Tennis Tipping #12 - Acapulco

Welcome to Tennis Tipping Acapulco!

What is Tennis Tipping?

In the game, participants pick the winners of all main draw matches and are placed in a knock-out system. That means each participant plays a different participants and whoever predicted the winner of most matches correctly, moves on to the next round. The same applies for doubles, but you're in a team format and your scores are combined.

The Number Of Participants Per Round:

SINGLES:

Day 1 - 32 Players
Day 2 - 16 Players
R16 - 8 Players
QF - 4 Players
SF + F - 2 Players

DOUBLES:

R32 - 16 Teams
R16 - 8 Teams
QF - 4 Teams
SF + F - 2 Teams

Note:

- In case of a tie, a tie-breaker match for which the score (as opposed to just the winner) is given, will decide who moves on to the next round. For all participants, this tie-breaker match is the same and will be assigned beforehand.
- In case a player (i.e. the actual ATP Player) retires in a match, this match will be cancelled and not taken into consideration when calculating the number of correct picks. If players are replaced by a lucky loser after the start of Tennis Tipping, these matches will also be cancelled.

How to Sign-Up:

Just post here that you would like to play. :)
You can only play one tournament per week.
You must commit before the designated time. For this tournament, that time is 10:00AM Sunday in London.
For help with timezones, use this - www.timeanddate.com/worldclock (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock).

Maximum Players for this tournament: 32
Maximum Doubles Teams for this tournament: 16

Currently, entries into a tournament are based on a first-come, first-in basis.

How to send in picks:

Picks can be sent in as soon as all qualifiers have been placed. Remember, you pick a winner in every match! Picks should be sent by PM, so that your opponent does not know your picks. Picks should be titled: TT: [tournament, day #]. Picks can be sent in anytime until the beginning of play each day. Because of the chances of 1st and 2nd Round matches being played on the same day, you should send in tips each day, even if you're not sure if you've made the next round. If you're still in both singles & doubles, you use the same tips for both. For doubles, you still tip the ATP singles matches, not the doubles! No changes can be made.

Good Luck! :wavey:

Also, I'd like to point out three major changes we've made, which is different from the past tournaments, for those who're not aware of the changes in writing in the introduction post.

1. There're now 32 available Singles spots to accommodate the increasing popularity of this game, and 16 Doubles teams.

2. For the entry spots, we've changed from 'ranking priority-basis' to 'First come-First in basis'. Which simply means the first 32 players who commit first, will be guaranteed a spot in this game. If you're late, and the spots are filled, then no matter what your previous ranking in this game is, you'd have to wait as an ALT or commit to other current tournaments. But hopefully, there'll be no need for that, since that's the reason why we've increased the numbers of players to 32.

3. In the First round, there have been a split into Day1 and Day2 tips. Day1 would also include any qualification matches which will be played on the day, therefore it is very important to check the schedule of each day carefully. Day2 tips will include the rest of the first round matches that have not been played.

For your benefits, please ensure that you understand the rules prior the game start by reading the Introduction post or asking the TT Managers for more information.

Thank you very much.

Hi everyone,

Looking through the entries for this week Dubai has 31, Acapulco has 18 and Las Vegas only 10. I will be making the draw tomorrow and at the moment the first round will have only 2 matches and 14 byes. I was just wondering if anyone was interested in switching their commitment to Las Vegas to balance things out a bit - there's no pressure to do so and I'm happy either way, just thought I'd make people aware and give you the option :)

Sorry, I don't want to change to Las Vegas. I'll be completing Latin America swing, and my clay court playing is being great.

I have a question: can I send results of all matches of first round and two scores? I don't know if I'll be here on Tuesday. If it's played in old format, it won't be necessary, but this doubt can be cleared for next tournaments.

Yes, you can send results for all first round matches in advance and I'll just take the ones that I need. At the moment it looks like only 2 players will pick monday's matches with everyone else having a bye until Tuesday.

Just so I'm understanding this, even if we have the first round bye, we're still sending in first round picks for countback?

If you have first round bye, you start playing from day 2. Day 1 is for the 2 people in the first round, round 2 of Tennis tipping equals the remainder of Round 1 matches.

So yes, send your day 1 picks but they will only be used for countback so really it's up to you if you want to send them - it's probably weasier for you to send all round 1 scores in - that way you don't have to check the OOP.

Taz Warrior
02-27-2006, 07:40 AM
I've updated the front sheet with the tiebreak matches - there will be 2 for the first round. One for Day 1 matches (Serra vs Marin) and another for the remainder of first round matches (Calleri vs Lapentti).

Also, you may have to bear with me a little this week as updates might be slower than usual due to time differences - the OOP for today didn't come out until after I'd gone to bed. I will try and give updates as often as I can :)

There are 3 doubles teams so I am proposing that we have a 3 way match where all 3 teams predict the scores of the QF matches with the 2 teams with the highest scores going through to the MTF Final where they compete against each other to predict the SF and F matches.

That way I feel is a bit fairer, as no team gets a bye straight into the Final.

If you're in the doubles, let me know if you have any objections.

The doubles competition surely needs better marketing!

I think going to 32-player singles draws will help the doubles to become more popular among players, because it ensures players more days in the game...

Ooo, and invu2day and I have the showdown match between the two most recent title winners in the South America clay swing. This should be a final really... ;)

Yes, we should have our own live scorecard....lol

Just the luck of the draw. Let's hope one of us go on to win the title then we can at least say ' I only lost to the champion;)'

Did you count Monaco's and Del Potro's matches, Gavnich77? They retired, and their matches aren't MNC in draw of post 5.

Congratulations, LaTenista. You got your revenge from last week. Good luck in QFs!

Sorry, Del Portro was for first round. But Monaco was for second.

I had excluded the Del Potro match but I did mistakenly count the Chela - Monaco match originally as I hadn't realised that Monaco had retired in the third set.

Unfortunately that has affected the outcome of one match. Shotgun Blues - I'm really sorry but this means that you have now been knocked out on countback to Caralimon as he sent me first day picks and you didn't. You both scored the same number of points in the tiebreak (you had 6-4,6-3 Calleri, Caralimon had 6-2,6-3 Calleri, result was 6-3,6-3 Calleri). I feel really bad about this but I have let Caralimon go through, especially as he had already sent his 2nd round picks through.

Once again, I'm sorry for messing up.

I didn't send picks for day 1 because I had understood that it was only for those who weren't sure of how the order of play would be for day 1 and day 2 (i.e., what would exactly be the matches for day 1 and day 2), so they would send picks for all the first round matches so that they didn't had to check the OOP. As I checked it on Monday, I didn't think it was necessary to send picks for day 1. In your post with the instructions, the only tie-break criteria specified is the match for which you try to guess the scoreline. There was no word about using picks on day 1 as a second tie-break criteria.

Anyway, I strongly advise you and other TT managers to include every single rule in the post with the instructions, if not people like me will keep getting wronged every now and then.

It was discussed within this thread to send in Day 1 picks to use as countback, but I agree it wasn't very clear, it was confusing and I would feel a little hard done by if I were you. This has been the first tournament where the first round has been split and there have been a few teething problems which will start to iron themselves out as the game progresses. We're learning all the time about how we can make improvements to the game but I will bring up your points about making things clearer.

If it's any consolation at all, you would have lost on the next criteria which would have been ranking.

Scores updated - send in your picks as soon as you can.

For those in the doubles don't forget to send on you scores as well. The 3-way tie starts in the QF's

It'll probably be you carrying us most of the way in doubles. :p I've been taking too many chances and it's not paying off. But now, I can't even get a PM through to Gavnich, it keeps telling me that the page has expired each time I hit send. I think little by little MTF is turning against me, because I couldn't post in mine and Jess's chat thread for about 2 day for the same reason; and just our thread, no other thread, just ours. lol Same now with Gavnich, just PMs to him aren't working, not to anyone else. Why does technology hate me? lol

invu2day's on for the double.....and he could become the first person to win 2 singles titles, although LaTenista will be a tough opponent based on his form in this tournament.

Thanks everyone!

:yippee: 4 finals in 3 weeks, boy am I nackered. Won all of them but this week was the most difficult. :yippee: I nearly missed the second round because a mexican native directed onto the wrong bus. So sharpeirob was about to get a walkover just a few minutes before I finally stepped onto court :D

My commiserations to La Tenista in the singles final. In the end a tiebreak divided us so well played. Commiserations also to LA Tenista and Iza in the doubles final where also a tiebreak divided yourselves with Rosie and me so well played again.

A big thanks to Gavnich77 for running a smooth tournament :clap2:

Massive respect to my partner in crime Rosie for helping me win our second doubles title together. If we were real players we would be like Gaudio/Coria in doubles as in 2004. But I don't think Rosie thinks much of Coria, plus Coria isn't such a friendly guy and doesn't exactly get on with Gaudio.

Onto Indian Wells now where it will be very difficult. I'm mainly a claycourt specialist and not so good on other surfaces so Rosie it going to have to help me out in the doubles again;)

Cheers to all the players in this tournament and good luck to at Indian Wells.

Cheers

:haha: You would be so right................I don't think so much of Coria  I will be any other player on the ATP Tour but him!!

Seriously - many congratulations on your Singles' title Invu, and thanks for your help and support as my doubles' partner - you're the best  You need this next few days off to rest and recuperate before IW - sadly I am a bit of a Clay Court Specialist too - but hopefully our experience of winning big titles will help us there.

Gavnich - you're a star - thanks for running the tournament so well

I took you for Gaudio equivalent and me as Coria. I don't rate Coria's personality, but on the court he is my favourite player to watch. If only I could play like him but with Federer's temperament. :)

Hmmm - well I have seen Gaudio and Coria play doubles' together live and they played together well enough :) - so it might work! And I agree Coria is (was) a great clay courter, especially back in 2003 when he won those 3 titles back-to-back in the Summer - I just don't like him personally :haha:  You are a far nicer person
