Tennis Tipping #11 - Dubai

Welcome to Tennis Tipping Dubai!

What is Tennis Tipping?

In the game, participants pick the winners of all main draw matches and are placed in a knock-out system. That means each participant plays a different participants and whoever predicted the winner of most matches correctly, moves on to the next round. The same applies for doubles, but you're in a team format and your scores are combined.

The Number Of Participants Per Round:

SINGLES:

Day 1 - 32 Players
Remainder of R32 - 16 Players
R16 - 8 Players
QF - 4 Players
SF + F - 2 Players

DOUBLES:

R32 - 16 Teams
R16 - 8 Teams
QF - 4 Teams
SF + F - 2 Teams

Note:

- In case of a tie, a tie-breaker match for which the score (as opposed to just the winner) is given, will decide who moves on to the next round. For all participants, this tie-breaker match is the same and will be assigned beforehand.
- In case a player (i.e. the actual ATP Player) retires in a match, this match will be cancelled and not taken into consideration when calculating the number of correct picks. If players are replaced by a lucky loser after the start of Tennis Tipping, these matches will also be cancelled.

How to Sign-Up:

Just post here that you would like to play. :)
You can only play one tournament per week.
You must commit before the designated time. For this tournament, that time is 9:00PM Sunday in Melbourne.
For help with timezones, use this - www.timeanddate.com/worldclock.

Maximum Players for this tournament: 32
Maximum Doubles Teams for this tournament: 16

Entries into a tournament are based on a first-come, first-in basis.

How to send in picks:

Picks can be sent in as soon as all qualifiers have been placed. Remember, you pick a winner in every match! Picks should be sent by PM, so that your opponent does not know your picks. Picks should be titled: TT: [tournament, day #]. Picks can be sent in anytime until the beginning of play each day. Because of the chances of 1st and 2nd Round matches being played on the same day, you should send in tips each day, even if you're not sure if you've made the next round. If you're still in both singles & doubles, you use the same tips for both. For doubles, you still tip the ATP singles matches, not the doubles! No changes can be made.

Good Luck! :wavey:

I'm running this tournament now instead of Deccy! Hopefully I can do a good job as a manager in my first tournament. :wavey:

It was easier to start a new thread, when the manager changed in the last minute. All the previous commitments stay the same, no need to recommit!

There are 2 places still left in the singles! And 5 teams in the doubles!

El Guero, sorrowman, The Safinator, SaFed2005, HIM, tiptopdaisy, Buddy and Nathaliia!

Why don't you make 4 teams like:

El guero/sorrowman, TheSafinator/SaFed2005 HIM/tiptopdaisy and Buddy/Nathaliia

Anyone have problems with this pairing? :p :wavey:

It is because it's my first tournament and I don't want to let anybody down! Plus I might withdraw because I still finally haven't made my mind up if to go to Wolfsburg or not, so why should anyone suffer.
We are teamed with Ville (Labamba) to play doubles in Sopot in August!

The deadline for commitments closes in about 10 hours time. There is still room for new players in both singles and doubles! :wavey:

The MTF Draws will be out on Sunday 12 PM CET.

Due to the changes made in the TT format to accommodate 32 players in the singles draw and 16 teams in the doubles, there are a few changes in the schedule of the game:

Here are the tentative schedules for TT singles and doubles (changes possible until I see the OOP for Day1):

TT Singles:
1R = 1st round matches played on Day 1
2R = Remainder of 1st round matches
QF = 2nd round matches
SF = QF matches
F = SF matches + Final

TT Doubles:
1R = all 1st round matches
QF = 2nd round matches
SF = QF matches
F = SF matches + Final

Does anyone know what time of day Dubai time the matches will start on Monday? Will it still be noon like the qualifiers? I'm not going to get home from work until about half an hour before that tomorrow so if it's any earlier I'm going to have a lot of trouble getting my tips in!

Also, another small thing.... I'm actually Australian and had a British flag up for a little while ;) Can I please represent Australia :)

Order of play is not out yet for Monday, but I think noon is a good guess for the starting time. It should be published quite soon though...

You can send me your tips for all the matches that are known so far, but I can't make a decision about the tiebreaker until I see the oop.

Yeah, I know what you mean. This is a difficult question, because we don't have any clear rules as what to do in these kind of situations. :shrug: I'm just following Deccy's example here, who is after all the founder of this game here in MTF.

Just for reference in the first few tournaments when someone did not enter there picks, Deccy always used a lucky loser for each round. You can go check if you like.

Last week in Rotterdam Deccy didn't use any lucky losers after the first round, so this is a bit confusing. :(

I will make a decision here, if it's ok for el güero, I'm letting Nimrodg in as a lucky loser. I think it's the fairest thing to do here. :wavey:

It's unfortunate when people win by ranking but it is used as a last resort. In later rounds we can use countback first in the event of a tie but in the first round I can't see another way. It shouldn't happen too often, it's just unfortunate that it happened 3 times in this tournament. If anyone's got any othe ideas, please post them in the suggestions thread.

We should make a poll about this question in TT forum. I didn't like to make this decision, but it was one that had to be made. Getting two walkovers in a row wouldn't be good for the game in my opinion.

Yes, I've just noticed that from the tips you sent me - to be honest I'm not sure if you can do this :shrug: although it sounds like a good tactic. If i'm not mistaken JMG qualified - Even if we picked differently in Phau-Schuettler, I believe that he picked Federer and in a TB he wins

Looks like we're definitely out of the doubles Sam - can't imagine anyone went aginst Federer which would mean the best we could hope for is a tiebreak and as our opponents obviously both picked Youzhny and we picked Rochus we'd lose on that.

:eek: Labamba and _pyromatic were level on scores, tiebreak and countback for the previous round. The next criteria I used was the TB score for the previous round.

The next thing I could have used was countback for the round before that. Either way, Labamba (CB06:05, TB 20:08) would have won so it's not a problem this time but this may be another thing that we need a set rule for.

What was that? I can't believe we don't have a point in the tiebreaker. I behave like Kiefer in finals. :(

But the next try is next week, and I've found a good doubles partner again! :)

Just like you, I can´t believe that we weren´t able to score at least one point in the tiebreaker. It was still a great week for us. Reaching the final is a good achievement.

Congrats to the winners! Well done!

You're right - I just rechecked your tb score and you should have had 9 - infact I don't know what happened yesterday as a couple of the other scores were slightly wrong. The results still stay the same though, but here are the amended scores for completeness.
