Now I REALLY have to go!!!
http://www.scottsdaletennis.com/splash/default.asp

what do you guys know about going to tennis tournaments? What would be the best session to get tix? that's one thing that sucks about tennis - you have to buy tix 4 months in advance but don't know who you get to see til the day before :(

NICE:bounce: you should go, you won't regret it. i went to the TMS here in Montreal this past summer, and the rain only permitted 3 games of Andy's match vs Chela           and then i had to go home, but i got to see him in a practise sesion on center court for about 30 minutes, and NOBODY was there besides me, i was a litle early:lol::yeah: live tennis is soooo much better than on TV, you can actually see the proper trajectory of the ball, the spins, etc. nice stuff to watch

cool :) Luckily the Scottsdale tourney is the one week I'm in Scottsdale, so I can definitely go. It's a vacation so time isn't an issue, it's just convincing my parents they want to go too. And a matter of picking a session that Andy will likely play in LOL!

OK. Here's my advice. Dump your parents. It will just be a drag with them. Go by yourself. It's a small venue and will be great for your first tournament. And buy tickets for the entire tournament. You will get better seats and you will get to see everyone you want to see. I mean, right now, you can't even be sure Andy will actually play there.

The other way, is to wait until the last minute and then get a ticket for that day...... or evening, or however they do it.

I like going to Scottsdale too. I'll probably go this Christmas again. It's warmer than here, and I do so get a longing to be warm at Christmas. I'm not such a fan of a white Christmas. :)

LOL OH yeah my parents are cool and they like tennis (my dad used to play in college and he's the one who exposed me to it when we'd watch Wimbledon or whatever when I was little) so it won't be a problem getting them to go for one day. No way on the series tix though, that they'd never go for, I'm sure of it, plus at ticketmaster all they're showing at the moment are single session tix anyway. Plus, we rent a car in AZ so they'd have to take me anyway which would be a royal pain since the Princess isn't that close to the condo we're renting.

So I'll probably just make a guess and get tix to a session or two and that'll be that and since we won't have a computer it'll be a nice surprise whoever we get to see ;)

Well then......... go for mid week. More matches. More players still practicing.

Mrs. Guga said something about Scottsdale a while back. But we haven't seen her for a long time.

I'm gonna have to go to San Jose this year. I had bought tickets for this year back in February, but my folks were getting paranoid that the placed was high risk for bombing (back when cities were getting warnings that bombing may take place). I spent over $200 too!

OK Now I need help in picking when to go - tix go on sale in less than a week so I have to work on my parents LOL. Ideally I'd love to go to 2 sessions but I don't know if that's feasible. If so, though, I was thinking the Weds and Thurs evening sessions. What do you wise tennis-experienced folk think? (all the prices are just the diff. seating options, ignore them lol)

Mon 1-Mar 10am 1 $32 $28 $22 $20 $14
7:00pm 2 $36 $30 $26 $24 $16
Tues 2-Mar 10am 3 $32 $28 $22 $20 $14
6:30pm 4 $36 $30 $26 $24 $16
Wed 3-Mar 10am 5 $32 $28 $22 $20 $14
6:30pm 6 $40 $34 $30 $26 $18
Thurs 4-Mar 12pm 7 $32 $28 $22 $20 $14
6:30pm 8 $40 $34 $30 $26 $18
Fri 5-Mar 12pm 9 $45 $42 $38 $32 $18
6:30pm 10 $55 $50 $45 $40 $25

This depends on what you want. Usually there are more matches in the daytime and more players to see on the practice courts etc.

If you are only looking to see Andy play, you might get him during a night match. Those night matches that time of the year can be chilly! I'm sure you know this if you go there every year. I've frozen at Indian Wells so many nights, although I have to say that the venue there looks nice and tucked away so it may be more protected from the wind.

p.s. Get the most expensive seats. :)

J. Corwin
11-25-2003, 06:24 PM
It depends what you the want the most. Obviously the weather in the daytime is gonna be more pleasant. The night matches are a different feel. Andy is probably gonna get all night matches.

