1st ODI - West Indies V New Zealand

If the 20/20 match was anything to go by, this could be a close series. On Thursday, it was West Indies first 20/20 match ever and most of them never played any 20/20 before and we almost won. So now we're adjusted back to our one day games, I think we'll put a big account for ourselves as we won't look to attack every ball.

If Bravo misses, that could be a bad loss - particularly with bowling. But Jerome Taylor is back and Fidel Edwards will be playing I think. Smith bowled well the other day too. Our batting is still reasonably strong.

West Indies are at $3.80 to win. Why? Why are the odds so long in a one day match? That's worth a try.

West Indies to win @ $3.80

Good luck!

New Zealand team:

J How
N Astle
S Styris
S Flemming
P Fulton
H Marshall
B McCullum
J Franklin
S Bond
D Vettori
M Mason

Supersub: J Patel

West Indies:

C Gayle
D Ganga
R Morton
W Hinds
R Sarwan
S Chanderpaul
D Smith
D Ramdin
I Bradshaw
F Edwards
J Taylor

Supersub: R Lewis

New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat. Good for us as we play better chasing. We have a huge batting lineup. The addition of Sarwan helps a lot.

NZ finished with 9/288 - should have been more. Astle out on 90 and the top 4 batsman all made starts but couldnt' consolodate onto a bigger total.

Windies used their supersub to take Taylor off and bring Lewis on - so not only did Lewis get a wicket, but he can bat.

We effectively have batting down to number 10 to chase this down and Ramdin can stay around and so can Bradshaw if need be.

1. Chris Gayle
2. Daren Ganga
3. Ramnaresh Sarwan
4. Runako Morton
5. Wavell Hinds
6. Shivnarine Chanderpaul
7. Dwayne Smith
8. Denesh Ramdin
9. Rawl Lewis
10. Ian Bradshaw
11. Fidel Edwards

That team have the batting to chase down this total. The question is, will they?

288 is a big total to chase, especailly when you only have 20 overs... gonna be tough, but i'll cheer for you and the Windies, Bolar ~ :yeah:

Good luck ~!!!

Early trouble struck. Gayle was out cheaply to a nothing shot and Morton got out for a golden with an equally wrose shot.

We're 2/62 after 15 overs. Ganga and Sarwan are steadying the ship. Ganga 33(56) and Sarwan 19(29)

I'm happy for them to keep doing what they're doing for now. We always keep wickets in hand and then unleash to chase down the total with wickets in hand. I'm happy for these two to keep doing this for another 5 - 10 overs.

This match could re-establish Ganga's career. If he can build on this total and bring us home - it could actually re-establish his career.

3/104 (23)

Ganga got out on 54

Sarwan is on 38 and Chanderpaul is at the crease.

Important for Sarwan to go on now and Chanderpaul to play the anchor.

Chanderpaul 8(7)
Sarwan 42(60)

Need 173 from 150 balls with 7 wickets remaining with Smith, Ramdin, Hinds, Lewis and Bradshaw to come.

5/152 (34)

We need 137 off 96 balls.

Chanderpaul went for 19, Hinds went for 2 or something.

It's up to Smith and Sarwan.

Smith needs to get us on top of the run-rate. He's already hit a brilliant six. If Smith gets out cheaply, it's over.

If Smith can bring the RRR down, our other batsman will play sensibly.

Sarwan out now. 6/153

It's well and truly over. It's up to Ramdin and Smith our 2 inexperienced players to bring the match home.

Sarwan and Ganga made starts but couldn't go on - not surprising.

Stuff it!

Bring back Ricardo Powell!

What happened to Powell? I dont think Windies wouldve won with him anyways.

Powell's been out of favour with the selectors.

21 runs have been scored off the last 2 overs. Smith went ape shit scoring 14 off one over including 2 6's.

113 needed off 69.

We can't win but I want to at least get close.
