I hope somebody asks him what Hingis thought of his blog. I already submitted a comment about him jinxing the male players at the AO this week.

I have enjoyed some of Justin’s blog work and writings. But I feel like I already know quite a bit about him – in large part because I have read interviews and writings However, I am quite interested in Marcos Baghdatis :hearts: so I may ask Justin about his impressions of Marcos.

cobalt60
01-19-2006, 08:03 PM
Thanks Fee I liked the most recent blog. Good to know it is easy for players to get tickets for friends and family. I had been led to believe otherwise ;) Sorry it is an in joke.

Fee
01-19-2006, 08:13 PM
I think it varies from tournament to tournament. Indian Wells seems to be pretty stingy with player tickets. Doesn't surprise me that the AO would be the most easy going about it.

I'm having a hard time figuring if he is doing his own typing. The spelling looks like him, the punctuation is new. Must be someone else

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:13 PM ET ) Hey everybody, I just woke up. Rust ordered some room service. I've got a doubles match later on today. I guess I'll just talk to you guys while I wait for my breakfast.

joe, mo: Justin, Do ever sneak out on the tourney grounds & catch some matches?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:14 PM ET ) Sure, yeah. I'm a tennis fan just as much as you are. I love watching matches. I check out exciting matches all the time.

Doug Austin Texas: If you did not become a professional tennis player, what profession do you think you would have chosen.

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:15 PM ET ) That's a good question. If not tennis, I think I would like to be a sports broadcaster.

Dr Sue (Yarmouth Maine): Morning to you. Any idea what you'd like to do after your tennis playing days are over? Loved your tennis channel show.

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:17 PM ET ) Thanks Sue. That show was a good experience for me while I was injured. Maybe that will lead me to that career after I'm through playing.

Mike (Florida): What do you think has limited your progression deeper into a grand slamDo you think that your fitness has been your main problem in order to get deeper into grand slam tournaments. Your serve and volley game is great.

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:18 PM ET ) Yeah, I think best of 5 sets are definitely physically demanding. I have a tendancy to get worn down a little quicker than the rest of the guys.

John (London, England): Do you think that grass is your best surface, since you love diving on the green stuff at the big W. Good match with hewitt last year

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:19 PM ET ) Thanks John. I think that yes grass probably gives me the best chance to be successful becuase I'm more comforable attacking the net especially with so many guys just playing from the baseline these days.

Erika, Los Angeles, Ca: Justin, any plans for Indian Wells this year? If so, singles or doubles?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:20 PM ET ) Yes, for sure I'll be playing there. Looks like I'll have to play for qualifying in singles and I don't know if I'll get in to the doubles, but I'll be there.

Jason from melbourne, australia: cheers mate, What are your predictions for you buddy nathan healey. If memory serves, I think you and he were doubles partners. Do you think he can go far? Get fitter buddy, for the big W. All the best for o6 mate. Jason

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:21 PM ET ) Thanks Jason. Nathan has had a great tournament getting to the third round, I hope he can keep it going but it only gets tougher from this point on.

hal, mo: Isn't even the name Roger Federer putting you to sleep nowadays? How 'bout some dirt on the guy? (He was cranky to fans before he became Mr. Nice Guy.)

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:22 PM ET ) My advice to you is to start appreciating what Roger is bringing to tennis. He is the most complete, all-around, free-flowing player that we've ever seen. Knowing him personally, he's also as genuine and kind as any top champ could be.

Garrett Orange,California: Do you see andy roddick as a potention threat to roger if they make it to the final, does he finally have the game to challenge fed?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:24 PM ET ) I predicted a Roddick-Federer final initially and I still do. A great part about Roddick's game is that he is already strong in much of his game, but he also has so much room to improve. That said, at THIS point, I don't see anyone good enough to compete with Roger.

Michelle (Queens, NYc): I loved your match with gonzalez. You were diving, and making plays that federer would be proud of. Very entertaining. Did you realize that you were pleasing the crowd with your antics

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:25 PM ET ) Honestly, whenever I'm out there, my only goal is to win. I'll do anything it takes to do that. Diving around has nothing to do with entertainment, it's about giving me the best chance to win the point so that I can win a match. ... I'm glad that people do seem to enjoy it, but that's kind of just an added benefit.

Fee: Justin, your SI blog is becoming a jinx. Please write something about James Blake's next opponent as soon as you can! No mixed doubles this week?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:28 PM ET ) Yeah, I know! The predictions haven't been great so far this tournament, but I still stand by my Davenport - Federer predictions. James is going to have a great oportunity to win tonight.

