Actually got back friday but have been very busy. Only checked in to watch the scoreboard for David's match. No time until now to report on my trip to Miami.

First two days we spend shopping, or trying to. Saw uncle Toni looking very out of place at Guess while his wife/girfriend/daughter tried on something bery tacky. When we got to the tennispark on wednesday, I first went to meet my "contact" at playersregistration. It was cool to finally meet her after wondering what kind of person I was emailing with information on my private life. ;) Also great to be "backstage" so to speak. Got my free-tickets, thanks again Gladys, and when leaving playersregistration saw...........the David running for his live, seriously in escape-mode. So I'm standing there all "what the ..." while my hubby tries to get his camera out of his bag in 1-2-3. So either my "contact" told him about me or he was in a hurry. After that I spend two days hoping to see him at a practice court or getting an ice-cream. All together with Javi of-course as not to let my friends at MTF down. Well I'm so sorry guys but I didn't see David again, damn he must know about me  and Javi I didn't see at all. :sobbing: :sobbing: :sobbing:

But I did see almost every other player on the tour practice.....shirtless :p and watched some lovely matches, so overall I had a great time. Didn't want to go back home. Loved the tennispark at Key Biscayne very fan-friendly. (not if your a David fan tho ;) )

Good luck David for todays match, I know you can do it. At least you have the speed to get to the balls   .

Hope you're feeling better Rosie.

Will now go and watch Tiger Tim kick some young guys ass.

:wavey: There's a (Spanish) interview with him on ATP: http://wm.atptennis-global.speedera.net/wm.atptennis-global/ferrer_miami6.mp3

He's happy he got through. He said it was a long match and that's why he got cramps, not because it was hot and humid. He said he feels fine now after getting treatment ('stretched out').

He said whomever he plays next (Coria or O. Rochus), it will be difficult because both are good baseliners.

FerrersLinda
03-28-2006, 03:08 AM
OMG  Olivier Rochus the dwarf that David hasn't figured out yet. I would have so preferred him to play Coria. Tough as-well but it just seems that Rochus is on a roll at the moment. David it seems is still a bit shaky. But he.... he's beat better players so VAMOS DAVIS :bigclap:

For real he's playing again tomorrow (tuesday)? I thought he was playing wednesday.

Oh and Isa, I have a second chance at this years RG. So I'll creep up on him there, just so he can't get away. ;)

Just found out that, oh yes, the mighty ESPN-gods of tennis-programming have heard my prayers and they will show Ferrer-Roddick. Have changed my schedule for this afternoon and will not pick up the phone until the end of the match. Am very excited, this is my first David match this year!

ANIMO DAVID :bounce:

Hope you're feeling better Alisia. :wavey: Don't see how a double dose of David could be bad for you tho?

Morning Elea

Looks like it is another late night for us.

WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID

Roger Federer:
On Ferrer: "I wouldn't have picked him coming through to the semis even though he was here last year. He came out of a tough section. That is great credit for him. He fought incredibly hard, the few matches I saw... But I thought he would have had a chance against Andy today. He did well, you know. It was a close match. I expect a tough match, too."

Not a bad compliment I wonder if David has been on to Rafa to see how to derail the Fedexpress?

This is what Roddick had to say about the match

Roddick was crystal clear in giving Ferrer his due after their match: "He’s just solid. He’s very solid, and fast. I’d uncork forehands and he was picking up half-volleys. All the things that the average person wouldn’t consider spectacular he does extremely well."

This is what David needs...to play at his best not only in one match...but an entire tournament. Or in a whole season, but thats really difficult, thats what Fed does . I think that's what he needs to take all those semis and finals he played (and keeps playing :) ), and turn them into titles. Like he did in Shangai.
Less than 5 hours for the match...can't wait!!!.

