Looks like Andre has made himself available for the USA's Davis Cup tie against Chile in April. That should prove interesting!

Wonder what PMac will do? Anyone going to this tie in Mission Hills, CA? We're trying, but not sure yet if we'll be going. Got our fingers crossed...would love to be there to cheer Bob and Mike on against Gonzalez/Massu! Also, it's on grass! How cool is that? Then, if Andre plays?! Man, this just keeps getting better and better.

That's awesome! I'd love to see Andre back on the DC team! I would go if I could. Should be an awesome tie to watch. Tough one, but really good tennis I think

Yeah, it'll be a tough tie for sure. Gonzalez/Massu are an excellant doubles team and great singles players too. I think the grass will be a huge advantage for us, but they're still dangerous. I've never watched a grass court match, so I really really want to go. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens...

By the way, hey Tinne! :D Since our board has been down, I've started stopping by here more often!

If I lived in the US I'd definitely go. Now that I've been to DC I wanna go over and over again :D

It will be interesting to see how well the Bryans will do. Normally the U.S. Team just figures they will win the Doubles, but Chile has put together a good Doubles team.
Unlike some other countries when it comes to Doubles they just seem to throw a couple of guys together

Deboogle!.
03-15-2006, 01:43 AM
I think there are very few of the top countries that are contending for the DC Title who just throw two guys together.

The USA used to do just that before PMac woke up and smelled the coffee! ;) But yeah, I'd have to agree that most DC teams don't have an established doubles team. Gonzalez/Massu are a great baselining doubles team and baseliners can give Bob and Mike trouble because it's such a different style of play than they are used to. However, I think grass gives us an advantage. They only made it to the R32 in Wimbledon as a team last year. We'll see, but it sure will be fun to watch! :)

It'll be hard to say what will happen - the Chileans arguably overperform when they're playing for their country, but the Bryans take DC very very seriously.... being in So Cal again and stuff, plus the fact that they lost to these guys at the Olympics, I think they'll do everything in their power to win.

Well, maybe the Chileans will play their hearts out because it's for their country. But on the other hand, I've never seen the US team do anything less. They show heart in every tie they play. Look at Andy against Romania. Throwing up on court, but not throwing in the towel. I felt so sorry for him, poor guy.
Playing on grass, I give the US a big change to go through. Like it was said before, you'll never see Gonzales or Massu get very far in a grass tournament, not at Wimbledon, but not at the smaller ones either.

Yep, definitely :D I was at the La Jolla tie and was quite proud :) Well, Gonzo did make the QF at Wimby last year and Gave Fed a pretty good match, but I know what you mean. And I agree :) We should be favored but it's DC so the team can't take them lightly even though it's at home and on grass. Based on the amount of Chilean fans I saw at Massu's first round match in Indian Wells, there might be more (and more LOUDER) Chilean fans at the tie than Americans, and that's disconcerting

 Yes, the Chilean fans will definately be loud! I saw them in Germany (WTC) two years ago and they were great fun! With them and the Netheads cheering for the US, it should be a fabulous atmosphere. :)
But you're right. Of course a team like Chile shouldn't be taken lightly. Even though grass wouldn't be their first choice, they're still really good players.

That's right! I saw Chilean fans, when our team played against Chile in DC. There were not many of them, but they were almost louder than all our crowd! I know, Russians are not the best supprters in the world  , but it impressed me very much! :)

03-15-2006, 07:43 PM
Well the US supporters aren't the best in the world either unfortunately. There were maybe somewhere around 30-50 Romanian supporters and sometimes I thought they were louder than all the thousands of US Supporters at the last tie :(

Well, Tiffany and I are going to Mission Hills too, so we'll be there to help get the USA crowd going! :) The Bryan's Bunch and the Netheads work pretty well together to get the crowd going...can't be outcheered in the USA! lol Deb, you should look for us...would love to meet you. We'll be in green on Saturday, easy to spot! :D