Deboogle!.
11-25-2003, 06:57 PM
hehe weather doesn't really bother me (as I sit at home in Boston wearing shorts around the house) and I have other reasons for wanting to go to night sessions too - 1. to see the better players (I'd love to see Andre, Taylor, James, etc. in addition to Andy and night matches seem most plausible for that) and 2. I'm not sure if I could give up a while day of tanning by the pool ;)

It's a small stadium (<5000 I think) so pretty much any seats should be decent, but I'd definitely go for the 2 most expensive lol... I suppose that would also depend on whether I go to 1 session or 2.

thanks guys :)

when is this tournament played, and what's the weather like. coz if your reason for not going during the day is because you'll miss out on tanning, well trust me if it's hot weather you will get an awesome tan. i went 2 days straight in the day during the Montreal TMS and there was full of cloudsin the sky and everything, and i STILL got tanned

It's March 1-7, nice weather in Arizona :D I like to swim though, and I don't know if I could give up days at the pool lol. Plus, *hangs head*, all I really care about is seeing Andy play live :)

Havok
11-26-2003, 01:17 AM
ah but you don't get the whole feel of it. if i were you i would go one time during the day, and once at night. who knows Andy might get the last match during the day, which happened to me 3 games before the thunder/rain came down:sad:

star
11-26-2003, 01:30 AM
I think if you buy tickets this far in advance only caring about whether Andy plays, you might be disappointed. It's far better to buy the tickets to see the most tennis you can. Andy may be committed now, but these things change. He could be injured, out of sorts, tired...... any number of things could cause him not to play.

And Naldo!! I am so jealous. You can get a tan in two days? I would have to be out in the sun for three months straight before I tan. :)

J. Corwin
11-26-2003, 01:30 AM
You just reminded me to get tix for San Jose.

Deboogle!.
11-26-2003, 01:57 AM
rain? Arizona? LOL Funny joke....

I can tan in one day. nice dark brown too :) not bad considering I'm freckled.

Good point guys... I'll think about the day session. I just don't know if it's feasible. We rent a car so I have to depend on the rents for transportation so I may have to do what they're willing to do and when they're willing to go *sigh*

Maybe your hotel has a shuttle to the tournament?

Or get them to drop you off like early in the morning...say an hour before the matches start so you can scope out the practice courts, and then they can pick you up agin late in the day... surely you all have cell phones so you can coordinate. Don't worry about going alone. There are plenty of people who will talk to a cute tan girl with freckles. :)

star, we rent a condo so that would be a negatory on the shuttle lol... the shuttle is the parents LOL! It's not too far though, only 20 min away or so. I just need to stop speculating about it all and talk to them to see what would be feasible... they're just tricky and it takes time to work out what to say and how to beg lol

LOL You might have to

I'm sure I'll get what I want... I have presents that they owe me (Chanukah, graduation)... so I ought to be able to milk a few tickets to a tennis tournament out of it. The other day my mom was looking at the tourney's site on her own accord... that's a good sign ;) just a matter of going about it the perfect way...

don't freak out and think too much. thats what i did, and everytime i saw the city buses go by with Roddick/Agassi/HEwitt on them to promote it, i wanted to burt out in tears coz i just knew i wasnt gonna go. everything will fall into place, hopefully. i guess it's convenient to have a TMS thats 45 min away by bus/metro/walk

Well I got my tix this morning :) I did them automated by phone sitting in the airport waiting to board ;) I talked to my parents and we're all gonna go to the Thursday night session and I said I wanted to go to a day session too so that I'd just go myself (I'm an only child so I like doing things myself anyway - it's more efficient!). So anyway, I got the closest section, row C for both sessions... I assumed that was good ;) the seat #s don't mean much to me and the seating chart's not labeled so it's hard to know where I am but at least it's the long section of the court so even if it's near to an end they should be good.

I'm so excited!!!!
