Nico has confidence now-he'll be fine. :) And he has some time to practice on hard courts so that should help.

Good Luck Nico - I'm sure he will be fine :) And as there are so many  faces here on this thread - I thought I would cheer you all up! Last night I dreamt of Nico.......................and he won Wimbledon (both singles and doubles) :) And guess what he did to celebrate this great achievement................yes - he married NicoFan :p When I woke up I was still smiling - I am sure Lynn might smile at the thought too!!

OMG! :haha: What an awesome dream!!! :woohoo:

Shoot...he doesn't even have to win doubles in Wimbledon - we won't be greedy. Just singles is fine, and then marrying me is better than great!!!!!! ;)

And we're not sad - except for Fergie, we just don't like hardcourts. Yuck.

We're very happy for our Nico's success in South America!

btw like I don't know where else to putt this, I had to do it here. Rosie, Elea and Lovely, I need your email addresses. Don't worry nothing bad ha ha! is just to share my pics, well if you like to see them, most of them are Nico's of course but there're a couple of Gaston and another from Juan, so just let me know in a PM or maybe it'd be better if you send them to my email (MTF is causing me troubles once in a while)

 Kid!

What I was trying to say in that last paragraph was that when I bought something, say it was 15 euros and 17 cents. Well, I didn't know the money very well. So what I would do was just show them all the money I had, and then let them take whatever was necessary to pay for whatever I was buying.

now I just don't know 'cause I went to check your posts and I didn't understand the last paragraph that you wrote in spanish and english  well maybe it's that my brain is still trying to recover himself from the last week in Acapulco :haha:

This just sucks. Poor Nico.

Last year poor Fernando got stuck with Roger all the time, and now its Nico.

I just hope he beats Calleri - it made me crazy last fall when when Nico lost to him when I know that Nico is a much better player.

So VAMOS NICO in the first round! :boxing:

NicoFan
03-07-2006, 11:36 PM
I must be honest too - I'm not as upset as I usually would be. I didn't expect much at IW anyway.

It takes Nico a couple weeks to get used to hardcourts.

I would rather have him lose to Roger in the 2nd round than someone he shouldn't lose to just because he's not ready yet.

And he'll really push playing Roger - kind of like playing Fernando at Vina and Carlos at Buenos Aires - can get him match ready on hardcourts faster.

Have to look at the silver lining in everything. ;)

Crap draw for the Chileans... Xp ...anyway, buena suerte a todos!!!

kidnicky
03-08-2006, 12:03 AM
well I'm not upset NicoFan, just surprised of our bad luck  and please shhhs!!! about that Nico could be stuck with Roger all the time just as Feña the last year.

And I really hope that he can beat Calleri in the first round, that would be good for him and I was thinking about what he said that right now the other playes would say "oh no! I've to play this guy??" ... I'm not expecting that much because like you said it take a little while to get used to the hard courts but I'm pretty sure that he can give some pain in the butt to most of the top players :p

Also like you said, I preffer that he lose against Roger instead of a nobody like the last year, so VAMOS NICO!!!!!! you can win the first round!! :fiery:

BTW if he plays Roger, I'll have the freacking match on TV  .... and the chico always have some extra power for the top players :p

And I preffer this instead of having the chilean press behind him if he'd have had the side of the draw that Feña's got, because he can face some of the potential players of the US DC team, you know that they'd be saying "this could be an anticipated test for Nicolas Massu" and crap like that

NicoFan
03-08-2006, 12:15 AM
I'll probably get teh match too!

Yeah, Fernando has it rough. Lots of pressure on him - one, because its masters series, and two, people will look at it as a preview of Chile-US DC.

But I hope he doesn't look at it that way. He's had shoulder and wrist problems. All he should care about is seeing how he feels physically, get back into playing again, and do the best he can.

I doubt he'd lose to Dent - Taylor isn't playing well. But James will be difficult (but I think very doable if Fernando is feeling well). But even if he loses to James, for me its not a preview - two different surfaces, two different events. So hopefully the press won't be giving Fernando sh*t like they usually do.

kidnicky
03-08-2006, 12:30 AM
You're so right NicoFan! And hopefully Fernando won't take it in that way, but you know how annoying can be the chilean press when they want ... Actually they already have on their websites that Roger is waiting for Nico  and in small letters they have that Nico has to beat Calleri first ... thank God that the guys are not in Chile and hopefully they have blocked the chilean sites on their laptops :p

Anyway VAMOS NICO!!!! BUENA SUERTE SWEETIE!!!! :rocker2:

GonzoFan
03-08-2006, 01:09 AM
What a bad draw for Nico ...