We were in La Jolla too...man. Too bad I didn't stop by here more often before or we could have met there. Love meeting Bryan fans! :D

awwwwwwwwwwww! That would've been fun, we will definitely meet up at Mission Hills :)

Amber
03-16-2006, 01:07 AM
No offense to those living in California, but I think it's the West Coast...we went to DC in Charleston and Delray Beach and both places were unbelievable! The crowd was loud and really into the matches. Connecticut wasn't as good, but decent. Carson was terrible, La Jolla was better...so it will be interesting to see how Mission Hills is.

The USA will definitely need the crowd support against such a tough opponent. Chile has a great team and could definitely do some damage, even on grass. Bob and Mike won't underestimate Gonzalez/Massu...they'll come out ready to roll. It's gonna be a tough tie and a tough match for Bob and Mike, but I have the confidence! They're gonna do their job and I think the USA will pull through. :)

Deboogle!.
03-16-2006, 01:26 AM
I think the smaller stadium helped, Carson WAS terrible. La Jolla was better you're right, but the few Romanian fans seemed louder than us sometimes and that was angering. Ah well, we'll see. I think US fans in general just aren't as loud and well, obnoxious? :p

Anyway we'll have to exchange phone #s or something before so we can be sure to meet up:)

Yep, it's been a long time... I think I'm getting tickets as soon as the draw is out only cos you have to get tickets for either court 1 or 2 :( That's what I did last year and the year before and it worked well. Will you be there for the whole week? I planned, but now I'm leaving for the US on 26 May (my sister and I couldn't find any other date apart from something like a Christmas shopping trip ... I'll also miss out the Halle tournament  ). Will only be at the WTC the first weekend cos I get off work three weeks afterwards already. I might be there on the 25th cos that's a bank holiday. However, our flight leaves at 7 the next morning so I don't think I'll stay there that long. If all of you girls are there I just have to go though! ;)

Yes it was a good win, but they were playing the "B" team  So the top two players could rest up for Andy and James. And now the pressure is on Andy and James because now one of them has to win or the U.S. is out of the Davis Cup

We blame Bob and Mike for winning so fast that we had the whole afternoon free and we went to the Outlet Mall and spent too much money  :p

Nah, it was fun to see the guys play so well, I don't think i've seen three sets - doubles on grass or otherwise - that lasted barely over an hour  Yeah they were playing the B-Team, but they still came out totally pumped up, full of energy, and ready to play. They could've taken their foot off the gas a little and saved up or something but they didn't, and that's what makes champions :D Anyway I took a bunch of pics so I'll try to get those up soon!

Yeah, Bob and Mike really did play awesome. And Deb...we didn't meet up! I totally forgot you were going to be there! MAN...next time for sure! I don't know if Bob and Mike were disappointed to be playing the "B" team, as it made for a sure point...which is all they care about in Davis Cup. I was definitely disappointed though...Gonzalez/Massu would have been an extremely tough match, but it would have been very exciting to watch!

Oh well, at least they got the point...I certainly would have liked a bit longer of a match though. I also took lots of pics, so hopefully they'll be up on bobandmike.com soon. I have to catch up on my sleep first though. We got home at 5am on Monday morning and went straight to work! lol

Oh, by the way, Andy played awesome on Sunday to clinch the tie. Fernando totally lost his cool over some rowdy Chilean fans (who for some reason felt the need to scream right as we was going to serve) and over a couple really close line calls. Don't know if the calls were right, but he totally lost it and in doing so, lost the match. Andy had his hands full before that, but he toughed it out and played really really well to win that match. Way to go Team USA! Now they'll travel to Russia for the semifinals...another tough tie.

I know :( I realized we didn't exchange contact info when I saw people walking around with the Bryans Bunch shirts - chances are we passed each other at some point too :( Next time, for sure :) But glad you guys had fun too! :D
