Battle of the French: Grosjean vs. PHM

So, who will win in the Rd. 16?
Amazingly these two have never met.
Grosjean is a former AO Semifinalist. Paul-Henri has never gotten out of the 1st round (this performance actually equals his best result ever in a Slam).

Would you consider this a no-brainer for Grosjean or not?

Wasn't Paulo's last GS R16 at the French in '02... el choke massivo contra Agassi.

I'd like to see PHM make it through, but I think the experience of Grosjean will tell.

Yes. That's the one.

Actually, he has had many chances to pass this stage. 2 MPs against Sargsian at the USO 2004 and then 2 MPs against Canas last year at RG (would have given him a QF since Kiwi withdrew), both 3rd rounds. :o

Yes, I recall the disappointment of that classic 3rd rounder against Sargsian. And last year's RG must be so much more heart-breaking when considering Canas' failed drug test and Kiefer's withdrawal. A definite shoulda-been-QF.

I saw the last two sets of Grosjean's match, pretty good performance: in patches going down, but overall pretty solid, good old Sebbe. :bounce: allez!

Who will win? Is that an honest question?

Grosjean in three.

Not a hater :ras: I am just in disbelief of the question.

Even you said Grosjean in 3 or 4.

I hope PHM puts up a fight :)

Well, some people thought Pratt could beat Golovin, so... :tape:

Allez Paulo!
Grosjean is the favorite and probably will win, but I do think Mathieu can give him a real challenge and if he's consistent enough win, why not?

I think we can't say anythong. Matches 100 % french always are very strange, it's mental. Players don't play like usually.
I don't have any prognostic.
It will depends of seb's serve too...
I hope they'll make a good match, not like mathieu/clement of the first round.

I'll cheer for seb. I have to make a choice. That's hard.

This is really a shitty match :( . I like both and wanted both to advance. I am still undecided who to root for. I will be pleased with either one in the final eight.

I could have sworn PHM was leading in the first set  Now to go down two sets, must have been thinking too much.

Mathieu was up an early break in the first set.

But he's fighting now, breaking back in the 3rd!

I think Grosjean, assuming he closes this out, will beat Kiefer. ESPN is underrating Grosjean, overrating Kiefer. He's such an Australian Open beast!