Let's hope he'll beat Calleri and then play a great match with Federer

As NicoFan and Kidnicky said is better if he loses to Federer than to an unknown player

Buena suerte !!!!!

NicoFan
03-08-2006, 02:37 AM
Kid - I saw that too! I was like what the heck? Of course, all I can think about is Roger - not Calleri! :haha:

I know it won't happen - but wouldn't it be soooooooooooooooo cool if Nico could somehow beat Roger? I watched the Roger/Rafa match, and Roger had a couple bad games. Its a very long shot, but well, I have to hope. ;)

I just hope that its a little close. If its one-sided our poor Nico will be so sad.

I feel bad for him here - having to face Roger - quelle nightmare for our sweetie. He's been working so hard and playing so well. Hopefully he'll just go in there and figure, what the heck, go for it. And whatever happens, happens.

Nico...love ya no matter what happens.

03-08-2006, 04:53 AM
Well, you guys have pretty much said it all. I was like in shock but after reading your posts I feel better about it. And the screw ups at IW redid the draw 3x before getting it right! :haha: Fena's draw is better now. He would meet James in the quaterfinals now should he get that far. (fingers crossed for both of them).

And the upside, like you've mentioned, Nico may get on TV if he gets to the 2nd round and Rog. First Agustin though. One match at a time!

And sorry Rosie that Juan withdrew. And yes, I hate IW too - and Miami really so don't know why I'm going the 2nd year in a row there in person. Well the tournament is nice but Nico doesn't do well there and neither did Fernando last year.

I'm better now, Nico has to beat Calleri no matter what and then just enjoy and give a good match against Roger, but I'm trying to stop thinking about Roger and beign focus about Calleri so VAMOS NICO!!!!! :fiery:

And good to know that Feña got a better draw, at least the chilean press will leave him alone until the qf's :p

I guess that Nico is taking this draw better than us  I mean he knew that he'd have this kind of draws and hey, playing against the number 1 in the world shouldn't be a nightmare, you've to take advantage of that oportunity, anyway I'm rumbling here

So I think I am the ony person happy with the schedule change! Our TV has full interractive coverge of the Indian Wells tournament starting today - so you can imagine how mad I was when Nico and Agustin were meant to play yesterday :p But now of course I will be able to watch them :) Second match on in Indian Wells is about 8.30pm here - so ideal Saturday night entertainment. But I am sooooo mad that Nico keeps on drawing my favourites - first Juan Mónaco - now Agustin :bigcry: - I've started to feel guilty coming here :o Just hope it is a good match . We didn' see any of the South American touneys here (European TV just doesn't cover any of them, we get Dubai and Rotterdam instead  ) - so I am desparate to see my boys live again! Bye for now :wavey:

Btw - a bit off topic, but how do you guys feel now that Gaby Markus is coaching Carlos Berlocq as well? Don't you think it would be better for Nico that Gaby only looks after him?

You are soooo lucky Rosie!!! Good for you that you can see Nico's and Agustin's match! We have all day coverage but only of center court. I guess its better than nothing.

Of course they are calling for rain again - but I haven't checked the Weather Channel this morning yet - maybe there's been a miracle and the rain disappeared. I really hope so - tough for the players to have to wait around all day - tough for us because its one of the few days of all day coverage.

And it does suck when favorites play together. It seems to happen a lot lately too.

About the coaching situation - first, I'm laughing because I was thinking the same thing this morning! I don't like it at all that he's coaching Berlocq as well, but it just seems like something the LA coaches do. Like Horacio - he coaches a zillion players (which I hate also). I know that even at the US Open last year, I saw Gaby coaching a couple other players (I had no clue who they were).

Nico seems really really happy with Gaby though so as long as he's happy then I guess everything is still working fine. And since he's listening to Gaby and not giving him a hard time like he did the first time they were together, I would assume Gaby is happy with Nico too.

I hope Nico and Gaby stay together for the rest of his career. Gaby... :worship:

Weather update - looks like its just cloudy in IW.

But its cold - 46 degrees right now!

