The last time I went to IW in '99 I saw Marat & Carlos play doubles that was more than interesting  I think they actually had an arguement during the 1st set after Marat accidentally hit Carlos on his ass :o

Lets face it they aren't ever going to win tournis but if they have a laugh & wind down what's the harm :D thou I think their attitude p****d Federer off last week he was really really trying & failing & they were chatting away laughing :o

Same with Fer and Feli last year. They were playing Hanley and Ullyett for who it obviously is a little more important. Fer/Feli were chatting to their girlfriends and doing funny jumps while Hanley and Ullyett were out there trying to make a living. It ws fun to watch though.

Marat and Carlos together hey...... sounds like and interesting team.

Yep they even asked people in the crowd if they wanted ago because they were soo bad :o

Marat was 19 & relatively unheard of & most people thought he was Spanish  Carlos was on the verge of becoming world #1 I don't think many knew who he was either :o So there was only about 20 people watching them play which was a shame needless to say they lost in straight sets :D

I think it's both practise and fun for them. They obviously enjoy playing together so I'd say let 'em.:) I saw Feli and Nando play doubles last year at RG and it was quite a show.:D

David was pretty relieved that he didn't need to be escorted in and out of games today. Phew! That Tica Glenn Close really scared the pants off of him. :wavey: I see you made it back in one piece. ;)

BTW Linda....I meant to ask ...did you ever get a chance to get David to sign THAT picture ? ;)

Interesting is just another way of saying HOT. Speaking of the sexy Russian, I saw him play Feli and he was looking just fiiiiinnnnnnnneeeeee. He was playing like a sack of hay though and his attitude needs to change will he ever win a tournament again. He was complaining and talking to himself/the crowd/the ref. from the first point. Although the entertainment value was very high it was an ugly match that Feli deserved to win.

No David didn't sign his fashion picture, to be honest I never asked. Sorry.

I could have taken more but believe it or not the first two days I was a bit nervous about how much was gonna fit onto my memory-card. Yesterday at David's match I just clicked away though, I took about 100 of that match only.:o

May I interupt everyone's fantasies of what the photos hold in store and ask why they're called the muppets (at least if it's suitable for print:P)? I sort of know what the muppets were/are, but honestly never watched or paid any attention to them, so haven't been able to make a connection with David and Tommy.

I believe the term was first used to describe Juan Carlos Ferrero but now it's for any Spaniard who's playing wonky or the Russians who have Spanish ties (Safin & Andreev).

 He lost! I watched the whole thing & he played a good match except for 2 games the most frustrating thing was he should have broken Roddick & served for the 1st set :smash: & in the 2nd it was he who had the 1st chance to break :fiery: but he didn't  Roddick's serve wasn't working all the time thou he did do a body serve at 150mph on one break point  Anyway he had a decent tournament thou of course not as good as the last 2 yrs :( At least I've still got Tommy who's match I'm just watching the end of :D

One thing thou we noticed the gf didn't get very excited infact at one point my boy thought she'd fell asleep :o

At least he will soon be on clay & hopefully have a much better time this year than he did last.

Hola!:wavey:

Got back from the tennispark a few minutes ago. Had loads of fun, took millions of pictures and have been very very cold.:awww: Luckily the weather should be better tomorrow.

Okay, so a big :clap2: for Dik who booked the hotel, because it's us and every ATP player minus Roger. Not quite sure if David is here too, but we did have dinner with Javi last night(ok so he wasn't actually at our table:rolleyes:), so I'm imagining they are in this hotel. Sr. Piles btw is here with Sra. Piles and their two cuter than cute kids.:awww: Saw David practice today, his right arm is taped up so that isn't good news. Like last year his girlfriend is with him again, so I'm blaming it on her.

Rosie you lucky girl, I've got you your Dima pics. Alisia, I also watched Tommy practice and he still likes me.:bolt: I was nice though and complimented him on his shirt that had a puppy on the back. Got loads of Marat pics, I think he's going out of style because there was hardly anybody watching him practice.

Gotta go into the bar now, talk again tomorrow.:wavey:

So that's the reason Tommy is getting his backside kicked by Sela  :p

Have a safe flight home

I'm a bit old-fashioned, what can I say? As a child I adopted my parents' record player and all their albums - probably played them more than my own cassette tapes - and I didn't get my first CD player until the Xmas I was 15.

Hi guys!

I'm having an awesome time. Just got back to the hotel, all sweaty, dirty and tired. Seen loads of great tennis. Highlight so far: watching Marat actually win a match. I met up with Birte today which was great. Some of you won't believe where she found me, well actually I found her, at Tommy Robredo's match. Yep Ali, I went there specially for you.

