Welcome to Tennis Tipping Davis Cup!

What is Tennis Tipping - Davis Cup?

In the game, participants will team up into teams of 2 (or 3 or ;) ) from the same country. Both participants in the team pick the winners of all matches in all ties (singles and doubles). If there are more than 2 on a team, you can have one tipping the doubles or whatever you think is best. Teams are placed into a knock-out format (just like the actual Davis Cup), also known as a tie.

In a tie, players will be matched up just like in the real Davis Cup. You will play both players from the other team, as well as a doubles match. Certain Davis Cup matches in each tie will be assigned to each match. This is an example for a complete tie. :

FIRST MATCH (First Days Singles) :
Player A (AUS) v. Player C (ENG)
Player B (AUS) v. Player D (ENG)

SECOND MATCH (Doubles) :
Player A/Player B (AUS) v. Player C/Player D (ENG)

THIRD MATCH (Last Days Singles) :
Player B (AUS) v. Player C (ENG)
Player A (AUS) v. Player D (ENG)

The Number Of Teams Per Round:

Davis Cup Round 1 - 16 Teams
Davis Cup Round 2 - 8 Teams
Davis Cup Round 3 - 4 Teams
Davis Cup Final - 2 Teams

Note:

- In case of a tie, a tie-breaker match for which the score (as opposed to just the winner) is given, will decide who wins the match. For all participants, this tie-breaker match is the same and will be assigned beforehand.
- In case a player (i.e. the actual Davis Cup Player) retires in a match, this match will be cancelled and not taken into consideration when calculating the number of correct picks. If players are replaced by a lucky loser after the start of Tennis Tipping, these matches will also be cancelled.

How to Sign-Up:

Just post here that you would like to play. :)
You must commit before the designated time. For this tournament, that time is 9:00PM Thursday in Melbourne on 9th February.
For help with timezones, use this - www.timeanddate.com/worldclock.

Maximum Teams for this tournament: 16

How to send in picks:

Picks can be sent in as soon as the draw is released. Remember, you pick a winner in every match in every tie! Picks should be sent by PM, so that your opponent does not know your picks. Picks should be titled: TT: Davis Cup Picks can be sent in anytime until the beginning of play in the first tie. No changes can be made.

It sounds a bit complicated, but it will be easier to understand once the draws for each of the ties come's out. Just remember, you have to pick the winner of every match in every tie (even doubles).

For now, just make a team with a fellow countryman/woman and I'll be able to explain it better once the draw comes out. :)

Good Luck! :wavey:

Okay, so i've introduced davis cup to give you a go at a teams event for Tennis Tipping! :)

Please find a fellow countryman/woman and sign-up.

Countries with 2 or more Tennis Tipping participants:

Australia
USA
Great Britain (combining Wales, Northern Ireland and England)
Israel
Argentina
Chile
Finland
Netherlands
Germany
Canada

If you're the only Tennis Tipping player from your country, find another and introduce them to the game. :)
If there are 4 or more players from the one country, you can form two teams. Eg: Australia 1 & Australia 2. But if there are too many teams entering, the Country 2 teams will be the first to be omitted.

I guess it's not important if your team (GBR) is actually one of the teams on the list...so it doesn't matter if GBR is playing the Zonal groups.......

Sorry if I'm being too impatient, but I have a couple of questions concerning the Davis Cup and the way it works. I know Deccy promised to explain how this works later, but I'll ask now anyway. :p

For example, if one member of a team forgets to send his/her tips in time, can a third member of a team replace that person in the tie and act as a alternate/backup? And who decides which player plays in which matches/rubbers (if there are more than 2 players in a team)? Are there DC captains for the teams who make these decions? How does the doubles match work in reality?

The Davis Cup draw comes out fairly early, giving you plenty of time to send in your tips.

And who decides which player plays in which matches/rubbers (if there are more than 2 players in a team)? Are there DC captains for the teams who make these decions?
You will have to discuss with your team this sort of stuff, through PM's or through here.

How does the doubles match work in reality?
The scores of both you and your teammates tips will be combined for the doubles match from all your tips for the real DC doubles matches.

Hope this explains it for you! :wavey:

Yeah, PM them. One of them will have to play each day, while the other will just play the doubles and the Last Days Singles.

DeccyB123

Okay, so here's a brief rundown on how it works. You tip every match from every day in every tie. Your tips from the First Days singles go towards your MTF first days singles scores. Your tips from the doubles will be combined and go towards the MT doubles draws. Your tips from the last days singles go towards your MTF last days singles scores.

Understand?

I think that it's the same be the player A or B. So i could be player B, or A if Sylvester wants be player B, but i think that it's the same.

1 question: if the real players be change in his draw these matchs don't cout, alright?

Maybe in Sunday we have less match to count.

And another question, if a real team win the match with macth to be played (3-0 or 3-1), these matchs don't count? Because in this case the players don't give all to win them matchs.

Send in every tip for every game during the davis cup ties.

If you're player A - you play Player A of the other team. Whoever wins with the most tips, wins 1 match for their country (just like the Davis cup)

Player B plays against Player B of the other team. Whoever wins with most tips, wins 1 match for their country.

For example Australia:

Player A and Player B.

Just say we're playing Germany.

Just say our Player A beat Germany's player A - We'd be 1 - 0 up in the tie. If our player B won, we'll be 2 - 0 up in the tie.

Then both players on each team send in their tips for the Doubles. If Australia wins, they're 3 - 0 up in the tie which means they've won the tie.

Then reverse singles happen just like the Davis Cup.

Australia's Player A will play Germany's Player B
and Australia's Player B will play Germany's Player A

It's exactly the same as tennis tipping during the weekly tournaments. But it is based exactly the same on the Davis Cup. Instead of playing another player, you're playing another country the same way the Davis Cup works.

The DC draw is out for 7 of the 8 teams. Check daviscup.com to see when the last comes out. I suggest you send in your tips for all 3 days now, because with the time differences it will be hard to send them in daily. If you do send them in daily, stick to the matches stated in Post #5, because if you send in your tips daily you can see who's playing each day, because of changes made in dead rubbers and stuff.

A lot of matches on the last day will probably be void because they will put in replacements. There are three tie-breaker matches, 1 for each day. Good Luck!

Updated! Everyone picked Blake so all matches are decided except for those that have went to tie-breakers. Only 1 tie will need to be decided by tie-breakers.

I'm quite lost with this tiebreak pointsystem as you can probably see :o Should I always send some scores too or how is it working?

Of course I'm happy that we won, but I don't want to get bageled this badly in tiebreaks in the future. ;) Great job el guero and Labamba, thanks to you Finland is in the quarters :woohoo:

The matches that u should send the score are marked with "TB" on the 1st page where the draw is .

You should send the actual scores, like 6-4 6-7 6-3 6-1... (and you get points from different things, you should check the PREDICT-THE-SCORE game thread where all of this is explained). :wavey:
