Which of Andre's GS wins was your favorite?

I had a chance to watch a tape of Andre's 1992 Wimbledon final win over Ivanisevic recently. Wow, it seems like so long ago! What a surprise that was for him to win his first slam on grass!

My question is, which of Andre's GS wins was your favorite to watch? Here are the 8 options!:

1992 Wimbledon (5-set win over Ivanisevic on Andre's worst surface --defeated Becker and McEnroe on the way!)

1994 US Open (he was unseeded, right? He had been injured the year before)

1995 Australian (In addition to a new short haircut, he beat Sampras in the final).

1999 Roland Garros (Emotional comeback from 141 in the world. Completed the career Grand Slam and began the greatest period of his career with a nail-biting victory after losing the first two sets of the final!).

1999 US Open (continued his amazing comeback as No. 1 in the world with an exciting five-set victory over Todd Martin)

2000 Australian Open (the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to reach 4 consecutive GS finals! Andre's five-set win over Sampras in the semis was an incredible match -- too bad it wasn't the final!)

2001 Australian Open (defeated Arnaud Clement in the final and beat Pat Rafter in five sets in the semis)

2003 Australian Open (not as dramatic as some previous slams, but an absolutely masterful display of tennis, featuring demolitions such as 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 over Hyung-Taik Lee in the second round. With this win he joined the ranks of Connors and Lendl with 8 slams)

To be honest I've only seen Agassi play in the 2003 Australian Open, out of these match choices. I would have loved to see all of these though.

I would still pick 1999 Roland Garros however. Emotional come back from the depths of the tour and hard fought fight back from two sets down. And most of all, it completed his career Grand Slam...as well as started his string of consecutive GS successes. He was one match away from holding all four GS titles at the same time!

i think it was his french open win in 1999(?) against Menchikov....it was the run which started his ever-increasingly amazing run into what should be by all accounts his 'twilight years' (a la Pete Sampras)....when my coach used to videotape our practice sessions for me to watch later on, he would forget tp turn it off whenever we had one of our million arguments about agassi's potential to come back after being down to 141 in the rankings....i still laugh looking back as a kid who passionately argued for her favorite player (agassi was, still is, and always will be my favorite) even when he was down down down....the french open win was my crowning glory, especially when i got to shove it in my coach's face :)...ive had the chance to meet him several times and they have been the only time ive ever stuttered or been at a loss for words...this man is my hero of the sports world

I think I agree with you two, RG1999 was just such a surprise, and changed him from a "might-have-been" into a player who had accomplished something truly exceptional. It was so dramatic too!

Wimbledon 1992 was also pretty great, though. Andre had so much pressure after losing his first three GS finals. It was said that maybe he didn't have it in him to win the big one, and to do it on grass, at a tournament that he had skipped for years, against a phenomenal server and grass court player, made it even better.

I also was so happy to see him win AO2003, especially after his tough loss to Sampras in the USOpen 2002 final.

Oh Roland Garos. I didnt think the match was that great but the way he came back and the emotion afterwards was something i'll never forget. That was real history in the making.

I have his Wimeldon match on tape and saw it recently. That was a class match. They were saying back then he wasnt mentally great. How things have changed!

This yrs AO 2003 would be third, i loved his speech!

1.Roland Garros 99:: Andre said it himself "I knew after winning the French I would never regret anything about my career".
2.Aussie Open 03:: Andre moves to 6th on all-time GS list equal with Connors, also oldest man since 1972 to win a GS,.he clinched his legacy down under.
3.Wimbledon 92:: I personally disliked Agassi until he won Wimby, because I thought he was all flashy without substance^ amazing how perceptions can change, after securing the Grass slam it`s as if he knew it was his destiny to be an all time great, even for a die-hard Hewitt fan(I am) Andre`s ability to beat the odds & make history will always inspire me.... How did he pull it off~ the man`s a Fucking Genious (excuse my French)...!
Hand him a cigar, I can`t help but worship `Andre The Great`; also wearing baldness in style.

This is a real fascinating question, I think...my head is going to explode
trying to decide....Who Could Not Love The First One On Grass?? It was
so unexpected (the surface not that he could win)...but then the 1994
US Open where he was unseeded....talk about EARNING a Grand Slam..
but then we go to the 1995 Aussie Open (any time Andre takes out
Pete Sampras, that's a PLUS)... BUT wait...there is Roland Garros....
The Victory That Puts Andre in the elite class ....AND one final thought..
the 1999 US Open Victory over Todd Martin - I know it wasn't the
match the others may have been, but I was there live in the stands,
so how can I not consider it???

OK, if I must pick....that 1994 US OPEN - Andre went thru so much to
taste that victory! I pick that by a photo finish over the French Open
which in its own way may have been THE ONE.

Should have been a poll for this. But for me, 1994 USO as an unseeded player.

I choose the 1999 French Open simply because it completed his quest for a career grand slam.

JUst a clarification though. Didn't Agassi beat Sampras in the semis of the 1995 Australian, not in the finals? Also, in the 1999 French, Agassi defeated Medvedev [not Menchikov(?)]

No, Agassi beat Sampras in the finals of the '95 Australian. He beat Sampras in the semis of the 2000 Australian. Hope that helps. :)

I have to agree with the community. Andre's 99 Roland Garros win. It was an amazing match and Andre was playing some of his best.

I think he was too tired in the legs in the 2004 US Open Final. I think he was playing better than Sampras that whole tournament until the Final. I could see he was glued to the floor and couldn't hustle enough. If he took it to a 5th set I think he'd win it though (like in the 2000 Oz Open Semi).

On the subject of other great matches: The 1995 US Open Final vs Pete Sampras (until Agassi lost). It was the ulitmate matchup that we always hope to see - Sampras vs Agassi in the Final of the US Open. Agassi had his fashion-show in full flow at that point of his career. Very entertaining match but it seemingly broke Agassi's spirit for years. So it can be a little depressing to see that match, so I instead watch the match before that (semi-final vs Becker 1995 US Open) cos that is the last time we see that particular incarnation of Agassi winning and in full-flight. I remember after that US Open Agassi's mood seemed to change. In the 1996 Australian Open I remember Agassi letting the expletives fly viciously. The frustration of being the golden boy of tennis all summer and losing that one match that counted right at the end to his nemesis.
