lol, Doris.

Well "spanked" isn't exactly right, because he did win the first set. :)

I think Rainer is burnt down to a crisp, and I don't think carpet suits him. But, I have a soft spot for Pavel because he essentially gave up his chances in the FO to be with his wife and baby, but yet he sacrificed himself to get back to Paris to fulfill his obligations there. I thought that was wonderful. So, I can't ever wish anything bad for him. :)

i didnt wanna jinx Andrei

Rainer was always gonna lose
IF Andrei was 100% match tight, Rainer would have been spanked out of sight

Pavel 4-0 now in H2H :wavey:

I can't believe how Arazi has managed to pick himself up after his gigantic slump. I thought he would sink into retirement.

Veronique
10-31-2003, 08:32 PM
The lone win Federer has over Henman was due to Tim's retirement. One would have thought that Roger would have a great shot at this post-shoulder surgery Tim indoors. But helas!

Well done Tim! Now please fold nicely tomorrow against Andy, will ya!

Veronique
10-31-2003, 08:34 PM
Congrats Tim. TL, why would Roger purposely miss shots? Isnt' he a fighter?

I wish I could say it was a shock

I don't know whats going on with Roger but he needs some serious down time, he looked in control in 1st set then it was as if someone had sucked out all his energy, he looked the same against Verkerk and even in the 2nd round match he looked jaded.
Great to see his racket hit the floor (even though that signalled defeat) at least it was good to see some anger in him.
I'll always support Federer because he has caught my imagination for tennis again and when he is on form he is incredible to watch.
I just hope he can build on this defeat and remember he is the Wimbledon champion (and will be again)

Zephyr, you are utterly hilarious. There you were confidently predicting a Federer victory, and when (shock horror!) Henman proves his credentials once again against the Wimbledon champion you resort to these repeated, desperate attempts to mock him. Pathetic beyond belief, and completely hollow in light of what just happened.

The Henman-Federer record does not lie - Henman has a very good game to play him and it showed tonight. True, Federer missed two golden opportunities at the end of the first set and I was disappointed at the way he fell away in the second (he certainly tanked that last volley when he got broken again to go down 5-1, and I can well understand the Parisian crowd's booing of him at the end). As a Federer fan, I was really hoping for a good three-setter here.

But Henman showed in the tiebreak why he has an edge - he can block the Federer serve back and chip it down low on the second as he comes in behind it, forcing him into difficult volleys at his toes. Federer, of course, has to serve and volley on a lot of second serves to prevent Henman chip-charging and pressurising him at the net. Compare Federer's record with Henman to his record against all the huge-serving netrushers out there, and you'll see that accuracy can sometimes be more effective than pace.

I think he has an excellent chance against Roddick tomorrow, and if he can somehow get through that match then the final would certainly be extremely winnable, but not guaranteed - no matches in a Masters Series are. Face it, Henman has not beaten Grosjean, Kuerten and Federer (that's 4 GS, 8 TMS and 32 titles collectively!) through chance. In fact, this tournament has restored my faith in him after this tough year. When you consider who he lost to at the three Slams he played this year, he's only fallen to the best.

Ok listen...I'm a big Andy fan like you. Don't start attacking me personally cuz I wasn't attacking you.

I have a car avatar because I like cars, especially that one. You don't know me, so there's nothing to prove why I have the pic. No one is obliged to have a tennis player as their avatar.

No need to get yourself worked up.

i just want to know why when a smartarse henmania idiot winds me up you join there side you shoudl be on my die damn it dont you want roddick to put that idiot way????

zephyr_uk
11-01-2003, 03:48 AM
i love roddick and won load sof money on us open as i bet on him two weeks b4 the guy is great and ooozing charisma and perosnality (what the tour needs) he beat henman who i hate in first round and lived the dream and got his slam.

