David has a sexy draw. The only problems he could face are Ginepri in the second, and Safin/Niemenin in the Semis.

This is, of course, assuming that they all make it that far.

I agree with Julio. Put it this way, it could've been alot worse for Nalbo.
It will be great to see him back playing, and I'll be happy just as long as he comes through his matches injury free.

Actually the IW draw has changed a bit, David's segment looks now like this:

(4) NALBANDIAN, David ARG v Bye
Qualifier v LOPEZ, Feliciano ESP
Qualifier v DJOKOVIC, Novak SCG
Bye v (29) CHELA, Juan Ignacio ARG
(17) GINEPRI, Robby USA v Bye
MOODIE, Wesley RSA v SRICHAPHAN, Paradorn THA
SPADEA, Vincent USA v BERLOCQ, Carlos ARG
Bye v (14) FERRERO, Juan Carlos ESP

If David advances through his tough opening encounter with Bye, he'd be most likely up next against Lopez and Chela. Lopez is a character I'm not particularly concerned of but he is always a threat on hard courts. Also, Chela looked very impressive at Australian Open. He'll be a much tougher opponent than Mathieu (from the earlier draw).

4th round might as well be against almost anyone from that bracket. All of them very beatable.

It's a decent draw, could be better, could be far worse. Anything without facing Safin in the first rounds is most welcome.

sigmagirl91
03-08-2006, 03:31 PM
Yeah....David is going to have a tough time with bye.

Was reading a statement by some guy from the DN forums.

"David is at a new atmosphere since the Fall of 2005.
The only thing he has to do is show up on the court as that unbeatable figure, and showing exactly that to his opponents... If he can do that he will WIN this tourney..."

I couldn't have said it better myself.
All he has to do is show up with that Masters Cup confidence, and IW is as good as won.

There's a curious fact about this tournament: Over the past four years, the winner of the TMC also wins IW. Why should this year be any different? ;)
Also, David and Agustín will be playing doubles to practice for the DC.

Looking at the scoreboard, we say "yeah, it was easy", but it wasn't. David lost his serve twice and was down 3-1 in the second before railing off 5 of the last 6 games to take the match. Hopefully, David will put in a better performance today.

Well done, David!!! He started the match really very nervous and often arguing for the line calls. In fact both players weren't happy with some decisions of the linesmen. JB was running like crazy to get the balls back and David always needed just another stroke to finish the point. Some of his shots were very close indeed to the lines. But he kept targeting them. The second set was much tighter than the score suggests and it's superb that he finally won the match without more than the usual complications.
Keep it that way and better!!! Vamos!!!

Tiff, (this even makes me laugh, okay just a bit) but we both know how stuborn David is to look up to someone, especially that someone being Roger. It is sad, because he should, that would be good for him.

I'm not saying "kiss Roger's feet"-no way do I mean that. Instead, he should do well to consider his example. David cannot afford to keep carrying a semi-macho attitude in his matches and career; otherwise, I think it's career suicide at the very worst.

It's really very sad that David lost his match, especially the manner in which he did it. He allowed his frustration to come on top and couldn't focus from then on. But let be positive and compare his results to these of last year same time. I think that so far he is doing better, his ranking position is better and let's hope he'll improve his game and stay injury free. After all he is in the top ten for fourth year now, so he is consistent, but maybe not enough as would have we liked. He has room to get better result than the last year in the coming master series events so it's up to him to show what he is capable of. We believe in him, hope he has the belief and confidence too and he wants it!!!

I was so tired last night that Nalbo losing was the last thing on my mind.
Granted it wasn't a good performance apart from the first set, but it was his first tourney since the Aussie Open. I don't think he's the kind of player who can just find his groove straight away. By all accounts he hadn't been playing that well and struggling to hold serve alot more than usual. Having said that I still expected him to beat Srich and alot of credit has to go to him.
If he's still losing like that in a few months time, then it becomes a concern.

Yeah of course it's his first tournament since the AO, but it's nearly "always" like that. I mean if he always needs so much time to get back to the game...well then he's just to slow...he can't afford to use so much time like that. Cause the rest of the players are just going to move on!
