I just realized that's all in like the one day leading up to the AO.... maybe they'll show more during the second week of the tourney but those listings aren't up yet.

Poo that I don't get ESPN Classic.

And ah yes, that Jen v. Martina match again. They never fail to show that one. It wasn't THAT great, IMO. Not the cleanest of tennis and a big choke job by the Swiss.

lol yea.....

I get it at home but not here, so at least I can employ the "mommy and daddy pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze tape it for me" tactic ;)

I don't even have it home.

I guess I can go the way of "mommy and daddy pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze order ESPN Classic for our cable" ;)

That Agassi/Sampras 2000 match is awesome. Tennis magazine called it more exciting than their USO2001 quarterfinal, and I'm inclined to agree... (i'm sure the winner has nothing to do with it, lol)

Agassi/Sampras 1995 is not quite as good, but still very entertaining. you get to see Andre as a pirate.

And of course that Rafter/Ivanisevic Wimbledon final is a total classic.

For the Canadians:

ESPN Classic Canada also shows classic AO matches. Just last week I saw the Becker VS Chang final. It was 1996 I think. Watch out for some more during the weeks leading to AO 2004. :)

happy to see these AO matches, but on a related note: Do they ever replay matches from the FRENCH open? I'm dying to rewatch Agassi/Medvedev 1999 and Seles/Graf 1992.

MisterQ, probably during the FO coverage they will show some classic FO matches

i dont think they have any rights to french open matches, actually. i know i've heard something about it...
they mainly show wimbledon (quite frequently) and australian open classics... sometimes a us open match, but both the others are shown more...

Yea they don't have the rights to do so. I forgot why but I read somewhere that they aren't entitled to show the FO matches.

oh ok well there's the answer then LOL!! Don't they show current FO though? I thought they showed the AO, FO, and Wimby (and USA has the rights to the USO). oh well.....

MisterQ

yeah, that's why I asked about it ----ESPN does show the French, but they didn't show any classic matches last year like they did with the AO and Wimby. So probably jackson & faboo are right, it's an issue with the rights to the footage...

faboozadoo15
12-09-2003, 09:42 PM
just the rights to previus footage i guess... maybe eurosport wants it all or something.

but if theres rain, espn will show old matches somehow. i dont know how it works...
but ive read and noticed that espn CLASSIC has no french open...

Okay probably the worst question ever on this board, but what the hell: what's ESPN? I assume a sports channel, showing a lot of tennis (what is a lot? :) ).. But we don't have that here, so I don't know it... is it included in things like Canal+ or something?

please don't kill me.. i'm not that bad a tennis fan :worship:

yes, it's our all sports channel... u will become accustomed to ppl (mostly americans) bitch about their tennis coverage bc espn doesn't do a good jub... im in the minority who appreciates any type of coverage, not caring if it's agassi and roddick every other day...

Oh no, I totally agree... I suppose it helps that I like both Agassi and Roddick but I'll take tennis over non-tennis any day of the week, no matter who it is! :)

Damn... couldn't they just start up a world wide only-tennis channel... that would be sweet.. Tennis all the year through, with extra's like interviews and documentaries and stuff.. I'd pay a lot of €'s for something like that :D *keep on dreamin' joske* hehe

well in the US a group of people started "The Tennis Channel" and it's all tennis all the time... but very few cable companies carry it so most of us can't actually watch it

J. Corwin

yup, ESPN is our main sports channel. But of course, sports to them = football, basketball, baseball...with maybe some hockey, golf...a little bit of soccer, billiards, poker (that's a sport?)..............(and oh once in awhile a bit of tennis and lawn bowling).....

You should see how much table tennis in February they are showing....it's sick... but noooo why bother showing REAL tennis
