Welcome.

And I wouldn't believe the poster over there to be really Jim. There are posters whose usernames are Pam Shriver, Billie Jean King, etc.

Supposedly Martina Navratilova said that he was on air a couple years ago. But, once again, does it matter?

They have to start anew. ;)

Hello Tinkerbell!

It's refreshing to see someone who has both Safin and Roddick as favorites. :)

Why is it that we do not have funny aliases here like wtaworld?

J. Corwin

You can always start some if you want to I suppose.

And I agree with Star. A fan of Safin and Roddick...don't see that too often around these parts. :)

Well, I'm a non-fan of both Safin and Roddick - is that particularly rare around here, I wonder?

J. Corwin

I'm sure you can do research on that buddy.

hmmmm........ I don't know. Probably not as rare as a Safin-Roddick fan. :)

I hate to disappoint, Sjengster. I know how you like to be unique.

hi tinkerbell!
it seems like all the players are gay in the off-season ;)

No, it is not rare.
I am a non fan of Both Safin and Roddick too.

There you go, Lurker disproved my theory instantly. Still, we both like Federer and Gaudio so there's an obvious similarity. Very few people, I'll bet, share my enthusiastic support of Schalken though. And even fewer share my support of Krajicek, for a very good reason... hmm, maybe it is time I updated my signature a little...

...but considering that he isn't even an active player anymore, 'tis a little foolish to support him so openly in my signature. That was kind of my point. ;)

Richard has always been a favorite of mine. And you may have noticed that I am one of the few cheering for Sjeng. Until I ran across you, I thought I was the only non-netherlander supporting Sjeng. :)

Plus the Netherlands is my DC cup favorite right after Sweden. :)

Richard is a good tournament director now and is bringing some of my faves to Rotterdam, so he's still liked ;)

So I guess there's no player of whom I am a truly unique supporter... ;) Good job too actually, with his end of year results Schalken needs all the support he can get at the moment. Plus Australia is easily his worst Slam. :(

The safinettes left when atpworld went down, but there are still more fans of Marat then of Sjeng ;)

Well you have to admit, considering that she is a woman Schalken's wife has an awfully masculine name (OK, it may well be common in other parts of the world, but I've never heard of any woman round my neck of the woods called Ricky). What am I trying to suggest? I don't know... and a good thing too, I suspect.

Ricki Lake, talkshow host ;)

But I guess you have kept your nose in the books too much lately to see her on tv ;)

Sjengster
12-06-2003, 11:20 PM
No, I've heard of her (haven't seen that show for ages though, it's hardly my cup of tea), but that is spelt Ricki, not Ricky - which I'm sure is how you spell Mrs. Schalken's first name. Just a little odd, I thought.

There's a Ricky...... somebody..... singer. blond. cross between Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell.

Darn.... I'll have to do a search. I want to say Jones, but I'm not sure that is right.

Rickie Lee Jones

J. Corwin
12-06-2003, 11:32 PM
I almost thought you were gonna say Ricky Martin, when you spelled it "Ricky" and said singer, blonde (ok kinda)...

In the movie Veronic Guerin, there is a young Irish street singer singing The Fields of Athenry. I love his version. He's got a strong voice, a lisp, and sings acapella. They recorded him on the street and then placed an orchestra around him. The composer just heard him singing on the street. He couldn't even see him. He tracked him down over a period of months and finally recorded him.

Yes I see what you mean, but bear in mind that's a Rickie, not Ricky... I don't even know why I'm taking this so seriously. Anyhow, suffice to say that Schalken is not bi, to the best of my knowledge. Surely such an important fact would have been announced on his official website? (Not that I'd know anyway, what with it being in Dutch and all...)

Well, not to be picky, but are you sure it is Ricky? lol lol lol

But I do think the issue of Sjeng being bi should be the subject of a thread at least.

Sjengster

I'm sure, I read it on the ATP's official website. Which means it MUST be right...

Yes, it could be an interesting if somewhat short-lived thread, but it would be better if this didn't turn into one of those snowballing topics where everyone starts another variation on the theme just for the hell of it. I remember over on WTAWorld someone once started a thread, "What kind of a name is player X?", to which I put my own, "What kind of a name is player Y?" (I genuinely wanted an answer, BTW) and within ten minutes there were over half a dozen threads with the same title that had sprung up referring to different players. Bloody hilarious, eh? No.

The secret, of course, is knowing when to stop. I think I got away with my satirical thread, but when people start posting "Is Lleyton Hewitt gay?" or "Is Roger Federer gay?" (sure, we know Lundgren and Mirka Vavrinec are courtside at his matches, but who's that mean-looking balding guy who sits alongside them, hmm?), then we know it has gone too far. The suggestion that Agassi is gay is quite the most hilarious thing I've heard in a long while, unless Steffi is so cold in public because she's just playing her part in a sham marriage as a surrogate mother to deliver children for him to raise with his secret gay lover, coach Darren "killer" Cahill (Andre: "He's certainly a killer in the sack, if you know what I mean!"). Plausible hypothesis, surely?

J. Corwin

Well lucky you for getting away with it. ;)