Henman has his hea dup his own ass, not emotional like an andre or an andy and british media build him up tooooo much but the henman ego doesnt need it.

and his parents are so stuck up they actually look disgusted when he loses and show no emotion when he wins so i know where the little snob gets it from

J. Corwin
11-01-2003, 03:49 AM
I wasn't on anybody's side. I don't think Henman is an idiot. BUT, I do want Andy to win the match.

zephyr_uk
11-01-2003, 03:54 AM
ANDY will win the match and... i tell you why him and andre win slams its cos they deserve it, they cry when they win as they dont take life for granted.

henman smashed racket after losing to phillippoussis in 2000 at wimbledon, for some reason him and his family think cos they are stinking rich and hes the flagship of the LTA that he has divine right to win wimbeldon so its great to see his dream shattered every year by guys who say to him you dont have the right !!!!

Another fine prediction came true today, eh zephyr? Just the final confirmation I needed that you're the one who has shit for brains.

When I said Henman has the edge, I was referring specifically to his match-up with Federer. I'm not trying to suggest that objectively, he is a better player than either Federer or Roddick, which is what you're frantically trying to scorn at every possible opportunity. I am, however, suggesting that he is good enough to challenge and beat them, which is exactly what he's done.

You, however, seem more concerned with ranting about Henman's upper-class background, condemning him for a non-existent "arrogant" attitude, and generally trying to demean him at every possible turn without once accepting that he is a fairly good tennis player. So the chances are he won't end up with a Wimbledon title - I can live with that. He will, however, have proved that moronic haters such as yourself have no idea of his actual level of ability, and to me that's more satisfying than any GS victory could ever be.

zephyr_uk
11-01-2003, 09:40 PM
Oh and you predicted henman as the tournament winner last monday did you?? I THINK NOT

If you are such a great forecaster why dont you gamble and win money on all the tournaments and matches as you are obviouslly phycic.

zephyr_uk
11-01-2003, 09:50 PM
LMAO well tim obviouslly rocks your boat and his Paris win means more than any grand slam title.

Tim is a moderate top 20 player and i can assure you he could not pull off these wins at a grand slam event !!!!

And tennis is about GRAND SLAMS at the end of the day as thats how people remember you and how your name appears in the roll of honour.

Keep dreaming on Sjengster......he blew a great chance of winning aussie open when he lost to Bjorkman and fails every year to win wimbledon when sue barker and john lloyd tell you its his year.

the FACT is he is not good enough to win wimbledon and you argue till you are blue in the face, but hewiit gave him a masterclass in 2001 just as sampras has done to him on grass, and gorsjean was too classy for him in 2003.

NOBODY disputes he is a good player but hes top 20 and not some genius or legend that you believe he is.

zephyr_uk
11-01-2003, 09:54 PM
and before you go into one....yes hewitt beat gim in 2002 not 2001....2001 goran woke up and put him away with ease after rain delay.

Oh and isnt it weird how henmania fans blame the rain delay in semi for him not winning wimbledon 2001???

I mean theres an arrogant assumption that he would have gone on to beat Pat Rafter in final and that just makes me laugh so much.

NO WAY would henman have beaten Rafter in that final, Goran saved Tim from heartache in the final by beating him in semis !!!

zephyr_uk
11-01-2003, 09:57 PM
Would you like a doughnut sjengster??? what makes this dougnut extra special is that tim henman has touched it.....yes (shock horror) your god has actually had his paws on it....

in your world that doughnuts value is now £50,000 LMAO

zephyr_uk
11-01-2003, 09:59 PM
I do like a bit of banter (as you can see) and hope your not taking it the wrong way.

I dont like henman and you do thats what makes it fun how people are passionate about their players and the contrasting opinions.

Deboogle!.
11-01-2003, 11:03 PM
just curious zephyr... who DO you like? :)

zephyr_uk
11-01-2003, 11:32 PM
RODDICK, agassi, el anouyia, federer, srichaphan and kuerten.

who are your fave players?

zephyr_uk
11-01-2003, 11:34 PM
those are my players i love to win and watch but also got time for hewitt and mirnyi i was a SAMPRAS and BECKER fantatic and miss them now.

