Your Fave Match of Aus Open?

So far what is your favourite match of the Australian open? You can update your decision when a new match is played which you like. I found the duel between Baghdatis and Stepanek very interesting but I think my fave comes from the match between Gaston and Santoro. If Gaston had won the match it would've been perfect but you have to say Santoro did well. :worship: Bravo gentlemen. The match also had an absolutely incredible point.

That's a shame. Why is that? A big fan of Andre, Marat and Rafa?

Nalby vs Nieminen was a great match

Malisse-Johansson was the best one so far for me.

The Hewitt/Chela match. I loved how in the last two sets, the camera kept panning to Bec, and she had the "deer in the headlights" look the whole time.

Haven't watched that many really, so it's Santoro vs Gaudio.

I missed that one unfortunately. One of the few matches I haven't seen any of at all.

Maybe a fave all time AO match would have been the ideal topic.

Malisse-Thomas yes, Malisse's temperament cost him the match.

Hewitt-Chela was great and so was Nieminen and Nalby :)

hewitt-chela. hewitt was a mess, but chela was on fire, and the tension was palpable.

Close second is santoro-gaudio, just because santoro is such a genius with a racket. Why is his ranking so low? Is he just overwhelmed by the baseline sluggers?

Hingis-Zvonareva.. oh wait this is MTF!

hmm.. Chela-Hewitt. I respect Hewitt but I do love to see him fall on his face :)

In the US they are only showing us Roddick, Serena, Davenport, Sharapova, Hingis for the most part. Of those shown I would say I liked watching Hingis the most but her matches were one sided. I would have liked to see the Gaudio v. Santoro match but they didn't show that.

It won't be until the 2nd week that we probably get to see good matches. I will be looking forward to seeing Hingis v. Cjlisters if that happens.

You stole my thinder, Pam. I was going to say that considering I've only seen the Williams sisters and Roddick, it would be hard to say. Yes, they have shown a few other matches, but they've generally reverted to their old form in terms of covering the players that they think will generate ratings.

I know it's a tough call in some cases, but just show the bleeping tennis. There's still plenty of time for Brad and others to opine about the Americans.

USA network took a huge step forward with their US Open coverage last year.

Yeah, from the ones I saw, it was Gaudio vs. Santoro.

I'm almost sure that Baghdatis vs. Stepanek was better, but they only showed the last few games here. :(

Well if the weather hadn't been too hot for me yesterday I'd have been there for Gaudio v Santoro and probably would agree... but I was at home where they insisted on showing boring one-sided matches instead of the exciting one on Vodafone

The best match I've been to has been Pavel v Moya. It may be the best match I've been to in quite a few years. With Andrei being such a favourite of mine it was delightful to see him playing some good tennis again in this match and it was a dramatic 5 setter with a great atmosphere so I loved it.

We US fans keep saying the same thing.....ESPN is either dense or dishonest. They say that unfortunately Americans don't care enough about foreign players and that tennis isn't very popular here....however ESPN itself has created that situation. They don't show the interesting foreign player match ups which doesn't let many fans get to know them and they bring down the interest in tennis by repetitively showing only American players even in one sided dull matches. Maybe in the day of Sampras it made sense to focus on Americans. Now there are better foreign players than US players so this tactic isn't right.

For my fellow americans irritated by the US-only coverage, I saw a few matches on live streams online (though irritated that the streams don't seem to be up now) at this site: http://sportsadvisory.com/index.html

when the tennis coverage is on, they'll post it on their homepage.

such a pleasure to not have to hear P-Mac say "the dropper!" umpteen times.