I haven't see the match yet - it started at 1.00am our time so no TV coverage - and I will have to be content with recorded highlights this afternoon. Of course I am sad that he lost  - but at the same time - reaching the semis of a hardcourt Masters' is a tremendous achievement - especially with that wonderful win over Roddick on the way. I've just watched the highlights and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I wonder what would have happened if he'd have challanged that call at 30-0 when he was 3-1 up it would have made him 40-0 but hey we will never know. All the same he has had a great tourniment & he should be very proud of himself.

It's a pretty good field actually - Marat Safin has a Wild Card there, Juan-Carlos Ferrero is playing, and also Gaudio, Davydenko, Lopez and Verdasco. I think David may find it hard there with the extra pressure of being his hometown tournament - but hope he can do well.
And alisia - I agree with you - I just watched the match too and I was pleasantly surprised despite the scoreline. As for the bad call - guess there's no point in dwelling on what might have been

Just checked the tourneys website out of curiosity.(and created a early Valencia thread) Does look like a great field. And yeah the pressure will be on for him to deliver at home, but he usually fights harder when pushed, so...fingers crossed. I think he so deserves a home tourney win.

I am pleased to hear it - and big  to Noodles - though my boys (Sasha, Wilby and Caspar) are not the easiest of felines to get along with  They are all "rescue cats" that were formerly ill-treated and they can be quite difficult with people apart from myself and other animals - I do love them all though :inlove: And am soon to get a 4th - as Caspar is still only a kitten and gets bored because the others are old and won't play with him - so I thought a companion of his own age would stop him wrecking the house

Finally got back to this thread: It's too bad that David could not challenge Rogi more in the SF but I have to say well done to David for defending all those pts, which is so tough esp in a TMS! He s be proud of himself.

I hope someone in Valencia recognizes that and mentions it to everyone at the Open.

David s take some confidence w him to Valencia and beyond, knowing that he is again a Top 10 player and even more dangerous on clay!

Nice start by David breaking 1st game of the match I wonder if Linda is screaming for him ;)

I'm sure she is  Don't see Monaco giving him much trouble to be honest. I used to like Monaco when he first started, - he was a nice kid, but he has changed a lot and developed a bit of a bad attitude this last year - too arrogant for my own taste

I wasn't expecting too much trouble either, but maybe not quite this easy (I shouldn't be so pessimistic). I had a small crisis in the office just as the match started, came back and the set was almost over in that short time.

Keep it up!

We only ever have mens' matches on Sky - they don't show WTA  I am just mad that JM's match is last on court, because even though it's on a televised court, I won't see it because it will be too late ,and TV coverage ends at midnight  Damned time differences

No tax paper work and no WTA - Britain looks better and better for a moving option!

I'm hoping we get JM, and with the way the schedule lines up, I imagine we'll get at least some of his match - I'll give a report if we do. I like Youzhny a lot, but in this case, wouldn't mind two straight losses to Argentines.

Oh don't worry- we have plenty of WTA on Eurosport - but Sky, who have the contract for all the Masters' Series events, don't have the rights to show WTA.So when they play in Indian Wells, and Miami, we know we won't be seeing "chick tennis" as a good friend of mine rather disparagingly calls it :)

Crawled out of bed and spent the last 30 minutes reading up on things in Ferrer land. Hope you'll feel better soon Rosie.

This will be a short report as my two cats have been partying in my house, so cleaning will have to be done. Loads of dirty clothes are waiting to be washed, have to go grocery shopping if I want to eat something and the lovely Noodles needs to be picked up.

First of all I have to disappoint all of you: I didn't go to the autograph session because I didn't know about it. All I saw was girls being announced to sign stuff and you know how much WTA interests me so I never bothered to go there. I did see David training with Carlos, with shirts on though:p And the next day he was just finishing up his warm up with Javi before his match against Monaco. That match btw was a disappointment. Monaco played well below his abilities. So basically all David had to do was hit the ball back. Nothing to exciting so nice win for David but a very boring match with a wet bum for Linda to top it of. When it rains your seat gets wet:ras: David couldn't get away from the court fast enough during the rain delay but Pico decided to keep me company while waiting for the rain to stop. He was super relaxed and I think just hoping the rain would go away quick so the nightmare match would come to an end.