Sjengster
11-02-2003, 12:56 AM
Oh, very witty banter there zephyr... bit confused that you seem to think I'm hailing Henman as some kind of god or legend of tennis, when I'm not. I think the words I used were "fairly good tennis player". Yes, I worship the ground he walks on all right, don't I? Strangely enough, while I see the Slams as important I don't regard them as the be-all and end-all of tennis - just because Henman may, shock horror, never win Wimbledon, doesn't mean I can't appreciate what he has and will achieve.

zephyr_uk
11-02-2003, 02:38 AM
so we agree he is a moderate player who chokes on the big stage phew ........lololol

i knew we would eventually agree LOL

zephyr_uk
11-02-2003, 02:41 AM
Henman not winning wimbledon is not "shock horror" lol.....i would pass out and need smelling salts if he made the final lol

Deboogle!.
11-02-2003, 03:29 AM
RODDICK, agassi, el anouyia, federer, srichaphan and kuerten.

who are your fave players?

I like most of the young Americans, Andy and Mardy the faves of them by far, and Ginepri the least fave probably. I love Taylor's relentless serving-and-volleying though ;). Pete is my all-time favorite but for those still active, I like Hewitt, Agassi, Guga, El-Aynaoui, Philippoussis, and many more that are escaping me right now.

I also like Henman a little, though, and think you're being rough on him. He's not a really really great player but he's good. I agree with Andy that he's a little underrated just b/c he never won a TMS or GS title. You don't have to like him, but he's not a "bad" player. All you have to do is look at the 4 guys he's beaten this week to see he's not a bad player. JMO

zephyr_uk
11-02-2003, 03:46 AM
i agree and judge on what i see hes had a phenominal week but why cant he produce thet all year??? its like basle in 1998 its always a false dawn when henman plays awfull its bloody awfull and i mean that seriously.

sometimes at wimbldeon he is seocnd on court and u see a world class matcha nd a classic and the pace the ball is goign at in tims matches is soooooooooooo slow and the errors are rdicolous, he can be playing someone past their best years and an easy sitting put away and he strokes it into the net.

and its not an attack on him not winning wimbledon but his record at the other 3 slams is poor and he normally does not a lot on the tour hence his ranking which is rarely in top ten.

zephyr_uk
11-02-2003, 03:53 AM
i just think guys like el anouyia in particular get a raw deal they are so damn consistent all year round and people ignore fact he got to aussie open semi and ranking is always great and henman gets more attention cos he is british and i think its so unfair

theres so many hard workers nt hat tour that are better players than henman but he gets all the publicity and british media hype.

if henman was moroccan or came from lesser county in wealth and power he would not ever get a mention but he is allowed to sail along and be considered as a british sporting hero.

i just wonder why all these peopel are comign out woodwork this wek and saying oh i knew tim had the ability to do this and beat all these players when they expected him to go out early as bookmakers and tennis world.

it makes me sick

zephyr_uk
11-02-2003, 03:58 AM
when i said el anouiya got to aussie open semi i meant 1/4 final and roddick lost semi...i know if u get a fact wrong on here someone post the qoute and tries t be smug and clever and childish....

i do know my tennis belive it or not and have mad elot of money betign on grand slam winners and love the game.

if someone wants to give me a henman lecture thats fair play but i know when a player retires and look on their career who i respect.

the fact unnamed person said to me earlier grand slams arent be all and end all well sorry actually they are.

thats what every player dreams of as a boy ..why do you think they cry and sink to knees when they win them???

for gods sake this isnt brain science...to say grand slams arent be all and end all of tennis is pathetic statement to win a henman arguemant.

I am sure tim would swap his whole tennis achievements so far for a wimbledon trophy so really they are be all and end all.

zephyr_uk
11-02-2003, 04:02 AM
the "unamed" personm who said that (schalken pic on profile)

you say grnd slams are not be all and end all of tennis well......

why dont you meet sampras for lunch and go for a coffee i am sure he would disagree with you there ...he said many times that he didnt care about rankings and was just carrying on for the "slams"

but what does his opion matter?? he is only the greatest player of the modern era and u are an internet tennis fan???

i dont care what sampras says i mean who is he when you are obviouslly so much more in the know

zephyr_uk
11-02-2003, 04:07 AM
Hmmmm sampras opinions or sjengster....who will i listen to or respect more???

its a tough one but i think pete wins by a county mile !!!!
