I smell an upset. Guccione, as Jez said qualified for RG 05 and won 1 match there. If we get over 4 then it's worth some change.

Wawrinka @1.18 w.hills.. worth it?
nalbi and chucho to thrash the swedes on clay (no odds yet)...
Roddick to go 2-0 and Usa to win easily..
maybe Mirnyi over Robredo on fast indoor, nice odds @1.83
Gonzo over mertinak looks good as well, but likely crap odds.

dont trust GER v FRA or AUT v CRO ties.
team bets : Usa and Argentina to win easily.

Just read Jez prediction site..
good stuff jez, didnt know Koubek was 10-1 on clay in DC .. and can remember the straight set assualts he handed Henman and Rusedski a few years ago..
Ljubo isnt the same on clay, away tie and surely he must be tired as well.
koubek @3.25 is great!

Mikey - the court in Belarus will be as fast as anything...both Mirnyi and Voltchkov love it like that...and the interesting thing is that Mirnyi has never lost a singles rubber indoors at home.... ;)

Well, Luczak is the better player, he likes to play on clay. Lammer has played some good matches last year but isn't really in great form. Money on the road.

Spain to defeat Belarus @ -157 - $250 to win $160
I don't care about the surface, all Belarus has is Max Mirnyi. Voltchkov is on the downside and lost to a Canadian during the playoffs. Mirnyi isn't all that reliable either, he lost Mariano Puerta last year on a similar surface during one of the indoor masters. If Robredo and Ferrer don't beat Mirnyi, they should definitely beat Voltchkov and I doubt Mirnyi will win both.

I'm waiting for more singles odds, but I'll definitely include Luczak @ -250 in a parlay.

Surface is incredibly fast mate...and if you haven't already checked Mirnyi's record in DC (and Voltchkov's) at home, it is worth looking at. ;)

Thanks for the tip man, I haven't confirmed this bet as of yet, but I will most likely make the wager later tonight. This is difficult as Robredo and Ferrer are not known for their indoor prowess and have never led a Davis Cup team on their own. I know Voltchkov has had success on fast surfaces with a SF in Wimbledon, but he's really on the downside man. Their seems to be a lot of value in this pick. I really want to see the odds for Tursunov and Haas. ;)

Croatia at Austria (R1)

Mario Ancic -112 over Jurgen Melzer ($560 to win $500)

The odds are quite baffling if you aske me but this looks like a serious mistake by the books and I say we all take advantage of this. This match is being played in Graz where the surface is clay and the court is indoors. Well yeah that favors the Austrians and yeah it favours Melzer but in the end...does it really? When you look at the big picture of things, Ancic is the better tennis player so far this year and so far in his career. Mario is still personally bothered by his loss to Hrbaty in last year's DC Finals and although he avenged it by beating Mertinak, he wants to show the Country that he can win big matches and setting the tone early here is going to be very important. Jurgen Melzer has done absolutely nothing this season to show he has a pulse in the TOP 100 and in fact, he has never ever won a WORLD GROUP match in his career. Melzer has participated in 24 DC matches for Austria and won only seven. He is 0-5 lifetime in the WORLD GROUP stage (not counting prelim playoffs) and is 3-11 lifetime overall on the indoor surface in Davis Cup action. Did I mention that he is 1-4 lifetime on the clay surface in DC and that Mario Ancic won more matches in the WORLD GROUP last year than Melzer ever has in his DC career. Ancic has all the experience he needs for a match of this magnitude and he will come out ready. Ancic has never won a Davis Cup match on the clay court but excusing his past performances is a must since his losses were to the great Spaniards and the great French back in 2003 and 2004. Mario is just about ready for win #1 of his career on the clay courts and this is a great time to drop some cash on SUPER MARIO!

Croatia and Austria plays in Graz in "Tennis Balloon" (some will call it indoors) Temperature is very low, about 10 degrees (Celzius). 500 Croatinas against 4500 Austrians in cold ballong. I have read that Ancic and Ljubicic are not pleased with court cause it is uneven. We'll see but I want to say that I'm not so sure in Croatian domination against Austria.

Slovakia at Chile (Rubber 2): Friday, February 10, 2006

Nicolas Massu -171 over Dominik Hrbaty ($171 to win $100)

Very small play for me on this one guys because we all know how much Massu can screw our wagers but here is the deal on this match. The price is far too high for me to drop more than $200 on this game and I don't want to risk it with a match that the potential of going 4-5 sets (where Hrbaty would have the big advantage in such a case). Massu is playing in his home country, in front of his home crowd and is coming off a near tournament in Vina Del Mar. Massui is 11-1 lifetime on Clay courts in Davis Cup action but don't value too much into that because Chile's opponents have not been top notch and Hrbaty is by far his biggest test yet on Clay. I really like the fact that this is a revenge match for Massu in Davis Cup. Back in 2001, Hrbaty smashed Massu on the carpet surface in Slovakia and Massu probably still has that in the back of his mind. Earlier this year, the two met in Auckland where Massu demolished Hrbaty on a surface that is supposed to favour the man with the holed shirt. After digging a little deeper, it has come to my attention that of Hrbaty's 27 wins in Davis Cup action, 18 of them have come back at home in Slovakia and his record away from home is 9-8 overall. He has not done anything special on the clay courts in Davis Cup and it might take him a bit of time to adjust to this surface having not played on Clay since last season. Massu's only loss on Clay Courts in DC action was in doubles play and I wouldn't value that too much either. Massu has won six straight Davis Cup singles matches and his last loss was back in 2001 to who else but Dominik Hrbaty. It's revenge time for Nico and this win will probably put Chile up 2-0 and set them up for a pleasant weekend where all they have to do is win one match and they are through. This is huge for this Country. Go Nico!

Everyone is apparently "injured" here and there.. they still seem to be playing well though :p

Glad that I didn't go through with any picks today. Was very close to taking Spain over Belarus, but then fell asleep last night and woke up to see Mirnyi up on Robredo.

Why back Voltchkov ever? I'm betting against him more than on Ferrer - anyway, gl, that's why they play the matches - I promise to come back & eat crow if VV wins, but don't think I'll have to! :wavey:

Germany will win the doubles.

Haas will bounce back against Grosjean.
Kiefer will beat Gasquet

Very likely for a German win still.

2006 ATP Tennis Record: 18-4 (+$4935)

It was a great start to my Davis Cup season as Mario Ancic pulled off an incredible win in five sets. I was done for the day but had not seen the price for this match and now I am all over it.

Go Nico!

Massu wins easily 6-7 6-3 6-1 7-6

lol, Voltchkov, man was I wrong - except for the part about him being done, he's a never was - & you know at least I (& a few others - you know who you are) have the onions to come on & make real predictions ahead of time, not the wishy washy crap & past posting that prevails on too much of this forum - that said, It's still a pretty entertaining forum & can be valuable - i.e. if *everyone* is on voltchkov that's probably a fair enough warning to get on a different fav :)

I wonder if Ferrer is the worst top 10 player of all time?

Anyway, Massu's nice W made my day better

GL all

he is definitely in the running, you just should not lose to a player ranked in the 300's if you are top 10 material

i know hindsight is wonderful, but if you were going to take the low odds play, bandy /chuhco/gonzo were all locks

yeah, i can't believe I missed bandy; chucho I don't seem to have a good feel for...gonzo odds were too sick though - like 28 or something, & I knew he called the trainer last week - bummer to lose ferrer, but a 4.1 unit loss I can manage (& almost did w/ +3 from Massu, poaching off the on fire mista flav :))
still waiting on you to do the research for me on your nba under idea my man!
