Bob Flying Solo (Results/Discussions for Singles play)

02-28-2006, 04:23 AM
Since Bob is spreading his wings and occasionally playing singles, he needs a thread where his results will be easy to find without having to wade through the individual tournament threads.

Good luck this week in Vegas! :bigclap:

Why is it that the Bryans struggle so much playing singles?
Do they not try?

I would have thought with their serving and volleying ability, they could at least get into the top 100. They should be able to do well on grass and indoor carpet, I would have thought.

They don't struggle with singles, they just barely ever play. Mike's had some injury trouble - a couple years ago he was pretty close to having hip surgery and luckily avoided it, so I think he doesn't want the extra stress on his body, and Bob has said several times he wants to focus on doubles. With his serve and volley he'd certainly be a top 100 player, but he's made the decision to stick with doubles and I think it's a good one :) Once in a while he enters qualifying or like Vegas gets a WC but it's very rare if you look at his singles record. If he played more, obviously he'd have better results.

Bob pulled out of Vegas :(
That's too bad. But if his shoulder isn't up to it, he couldn't have had much choice. Are they still in for doubles?

Don't think they've officially pulled out, guess we'll find out when tomorrow's OP Comes out later.

This is kind of confusing to have similar conversation going on in 2 parallel threads

But I've thought this question isn't about Bob's "solo", so I posted it in another thread. ;)

Is he playing any tournaments soon? Cause I've seen him the past few days here at Saddlebrook and he's been drilling without Mike.

When my tennis session ended today, I walked by the court where Bob, James, and some other guy (Christian I believe his name is) were finishing up, and I guess Bob lost a game because he got smacked around his armpit area in butts up. For those who don't know what the heck I'm talking about, it's when you have to face the back of the fence on one side, and the people who beat you in the game you were playing get a free shot at you to peg you as hard as they can. The guys were at the other side right in front of the fence (because he'd be dead if they stood at the service line.) It's so funny watching, but I'm always afraid to play because I know I'd get killlllled.

Okay I'm done. :p

I haven't heard of anything but I suppose it's possible for grass season.... the twins will both be in Charleston next week for an exho with Andy and his brother, so I dunno. Maybe Mike is not feeling great or injured or something (hope not!) or I dunno........

LMFAO at the butts up thing hahahah

Why didn't he play today?

I've never seen or even heard of Mike playing a singles match before. Credit to him for winning 6 games. :haha:

Bob probably figured it was time Mike owed him for the Davis Cup matches he's played :haha:

Who knew Bob was such a baseliner? it's like I'm watching Nadal! :)
He's one of the best volleyers in the world and he's got a big serve but he doesn't serve&volley at all
Maybe he's just having a baseline practice which might be a good idea.
Anyway I really enjoy watching him play singles.