Strange - its 60 degrees today here in NY when its usually in the 40's this time of year, but in IW where its usually warm weather in the desert, its cold. Go figure. Maybe they should have had the tournament here at the US Open grounds. ;) Its warmer!

and you'd be very sad about having IW in the USO courts right NicoFan?? :p anyway it seems that this match will never start, there's only one match right now on IW live tickers and it says "rain stopped play" so is it raining again or the stupid score board is frozen??? God!!! now I'm completely losing my hopes to follow Nico's match

You're so lucky Rosie!! that at least you'll know what's going on!! oh I hate this!!! ESPN has some coverage in the afternoon but it's not at the suposse time of Nico's but with the weather I actually don't know what would happen

Poor Nico!!! and poor us that are here waiting for the freaking match!!! ahhh! :bigcry:

Anyway good luck to Nico :bounce: and about Gaby coaching Berlocq I knew that when I saw Nico practicing with him but Gaby was with Nico all the time, during their match and during practice, after finishing the practice Gaby went with Berlocq and like NicoFan said, Nico is really happy with him and Gaby is too, they're working a lot and Nico is actually listening to him, my only desire is like the one from NicoFan, that they stay together for the rest of Nico's career!! :yeah:

It is definitely raining over there in IW  Our TV was showing Rusedski v Wawrinka but it was delayed for an hour and then rain stopped play again after the 1st set. They say the forecast is bad today and later matches such as Murray/Davydenko have absolutely no chance of getting on court. I think Nico and Agustin will play tonight but it will be a long and frustrating affair  Btw - it is well below freezing here so 46 degrees F sounds positively tropical to me :p

NICO WON! :bounce:

But can't say it was an enjoyable match.

He was serving for the match in the 2nd set up a break 5*-4 and got tight and ended up losing his serve and then the tiebreak.

In the 3rd set he was down TWO breaks 3-0 before he came back to win it.

And the scoreboard in the 3rd set showed 6-4 Nico that Nico broke Calleri's serve and he won the match. But really he didn't. So we were all wooo hoo'ing and then saw the points moving again. We didn't know what was going on - but in the end Nico did break Calleri to win.

He got the win though and that's all that counts.

And next....Roger.

N Massu (CHI) d Agustin Calleri (ARG) 61 57 76(10)...this is the right score!

"Chilean golden boy Nicolas Massu displayed the tenacity fitting of an Olympic champion, putting together a thrilling comeback Saturday afternoon before the overflow of spectators tightly-packed around Court 5 and peering down from the stands in Stadium 2.

Massu entered the first-round tie with a three-match losing streak to Argentine Agustin Calleri, and appeared to be on the way to a fourth consecutive loss. The Chilean fell behind 5-2 in the third set, and needed to save serve four times in the eighth game to keep the match alive.

The reigning Olympic gold medalist pushed the match to the decisive tie-break, where he and Calleri delighted fans as both saved match point after match point. Massu finally closed out the match, 12-10, in the decider - just in time to be greeted by celebratory rain drops that forced the postponement of Saturday's remaining matches.

Massu's victory came wrapped with a second-round date with World No. 1 Roger Federer. He faces off against the two-time defending champion on Center Court in Sunday's evening session."

No, it was the scoreboard not your browser.

Twice, they reported Nico as winning on the scoreboard when he didn't.

Most people missed it, but in the 2nd set, Nico was up a break 5-3 with Calleri serving. Nico had a bp - next thing they show Nico winning 6-3 - I wrote a post that he won but decided to check again - it was corrected to 5-4 with Nico serving for the match.

Then in the third, they had Nico winning 6-4 so we were all whoo hoo'ing his win. Next thing we know, the points are moving again so we didn't know what to think. Finally they corrected the score.

And now this article in IW saying that he went to a tiebreak in the 3rd set when the scoreboard and results still show he won 7-5. And also they have in the article that Calleri was leading in the 3rd 5-2 - well the scoreboard had shown that Nico was down two breaks 0-3, and came back to tie it 3-3.

So who knows what the real score?

And really what gives IW? :(

They couldn't get the draw right, and now this with the score. Its a masters series event - they need to conduct their business like one.

But that's just my humble opinioin. ;)

This is so strange - the second set score is definitely wrong becuase that went to a tiebreak.

Who knows...as long as he won I guess that's what counts but this pisses me off that IW can't get anything right.

I look on the scoreboard second set...Nico leads 5:3 and having matchpoint, Calleri breaks back and win tiebreak 7:5. I don´t know!! Today I read the score 6:1 5:7 7:6...crazy!!

And now against Roger...it´s easy to win!

