Bet to win a unit on Berdych
Good to see odds going the right direction for me - got him at 1.485 yesterday when I thought he was playing today...
That final was a blip by the wee one - he barely beat Lisnard rd.1 for crying out loud - I've been waiting for a good opportunity to grab Berdman & this is it.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL WITH YOUR PLAYS!

Hmm... you must be very confident or ... :p

I'll probably end up grabbing Davydenko. He's solid baseliner and very disciplined player. Good all around player with above average marks in all categories. Safin is great at his peak but with no match play, he'll be like JJohansen losing to a nobody.

Okay my two plays for the day:

Berdych to beat C.Rochus @1.55 (medium play)
- Berdych faced tough matches to start 2006 losing to tight matches to dent and stephanek. Both matches could have swung the other way with the right points. Rochus's game shouldn't bother Berdych and Rochus was lucky to get so far last week. Don't really see Rochus getting past Berdych unless he plays like shit.

Davy to beat Safin @1.51 (big play)
- What happen to Pim Pim when he had his come back match last week? He loses to some Stanford USTA nobody! Nadal took some time off too and he almost loses to Oliver Rochus; and eventually loses to Clement. I see the same thing happening to Safin. He is facing a current top 10 player that is very strong outdoors and very strong at the baseline. I just don't see Safin winning this match simply because he will be very rusty and won't be able to keep the ball in play consistently enough at a "top 10 level", and that's what he'll need to do to beat Davydenko!

Since these are early matches hope they both win and I can use the profits of the day for more wins!

I for one wouldn't lump on the donkey until I had his good form confirmed and Safin's come back probs spelled out on the score board. Why doesn't anybody mention Nicky D's choke in the third against Stepanek - the guy completely lost it making some shocking UE compared to how (well) he had played previously in the match. Who says the donkey might not be affected mentally by that crash...?

Give Nicky D a bad start and it'll be very interesting to see how he holds up mentally.

Acapulco (Round 1): Tuesday, February 28, 2006

Filippo Volandri -133 over Alberto Martin ($3990 to win $3000)

***LARGEST WAGER OF YEAR***

This will be my biggest wager of the year for the simple fact that Beto is completely drained. If you all head over to the ATP website this week and read about Jose Acasuso's blogging live from Acapulco, you will read that he talks a lot about how bad the hear was in Costa do Sauipe, Brazil last week and how much the heat really drained him and other players. Acapulco is hot but its bearable unlike the conditions in Brazil last week. Having said that, Volandri is coming off a 2nd Round loss to Vanek where he partially blamed the heat and dehydration for his loss. After all, Volandri was exhausted from his Buenos Aires finals loss the week before to Carlos Moya and the heat was just too much for him to bare in Brasil. Now we are here and Volandri should be fresh enough to make some big time noise in this weird tournament. Alberto Martin on the other hand was one of the lucky ones who made it through the Brasil heat. Beto made it all the way to the finals before losing to crowd favorite Nicolas Massu in straight sets. Both players are very good on the clay courts but Volandri is younger, has more energy and making Beto move is going to really tire out the older Spaniard. Looking back at previous years in Acapulco, Volandri is 6-3 lifetime at this tournament including qualifying rounds. His losses have come versus Moya, Montanes and Zabaleta but that was in Volandri's younger days. Beto on the other hand lost to Volandri here last year under almost the exact same circumstances and has a lifetime record of only 2-3 in Acapulco. This is usually the time of year to fade Martin as the spark in his game is gone and seeing that he has already played so much tennis over the last week or so and that he is getting an early start in this one, I am calling from my buddy Filippo to kick some ass and show me the cash.

Las Vegas (Round 1): Tuesday, February 28, 2006

Mardy Fish -192 over Prakash Amritraj ($1920 to win $1000)

This one looks a little fishy if you know what I mean but I am not concerned. I read a lot about Mardy Fish last week in his blog on the ATP website and he was really looking forward to this tournament and playing someone other than a TOP 10 player. Fish came to Vegas on a private jet with buddy James Blake and is ready to make a full return to the ATP circuit, stating several times that he is happy his injury is not bothering him. Fish is coming off a first round loss to Roddick in Memphis but said he is very happy to be in Vegas because his sister works for the Tennis Channel and he gets to see her for the first time in a long time. Amritraj was impressive in qualifying beating Brian Vahaly to make it here but this is the Main Draw and the young kid from India is has never won a MAIN DRAW match outside of India (Chennai to be precise). I am taking a big risk on Fish who has been out of form lately but from what I hear he feels good and has the tools to compete. Fish is 0-3 right now since coming back from the injury and it's about time he wins his first match already. He was happy to find out he is playing against a qualifier but let me tell you that Mardy better be ready for this tough qualifier. There are no excuses this time of Fish loses this match. However, if Fish is back in form he can win this one in straight sets as he has won 60% of his lifetime hardcourt matches and he should have no problems sending this kid packing.

Jan Hernych +101 over Kristian Pless ($900 to win $909)

First of all...let's all start by giving Jan Hernych a break here. I know he has struggled badly and cost almost all of us some valuable cash this year but when you look at the big picture of things, Hernych is definitely still the better player and the better player on this surface. Hernych is coming off a first round loss to Davydenko in Rotterdam, he failed to make the main draw in Marseille and he does not have a win since the first round of the Australian Open against Fernando Vicente. That's okay. Hernych is 7-13 in his last 20 matches on the ATP hardcourt surface but once again, that's okay because all his opponents were TOP 100 material and Kristian Pless is not. This is quite possibly the one match Hernych needs confidence wise. Kristian Pless has not won an ATP main draw match against a TOP 100 player since October 2002. Since that time, he is 0-9 in versus TOP 100 players. Like I said before, this could be the break Hernych is looking for to get back into the swing of things. Neither player has won that many ATP level matches over the last year but Hernych has played in 30 ATP matches while Pless has played in only 13. With both players having their fair share of struggles, this will most likely come down to Tie Breaks. Hernych is 11-5 in TB's the last twelve months while Pless has struggled and is 14-16. The fact that he has had so many TB's tells me how inconsistent he really is and how much Hernych might have the time and ability to put him on the ropes early. This is a big risk but the odds are just too nice for me to pass up.

What's everyones feeling towards Murray vs Robredo...

Robredo has been on a small slump losing to Capd and Skud but those were indoor events. Robredo is still a fairly consistent player and usually performs pretty well throughout the year. Murray had a good run 2 weeks ago but from what I saw last week Murray had lots of issues making first serves.. And when his first serve percentage for a set got down to 20-30%, he would lose the set 6-1 type score...

Maybe too risky to bet on.
