Haas asked Courier THE question ...

So funny. In the post match interview Jim asked Haas about changing coaches, cutting off his beautiful hair and then if he also broke up with his girlfriend?

Tommy replied "You know that's too personal... do you have a girlfriend Jim?"

Jim hesitated than said "I have a few"

And then Channel 7 keep putting on this little clip showing Jim Courier with John Alexander saying

"Let's watch Jim Courier work up a sweat when I mention 3 words ... Love, Marriage, Children". And Jim just tilts his head a little each time.

Obviously Jim has a good sense of humour about it all. :)

Haas asked Courier THE question ...

"Will you marry me?"

And who could refuse that? :)

Channel 7 have shown a few super slow motion shots of Haas as they have been inundated with viewer requests. One was a forehand with his shirt off and the other was a backhand but the camera goes close up on his butt. Obviously he is smash with the TV audiences for more than just his tennis. :)

Maybe Jim put in the requests for the replays. :)

THANKS TO THE MODERATORS FOR DELETING THAT POST.

Did you realise that a recent study in the USA concluded that many guys who had overtly homophobic tendencies reacted strongly sexually when shown homo-erotic images. Very interesting I think. ;)

Tommy's comment is being completely misunderstood.
He felt that Courier was asking questions which were too personal.
He wanted to counter that by asking Courier a personal question-- do you have a girlfriend?
Tommy was not implying any homosexual tendancies on the part of Courier.

I don't care about that.
I don't know that much about Jim and I remember once hearing a rumour he was a gay but noone ever had confirmation. I mean has he publicly said he is?

I ACTUALLY DELETED THAT POST!

Well thank you for deleting the post.

I have many friends in tennis circles and it is common knowledge amongst the tour that Jimbo is gay. He has never come out publicly to my knowledge, like many sports stars that don't want to damage their reputation, sponsorship deals, whatever.

I'd have to hear the question being asked; obviously "how" a word is said contains most of the meaning. What posters in here are responding to is that there may have been an insinuation on the part of Haas in responding in "that" particular way. Any one can post a link to an audio?

Of course Tommy knows that Jim is gay. All the tennis insiders know this. But he was having a dig back at Jim either way. It doesn't matter anyway. If you saw the interview live it was very funny and both men had a little laugh about it, as did I. :)

Well, I have friends who work on the tennis tour .. one for the ATP and another has worked for the WTA tour for years and they told me years ago and that it's common knowledge. And just recently one of my other friends who does commentary for Channel 7 and Fox Sports (and is gay) also confirmed it to me. That's good enough for me. And no, I am not going to share info on who the commentator is BUT she did sort of come out herself on a tennis show a few weeks ago.

Just like in the film industry they close ranks and don't let much of this stuff out to the media and rightly so if the person doesn't want to come out publicly. And like you say, who cares. I don't either. I was just reporting on the funny exchange on court.

It doesn't matter if he was implying it or not as he was also saying it in jest. And Courier took it in good spirits. But beneath every joke is an element of truth ;)

And why do you think Ch 7 put on that clip (several times) about how to get Jim nervous ... by mentioning 3 words. Love, Marriage, Children. And when they play it the Ch 7 commentators all have a little giggle. You see, if my friend who does commentary knows, guess what, all the other commentators know too.

i agree

could it be just a case of jim being scared of committing himself to a long term relationship. Being still single in middle age doesn't mean you could be a closet homosexual. Many men/women choose not to get married or have a relationship period.

no i don't have an opinion either way because i don't listen to gossip and would prefer to hear him say it himself or at least see some evidence of it. Jimbo is gay - and he is mostly out. A few years ago a fellow broadcaster was really teasing him too much and said "Jim, where have you been. You are spending way too much time in the men's locker room." Jim didn't say much - but seemed like an awkward moment. Martina N also outed him by accident years ago - by saying that there are men on the tour that are gay but that for many reasons it is harder for them to come out. She then said that she hit w/ one of them and that he was a top 10 player. Few days later Courier was qouted as saying that he had recently been hitting w/ Martina. Then people started to connect the dots.. ;)

Courier tends to ask questions that make the players feel awkward. Y-day, he kept asking Roger what his weaknesses were(cooking, cleaning etc.) and Federer looked really uncomfortable. As for his sexuality, can you blame him if he trys to hit on Haas. He's looking mighty fine.