OMG it's a day after Nico's match and we still don't know the correct score  the only thing that we can do is laugh about this MS, can you believe that this is actually a MS event??

And about today, I'm just possitive and I know that Nico will do his best and will give Roger at least a little bit of trouble, besides I know that our boy loses his mind against the top players, but in a good way, I mean the guy plays just like if that would be his last match, just remember the olympics, the match against Andy in Hamburg and the match against Carlos is BAires soo

BUENA SUERTE NICO VAMOOOOS!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!! JUST FIGHT!!!!! :fiery:

And I have to say that I'll support him no matter what and that everyday I'm more proud to be his fan... Love ya Nico!!!!

Nico lost 6-3, 7-6 (4).

But Nico did us all very proud. He played excellent in that 2nd set. Never gave up, kept fighting. I couldn't have asked anymore of him than what he did.

And I think that he can learn a bit from the match - what he needs to work on on hardcourts.

Roger of course played like the champion he is - had a bit of trouble in the 2nd set but played the crucial points perfectly. That's why he's #1.

PROUD OF YOU NICO! Great match!!!! :bigclap:

I'm sorry that Nico had to lose to Rogi and altho I didn't see this competitive match, it sounds like Nico played well enough to challenge Rogi! Well done to him -- I w like to see this one -- I imagine they both played well?

I sure hope the Chilenos can have better results in Miami... it's sad to see them both lose in their first match.

Well, Rogi certainly showed his human side [which I see all the time -- he is NOT perfect as some Fedhaters want him to be] vs. Rafa in Dubai Final. :p and vs. Nalby in Shanghai...

Obviously Rog is not my favorite but I can see why his fans do adore him. He is so beautiful on court and he is a good sportsman. But he is human too and I have to admit that I did get some pleasure  Nico could upset him.

And Nico!!! I dont' think I ever felt this good about a loss of his  Since we were all realistic about the outcome he made a very good showing in the 2nd set. I'm very proud of him. :inlove:

hey! don't hate me don't hate me! I didn't abandon you or Nico lol! is just that I had another advantage tonight for beign latin and I had Nico's match live on tv whoo hoo!!!! so can you imagine me all histerical trying to be at home by the time and it was so gret to see that match, let me tell you NicoFan that I just don't know how you handle watching so many of our boy matches ha ha! when I saw him I almost started to cry again :sobbing: (yes almost 2 weeks and I'm still the same) and then the match, OMG !!! like NicoBug said OUR BOY MADE US PROUD!!!! :bounce: I can't be mad, I can't be sad 'cause we all know and I actually understand know why Federer is the number 1 in the world, I mean, like Zabaleta said once, he's playing other sport lol!!

The first set was okay, just a break but I didn't see very much of our fighter Nico but I still was thinking that he was doing it okay, but the 2nd set it was really amazing for Nico, I know that he could have done more but I think that he did his best, he played very well, the serve was again what I saw in Acapulco and I almost die of a heart attack LOL!! I screamed a lot and a lot of bad words that I just knew that I said them after screamed them LOL!

I'm so proud of Nico!!! and it was this amazing return by him that even Gaby was surprised and made this sign of Nico of " vamoos!!" I screamed, jumped like crazy and I saw that Nico really apreciated to have the oportunity to face Roger, at the end the hand shacking for Nico was so cool! and to see Nico leaving the court while the people was cheering him and he even said a quick bye with his hand and we know that when Nico is mad or sad he doesn't even think about that lol!!

I've to say again that I'm so proud of my boy!! and I'm even more proud to be his fan!!! he's on his way back and he's fighting and improving a lot every single day so a big big hug for Nico and another one for Gaby!!

I appreciate that we all have our faves -- that's normal and I respect that! In Shanghai, Nalby was playing well -- about his best actually and he deserved to win his first big title -- he just gets SO motivated when he sees Rogi in his path! :p

David does get motivated when he sees Roger.

I like Roger - my only complaint was when he was the only one winning. I just think that's bad for tennis - not good in any sport when one person or team is dominating. Now that Rafa is giving him some competition, I think that's good for the tennis. And would love to see a Rafa-Roger-Marat rivalry. With guys like Nalby or Andy sneaking a win in here or there, or giving them a tough match.