As I said before, I had to leave yesterday after the first set. I had estimated that I could see the whole match but then Henin decided to first play like a wet towel and then at match point Razzano to make a comeback of an extra set and a tiebreak. So while the whole crowd was cheering for Justine I was screaming, "get a move on, and get of my court". People around me where getting somewhat irritated by my behaviour but I'm sorry I had a plane to catch but a match to watch first. David played well in the first few games but Bolelli played better. Never though did I sense that Bolelli was gonna be able to keep it up for a complete match so I wasn't worried. Team Ferrer btw consisted of Javi, David's girl and Igor Andreev yesterday. And they were sitting right in front of me so I got some nice pictures of the three of them.

Rosie, I have to say your baby boy impressed me so much during his match against Baggy. I was really curious how he would handle such a big match and he did excellent. The rain delay screwed him for a little bit, that's why he lost the second set. Lack of experience I think. Because during the delay he just sat there looking very uncomfy while Baggy was chatting away with his people. But wow what a game does Juan Martin have and you are right he's a good boy he stayed on the court for a while after his match to thank the crowd.:yeah:

More later. Hopefully I'll have some time today to sort out the first batch of photo's.:D

Women should have separate tournaments. Oh wait ...... they do........ sometimes.:p

Awww, but could the girl have been Andreev's? :aplot:

Nope because I also saw her at Davids practise and she looked exactly like the girl in the Spanish tv-special. Also my friend at players-registration confirmed she was his girl.:)

Anyhow, today I had a phone interview and I've got a face-to-face one tomorrow morning.

Good luck Isa, good to hear you are getting things sorted so quickly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.:yeah:

Muppet boys are on court. :p

And not doing to bad agains the doubles specialists Damm/Paes. VAMOS:clap2:

Pffffffff just got home, this morning I had forgotten about my 'date' with the bank. But I remembered in time so I had a lovely:rolleyes: time there and I'll be going again tomorrow. At least my house is clean, Noodles is back, my friends plants are watered and my laundry is in progress.:)
Noodles was in the car before I could open the door for her.:D
Photo's will have to wait until tomorrow. Due to my new camera I also have to install a new program on my computer so that's what I'll be doing tonight.
David isn't afraid of me.:awww:

I agree wta & atp should be kept seperate  I watched more wta tennis in IW than I have in the last 10 yrs :D

It was the first time I've ever seen her at a tourney let alone a match of David. She's tiny and my friend couldn't believe she wasn't his little sister. Also saw Verdasco's girlfriend wobble past me a few times on her super high heels, it was entertaining to say the least.;)

Talking about impressing the ladies, your boy Tommy was making big bambi eyes at me during his practise. I had to look behind me to see if he wasn't trying to flirt with some beautiful Florida babe that sat on the row above me. But no, it was just me. And he kept going at it.:help:

Yay! Noodles :dog: Give her a hug from me. Sorry to hear the bank is still being a pain.

You should feel special, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone seeing his girl in the flesh before.

Thanks. The phone interview was promising so hopefully when I go in tomorrow I'll like the company and the people.

 Or maybe she threatened to end it if he didn't take her somewhere :o WTA wouldn't be so bad but lately it just seems all the girls are poor, it's the survival of the least worse

I'm watching Canas-Gasquet. I'll be happy whoever wins. ;)

:haha: I can just imagine Tommy trying to pick up girls saying 'How YOU doin'?

They have fun Sue & don't take it serious at all so what's the point :D A couple of years ago David was turning into quite a good doubles player but now I think he just sees it as a practice session :o If you haven't seen then play together it's  interesting :p

The last time I went to IW in '99 I saw Marat & Carlos play doubles that was more than interesting  I think they actually had an arguement during the 1st set after Marat accidentally hit Carlos on his ass :o

Lets face it they aren't ever going to win tournis but if they have a laugh & wind down what's the harm :D thou I think their attitude p****d Federer off last week he was really really trying & failing & they were chatting away laughing :o
