It would've been even sweeter if Andy'd clinched it with a big win of his own, but I'm not complaining! He owes Andre, BIG! LOL!

I managed to avoid seeing the Agassi/Ferrero score but when the coverage started and Andre lost the first set so badly, I just went online and looked, I figured why prolong the agony.... and then I go to atptennis.com and it says that Andy's #1 and I just freaked out LOL

HAHAHAHA This is what Andre had to say about Andy finishing at #1

"It's an incredible accomplishment, especially the way he's done it, coming on late in the year. He has a lot to feel proud about," Agassi said.

"Glad I could help. I aim to please."

I was thinking about you and wondering when you would finally figure out that Andy had won. I thought you might slowly start to get the glimmer as Andre came out firing in the third set..... but you didn't have to wait that long. :)

lol yeah... I actually had class at 7, so I wasn't even here to agonize. I waited it out and wasted time since I knew I couldn't sit at my comp and not look (and of course all I have to do which is productive is a research paper which I have to use my computer for LOL), so anyway when the match started and all of a sudden the first set was over 6-2 I was just like omg I cannot take this anymore so I loaded atptennis.com - and of course on my ethernet connection the site loaded slow as molasses and I was going over what the headline was gonna say (such as "Ferrero still in the hunt" or "Ferrero stuns Andre again" or some other equally as stupid headline such as they always put up there) but then it loaded, and I first saw the pic of Agassi and I was like wait and then I saw the headline "Agassi Win Helps Roddick Clinch No. 1 in Houston" and I had to blink about 10 times and then I just said "holy shit!!!"

LOL Bunk, you just couldn't wait it out like I did, could ya? *shakes head*

I followed the scoreboard for the first two sets before stopping. I had no idea what would happen in the 3rd set when I watched it on TV. It was very dramatic and exciting. :) :D

Congrats Andy!!! #1 player for 2003!!

LOL I was planning on it! but after that first set I just assumed all was lost. Shame on me, I won't do THAT again! I should've known Andre better than that :)

"I'm incredibly honored to finish the year as No. 1, but I'm probably more proud to be the sixth American ever," Roddick said. "It's hard to reflect on what a year this has been, but I'm incredibly fortunate to be playing at home in the United States. To be able to share all of this with my family and friends is better than I could have ever imagined."

  YeeeeeeeHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Awesome job, Andy !!!! A well-deserved (and EARNED) No. 1 ranking !!!!!

In the post match interview, Andre :worship: suggested that Andy should probably send him something to say thanks. I hope Andy is generous. ;)

bunk, it was *killing* me to not go online and read the results before I watched the match! But I wanted to feel the tension and be surprised so I watched the match and I'm so glad I held out! I am soooo happy  for Andre finally winning over JC! Cracking his racket on his foot  was probably the best thing he did because he came out of his slump soon after that. It's been a while since Andre had such an outburt, maybe he should crack his raquet more often. It seems to help him!

So sorry, but better luck next year, Mosquito! :bounce:

And to the haters: good luck next year with your continued Duck hunting because this Duck season is now officially OVER. You lose! Turn in your permits!

:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:

More of Andre's comments on Andy:

Q. Expecting a fruit basket or something from Andy Roddick since you helped him out with the No. 1?
ANDRE AGASSI: You know, Andy had No. 1 in his hands the whole week, so regardless if I beat Ferrero or not, it was going to be up to him to solidify it.
So, you know, glad I could help. I aim to please (smiling).

...................
Q. You played a very high level for many years but only finished the year No. 1 once. Can you reflect on Andy's accomplishment.
ANDRE AGASSI: Well, it's an incredible accomplishment, especially the way he's done it. He's sort of done it coming on late in the year. He got to the semis of Australia, but was going into the summer a lot closer to 20 in the world than No. 1 in the world because he had to defend the finals of the Canadian Open, had some results, quarters of the US Open.
And for him sort of to dominate the hard court season the way he did is incredible. I did that in 1995, and it just took a lot out of me.
So for him to pull it off is a great accomplishment. He's beating -- he's proven himself to be No. 1 over the greatest players in the world. So he has a lot to feel proud about.

.......

Q. Andy's getting a lot of off-the-court opportunities to do things, sort of reminiscent of you in your younger days. Is there a piece of advice you would give to him to balance out the off-the-court stuff so it doesn't spill over into his tennis?
ANDRE AGASSI: No, he needs to give me advice there. He seems like he's doing a fine job, you know. He's finishing the year No. 1 with, I'm sure, a lot of people tugging at him. He's doing something right.

Q. Did you find those activities, images, were a little deleterious to what you were trying to do?
ANDRE AGASSI: I think in my case, there were many times in my life where I looked for excuses to be distracted so I didn't need to look very hard because there were a lot of them. But I was still choosing that.
So I could have managed it with more skill, but just I think there were just times where I didn't quite choose that road.

Q. Do you have any regrets? Do you ever think, "I would have won more Grand Slams if I hadn't done so much non-tennis stuff"?
ANDRE AGASSI: It's possible. It's possible I'd be watching this tournament from my living room as well. I'm still here. I still have chances to win. The day I won in Paris was the day I could honestly say the regret wouldn't be an issue anymore. To win more would be great. But it's just more.

I cannot believe I messed up taping and missed the trophy ceremony. I knew at 2 that they'd turn the coverage over to ESPN2, so I had the timer stop taping on ESPN and a minute later switch over to ESPN2, but they're only 1 number apart so I must've forgotten to switch it and I got golf :bigcry:

Maybe they'll show it again tonight during the Agassi match.

It's ok Bunk.

Kinda embarssing to receive the #1 trophy right after a tough loss (and an overall poor quality match to boot).

yea.... but I still would've wanted to see that. I agree though, what a crappy time, they could've waited til at least tomorrow's match just in case he would hopefully win that... then again it may have been planned before he lost. dunno. still want to see it though :(