I didn't read Nico's comments - I'll have to check them out. Its one thing I like about Nico - he gives credit where credit is due, and almost always treats opponents with respect. (Coria at the US Open this year one of the few exceptions, but Guille was not behaving well himself).

oh yes I've to read his comments too!!! that is one of the reasons of why Nico is our favourite, 'cause he gives credit to his oponents when they desearve it and he behaves very good with them on court, with that obvious exception at the USO of course but hey! That was one of my favorite matches! And Kid has watched it about 10 times! Lucky you that you saw it in person.

Tommy's a good guy. I always watch his matches when he comes to the US Open. There's always something funny with him there. In 2003, he was all mad at Red after the match because he said Red wasn't coaching him during the match. And the TV commentator said, but Tommy, there's no coaching during matches. And Tommy said - oh well, no, but everyone does it. :haha: Everyone was just cracking up. And then last year, some girl yells from the stands just as Tommy is about to serve - Tommy, I want to have your baby!!! Again, everyone started laughing. At first, it looked like Tommy was going to ignore it, but then you could see his whole body start to shake because he was laughing so hard - which made everyone in the stands laugh more. He had to step away from the service line and get himself together. It was really funny.

He has a regular girlfriend now, but he used to bring all these model type girlfriends to his matches, and they would sit there flipping their hair for the cameras - I used to get a kick out of watching the whole thing.

I like both him and Andre - so just going to watch the match and not root for either - but Andre didn't look match fit last night so I think Tommy will win.

I just watched the Nico-Rogi hilites -- I'm glad they showed Nico's great shots also -- he had the bad luck to run into Rogi in R2... poor him and Fena, always in the No 1's path...

GonzoFan and Kid - I never mind hearing about beautiful eyes or adorable players! I can talk and listen about those things all day. ;)

RogiFan - yes, I hope that neither Nico or Fernando ever meet Roger ever again. At least not until Roger is old and isn't the perfect tennis god anymore.

GonzoFan I think that this thing with the press is a never ending story and although I try like you, not to read all that crap, sometimes you just can't do it and of course that the result is that I'm so damn mad with them!!! so you know that the last year I was fighting with the chilean press all the time

Rogi, I really hope that the boys never ever face Roger, well at least not in the 2nd round  but I'm still so proud of my boy, he played very well and complicated Roger's life at least during the 2nd set :yeah:

NicoFan .... hopefully you'll never get tired of me and listening at every single moment how beautiful Nico is :p

I get mad at the press too - and I know both guys do also. Some of the things they write are unbelievable. The athletes here in the States - especially here in NY where i live - are bad too. I think that's why these guys hide from them and only give them part of the info or give this really rosy picture of things all the time.

Hey TommyB - I saw your Tommy last night against Andre - he looked really good! His new coach though - he must be very good cuz Tommy's kicking butt with him, but he looks kind of tough - not sweet like Red. I miss Red. And the TV commentators were saying that Tommy said he thought of himself as half German, half American because he's lived in Florida since he was a kid. I thought geez the people in Germany won't like that. Also they said he said something like unless you live life doing risky things (like why he drives fast and does skydiving things like that), life isn't fun.

Hey, the Germans already practically disowned Tommy since he "defected" to the USA anyway! They call him "SonnyBoy"!! ;)

that's why I haven't visited any chilean site today, I don't want to freak out today  but a part of me if even better with yesterday's match 'cause I wouldn't know how to handle if the boys would had to face the Bryan's next, they're already saying that that match would be a previous from DC and bla bla bla, so you could imagine if that match would have happened

I saw Tommy too, great match but I'm still insisting that he was really stupid to cut his hair  he really is kicking butt and well about his comments, I better shut up on that :p

Oh poor Tommy  - and it wasn't his fault that he had to come to the US - the German Tennis Federation wouldn't give him any money or be part of their tennis programs. They didn't think he had what it took to be a pro. So his dad had to find the money to send him to Nick's.

I like Tommy's hair long better too Kid - but he's gorgeous so he could shave it all off and he'd still look hot.

Hey NicoFan...i saw the match on scoreboard and highlights today! Our german "SonnyBoy" :) is on his way back. I´m very proud of him!

Red was also a good coach...but i think Haas need a few innovations after 2005.

"the TV commentators were saying that Tommy said he thought of himself as half German, half American because he's lived in Florida since he was a kid."

We have no problems...the statement is all right. Tommy often play his best tennis in America...and he has lot of American fans!

I like his shorter hair. :D

Tommy is pretty much a Florida boy! I kind of think of him as American myself.

I just hope that Nico doesn't get any ideas with all these guys getting shorter hair. I want Nico's hair to stay just the way it is. :yeah:
