Probably a big year for Simon. Did well in 2 CHs and beat some big names. Hopefully he can continue the success and keep playing at the ATP level.

Vicente over Berlocq @ -141 - $71to win $50
Berlocq had trouble against an unranked singles player, the doubles specialist Leos Friedl, in Vina Del Mar, I don't think he can beat a seasoned claycourter like Fernando Vicente. I'm not completely sure of Vicente's form right now, hence the small stake.

Montanes x Serra x Garcia-Lopez @ +196 - $306 to win $602
Montanes shouldn't have too many problems against Vanek, Garcia should cruise past an out of form Saulnier, Serra should beat Dlouhy as well.

Bet#1:
Simon over Moodie @1.64 (mild bet to start the week)

Simon's recent performance has been great. He bet some big names this year and contended with Nadal pretty well last week until he started choking. Moodie isn't a player that causes many players to choke and this is a R1 match. Moodie hasn't been the best of form lately losing to Widom recently. The real question is, is Simon comfortable playing S&Vers and big servers. This is hard to say because he has limited ATP success. Simon did beat Karlovic 6-4, 6-3 last year at a CH which implies he has a pretty decent return game.

Mild play here only... line was originally @1.74 but waited too long.. guess everyones pounding Simon!

Bet#2:
Vicente over Berlocq@1.935 (mild bet to start the week)

Berlocq has been trying to make the transition from CHs to ATP but it simply isn't working out. He's just not ready yet and will continue to lose imo. Vicente on the other hand is well established and will be hard pressed to lose to a Berlocq.

More plays later on.

2006 ATP Tennis Record: 24-7 (+$9030)

Well last week went better than planned. I started off the week 0-3 but finished off a very strong and hit all three of my monster plays. Arnaud Clement was the star of the week and so far, he has won me the biggest wager of the year. Will that change at all? Sure...but maybe not this week. We have some interesting tournaments this week. Remember, all my bets this season are -199 or lower, or 1.52 or higher for you Europeans. This is the only way to make money in tennis, by not betting on parlays, heavy favs or heavy dogs. Good luck to all this week.

Costa Do Sauipe (Round 1): Monday, February 20, 2006

Ricardo Mello +165 over Juan Antonio Marin ($100 to win $165)

This may seem a little nutty since Mello is only 3-15 in his last 18 ATP level matches but this is the one and only tournament I would even consider betting on Mello this season and you can lock that up and seal. I am already a fan of the way the odds are swaying by the hour. Someone is dropping a lot of money in this match and the line is sinking. There seems to be a certain hype of the 31-year old Marin but what has he done? He beat Razban Sabau and Hugo Armando for his big two wins this year but apart from that has not impressed and I am not convinced that he is anything more than a washed up clay courter who should only be playing on the Challenger circuit. Even more interesting is the fact that Juan Antonio Marin is 0-6 versus left-handers (in ATP event qualifier or regular rounds) since his last win versus a lefty which was on February 24, 2003 in Acapulco versus Meligeni. Otherwise he has been so-so versus left-handers but that stat alone shows me that he does somewhat struggle against lefties and Mello will be ready. Ricardo is not having a good year and he did not have a pleasant 2005. However, I look for this tournament to be somewhat inspirational for Mello who will have all the fans behind him for this one and who doesn't have much pressure on him since he has not done anyting special lately. This is the main even of Day 1 as it is being played on Center Court and is the last match of the day. I would prefer betting on Mello on the hardcourts but since that's not an option, I'll take the clay. He has never been really that good on clay but once again, I am not taking surface into consideration that much for this match. Mello has played in Costa Do Sauipe the last three years, and he was a semi-finalist here last year, losing to Rafael Nadal in 3 sets. Mello has 5 wins and 3 losses at Costa Do Sauipe and those three losses all came versus TOP 50 opponents. Marin is ranked #101 in the World and although that is decent, Mello has a serious chance of winning this match. Small stakes to kick off the week but at this price, I just couldn't resist. GO MELLO!

I believe he may be able to take out Rusedski. He has a similar game to Santoro, and he accounted for Rusedski easily. 0-1 in H2H, but that was on grass.

Mello @ 2.45

I guess it's better to wait for some more interesting matches. Vik over Greg and Mello seem to be right choices, but odds for Czech are somehow too short in my opinion (I would take it with >3.00) and Mello's form is a big question mark + Marin is a better claycourter

Carlsen is one of the better indoor players and Luczak likes slow conditions. ;)

if slow conditions mean for you slow surface like clay, so you're wrong then, i was arguing in this case last time when Luczak played in davis cup, he's crap on clay loosing almost everything and everywhere, he's best results came from hard courts so far. So can;t see the point of saying he's better on slow surfaces if you meant that.

He isn;t all that good really. Check this link out: http://www.atptennis.com/en/players/playerprofiles/playeractivity/default.asp?year=2005&player=L515&x=13&y=2

His hardcourt results are marginally better but my point is that he plays much more on clay. I wouldn't take too much notice of his form in January - that was a flash in the pan. Point is Carlsen should win, but the match is likely to be tight. Also take into account any nerves the Dane may have as he is the defending champion and his ranking will go South with a poor performance this week.

Bet lost. Robredo lost in the 3rd set. Quite surprising because Capdeville hasnt done much outside of clay, even losing to bogo last month. However Robredo was only winning 30% of 2nd serves in the 2nd and 3rd set so that was a poor performance :(
