I know that there's a subforum for Davis Cup but few people go there. I am curious to know what will be the teams for the 1st round of World Group before the official lists come out, and that will be only in the week starting January 30th.

So far, we have:

- Croatia (Ljubicic, Ancic, Karlovic, Cilic)
- Argentina (Nalbandian, Coria, Gaudio, Calleri)

What about the others? Does anyone know?

PMac said he wouldn't officially announce til the official deadline - right after the AO

But I think the safe bet is Andy, James, and the twins

yep... Argentina team is 75% confirmed and is that one.

It isn't confirmed if he or Gaudio will be the 2nd singles.

Guy Forget has a tough decision to make too. :o He has:

Richard Gasquet
Sebastien Grosjean
Gael Monfils
Paul-Henri Mathieu
Florent Serra
Fabrice Santoro
Arnaud Clement
Michael Llodra

Llodra should be a shoo-in for doubles. As for the rest... :bolt:

- Tommy Robredo

- Feliciano López

Ferrer and López are supposed to play the singles, while López-Verdasco will be the choice for doubles.
Should be an interesting showdown.

Coria said himself that he probably won't play because he's not playing well enough at the moment.

According to Reuters Robredo will likely play the second singles. From Reuters (http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=tennisNews&storyID=URI:urn:newsml:reuters.com:20060122:MTFH41 091_2006-01-22_14-00-18_L22727593:1):
Ferrer to lead Spain in Davis Cup in Nadal's absence
Sun Jan 22, 2006 2:01 PM GMT
MADRID, Jan 22 (Reuters) - David Ferrer will lead Spain in next month's Davis Cup world group tie against Belarus after Rafael Nadal and Juan Carlos Ferrero were left out by new captain Emilio Sanchez Vicario on Sunday.
Nadal, number two in the world in 2005, has been left out because he is recovering from a foot injury. Ferrero sustained a stomach injury at the Australian Open.
Tommy Robredo is likely to play the second singles while Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco will probably form the doubles partnership for the tie in Minsk between Feb. 10 and 12 on an indoor carpet surface.
Carlos Moya, who lost in the first round in Australia, was also omitted by former player Sanchez Vicario who took over after the dismissal of previous skippers Jordi Arrese and Juan Avedano in October.
Spain, Davis Cup winners in 2000 and 2004, lost to eventual finalists Slovakia in last year's World Group first round tie before defeating Italy in a playoff.

Yeah I read that. I guess Chela would replace him.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's up with Joachim Johansson and Robin Soderling?

Excuse my ignorance, but what's up with Joachim Johansson and Robin Soderling?

Injured. Joachim will come back on the tour in February and Robin will start to come back in a challenger, so don't think he will be enough prepared to play the DC and if he accepts to play the DC cause there were some troubles with him and the team against India, so don't think he'll be welcome.

Joachim is still recovering from his injury and will probably return at the San Jose Open on 13. 2

Argentina has been confirmed with Nalbandian, Gaudio, Chela and Calleri (Coria is out).

Hewitt won't be playing for Australia against Switzerland on clay (smart move).

Great Britain will probably be Murray, Rusedski, Mackin and Sherwood.

 There really is a shocking lack of depth