Oh saw David about a million times around the grounds yesterday. Took truckloads full of pictures. But you'll have to wait at least another week before I can upload them.

Davy plas the grandstand tomorrow 2nd match, against Isner. Look for me in the stands.;)

It's been sooo long without any Ferru.... so sad, BUT: at least it will have given him SRT (Shoulder Recovery Time).

I am really looking forwards for our Ferru -

BTW: the ATP World Tour 2011 YearBook is now available. I can't find an ISBN in my copy to refer you folks to, which is rather naughty, as, (as far as I understand publishy-things, it should have been assigned one...).

In the UK, WH Smiths have them. They describe him as "This incredibly hard working right-hander from Valencia..."

Hi Linda, you're really lucky you're gonna get to see him. Please take lots of photos. There is also a charitable event for the relief of Japans tragedy. It's going to be a soccer match made up of ATP Pros and one team will be made up of Djokovic, Nadal, Murray...and Ferrer too. So if you are leaving Wednesday and you're not too tired from your trip...it'll be that same night!

http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2011/3/Other/Japan-Relief-Effort.aspx (for more info) I mean how lucky are you that you get to see Ferrer play tennis and soccer?!!!!

(I enjoyed going to Indian Wells, but honestly heart was broken because Nadal didn't win the final. Hopefully you'll get to see good matches) Have a safe journey

Sounds like a great event, with Ferru and Nadal included.

I also was sad Rafa lost. He seemed awfully tired. All of my favorite players lost this time. I hope Miami will be better for both Ferru and Rafa.

What a nice opportunity there - top-notch Armada showing on the football team - Rafa, Feli, Nando, and Ferru. And there's a dinner afterward. I'd go to that in a heartbeat. P.S. Funny Roger not participating. Is he not into football or is it because Djoko organized it. ;)

Yes, Roger is concentrating solely on tennis. I think this is wise, both because he's nearly 30 and because his game has been really off lately. He has been quite careless recently.

Wow, lots of the Armada-all of the recent Davis Cup team-is participating! I'd like to see pics of that when they become available.

To be fair, I don't think Novak skis much either because of the risks and if what I have read is correct, he started skiing as a little lad. I expect the top guys have fairly strict contract restrictions with their management / sponsors as well.

Whatever, I'm sure that the match will be a real success, everyone will enjoy themselves and a lot of $$$ will be raised.

When Ferrer hit the ball towards the stands, I thought nothing of it really, just frustration. I think people are just making a big deal!

2. "Ferrer's wildly inappropriate move" = that 2 km/h lob that wouldn't kill a fly if it bounced on it?

3. If he really aimed for that child, I think it was wrong and he should apologize.

It's hard, you don't want to move with your baby in between change-overs. On the other hand you don't want your baby to cry and disturb the players either.

I myself have a 9 month old but not for 2 seconds did I think of taking him to the tourny with me. I believe I wouldn't be doing him any favors by bringing him. It was very hot and humid, plus which kid has the patience to sit still for at least 90 minutes?

Well that would explain his UE fest of a match. There had to be a good reason as he never throws a match away. Awfully tough to do anything let alone play competitive tennis when the stomach is out of whack. He must of been relieved just to have finished the match.

He's 29 this Saturday!! Wow. He's "aging" nicely.

If he had wanted to intentionally hit that kid, he could have done so. That lob was aimed at nobody.

I find it kinda funny and have to chuckle at the fact that he is now finally a famous tennis player. He should have whacked a ball at a baby way before this, instead of winning tournaments.:p On the other hand it bothers me a little that this happened to Ferrer, 'cause he really is one of the nicest guys out there.

I agree. Of all the stunts other players pull, such as arguing with umpires, spitting, threatening line judges and acting like all-around spoiled brats, Ferrer's action isn't even a blip on the radar screen. Ferru is indeed one of the nice ones, along with Rafa and Juan Carlos.

Agree too!

Trust the media to over-hype a random incident "Ferrer's wildly inappropriate move" my a*** As if no-one else has ever hit a ball out of court in frustration  If there had been a real issue, wouldn't the umpire have intervened for offensive behaviour?

Anyway, I blame the parents for being selfish in taking such a young child to an event like that in the first place (and the child (from what I saw) didn't even have a sunhat on) - little children have such short attention spans.

Hope David ignored all that crap. Anyway, there'll be another sensationalist story about someone coming up soon...

I just realized that this thread wasn't updated this year. I know perhaps now isn't the best time to update it, but I still want to point out David had a fantastic run at Miami. I'm extremely heartbroken for him he didn't win the title, esp because he had a championship point. In the end it didn't work for him. I've never seen him this gutted before, it was hard to see him like that. I really do believe another masters is in his future. I still say he is an amazing player, and I'll always support him proudly. :)