Shawn (Miami, Florida): Do you have any more goals you want to achieve in tennis. Getting you the second of a major, top 10 ranking, or into the year end championship. I think you can. You are still young look at agassi. Best luck in 06

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:32 PM ET ) My goals are to try and get into the Top 50 in the world. I keep trying to reach my potential ... whatever that is.

graham vancouver: hey, J. what others sports do you play to keep sharp for your tenis?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:33 PM ET ) I love playing basketball and I do a lot of cycling. I like lifting weights, too.

Vishwarath (Hyderabad, India): Hopefully, I'll get through this time! How do you cope with injuries and cortisone shots?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:35 PM ET ) Injuries are just another part of high-level athletics. You just have to try and make your body as strong as possible. Unfortunately, I have a lot of familiarity with cortizone shots. I've had a bunch in my back, it's one of the sad parts of dealing with all the activity that tennis demands, physically. It's just the nature of the beast, I guess.

Natalie (Montreal) : Favorite music. Favorite music to get you psyched for a match?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:37 PM ET ) I love U2 and ColdPlay and Eminem.

Mike (Sudbury, MA): Justin, what athletes do you admire in other sports?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:40 PM ET ) Of course. I admire Derek Jeter and Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird...

Rose (Los Angeles): Hey Justin! What do you think is the biggest difference between Challengers and the ATP level?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:41 PM ET ) Just the consistent high-level of play from beginning to end of matches.

kc, ny: Justin, Did they make you promise not to diss television coverage of tennis?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:41 PM ET ) Definitely not. No one could make me supress my opinion. I call it the way I see it.

Simon (Denmark): How do you think the game has changed in the last ten years. Do you think it has become more power based or does the finesse of federer and hingis still have a role.

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:42 PM ET ) I think that with the progression of the rackets, it has made it harder for attacking players. Courts are slower, players are stronger. The game has just evolved so much. It's the most competitive as it has ever been.

Stefan (Sweden): How would you like to be remembered when you retire?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:43 PM ET ) I'd like to be remembered, period. That's a good start. I'd like to be thought of as someone who tried his hardest and enjoyed the game and really tried to be the best he can be.

Maria, LI, NY: Justin, I soooo luv your blog! Of course the players' lounge is boring YOU, but the fans want to know....Who thinks he's too sexy for his tennis racquet?, too sexy for his shoes, too sexy for his hair?, etc.! (is it you?!)

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:45 PM ET ) It's definitely not me! Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco spend as much time in the mirror as they do on the court. They are the top scorers on the All-Vanity team.:haha: :haha:

Maria (Italy): Hi Justin, I know there are many questions... but please just answer mine by a yes or no, I don't ask more : does Brian Macphie, one of your former doubles partner, retired ?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:46 PM ET ) Brian just had a baby daughter. Dylan Jade. He has retired and he is living in southern California with his wife, Crosby.

coop (OC, California): Hey Justin I think your the most fun player to watch in tennis. And if your at Indian Wells this year, I'll be there. Just keep truckin and I was wondering if the Hewitt match was the most fun of your career?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:48 PM ET ) Thanks. That Hewitt match was right up there with some of the other high-profile matches on big courts but I think it would be more fun if I could finally win one of those. But yes, playing a top player in a Grand Slam on center court is always thrilling.

Harry Alton, Eastbourne, UK: In the UK, Tim Henman's serve-volley game is being described as "out of date" because of the modern baseline power game. Since I think you are one of the few remaining examples of a serve-volley player, would you care to provide a riposte to that view? Thanks.

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:50 PM ET ) Well, unfortunatley, because of the slower courts and new synthetic strings, the game has gone away from our serve-volley, it's not easy to be an attacking player anymore. It's really moved into a power baseline game.

Nat (Melbourne): Do you like Australia? Are you having fun? What do you think about aussie girls? ;-)

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:52 PM ET ) Melbourne is a great city, Australia is a great country, it's always a pleasure to come down here. The people are so friendly. I think Australia has beautiful and fun females.

Lorie (NY): Can you tell us some gossips from the locker rooms? I promise it'll remain a secret between you and us! ;-) (btw I love your blog!!)

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:53 PM ET ) There are no secrets in Cyberspace! But, it's all in my blog. Players are just getting ready for matches, coaches are helping the process. It's just basically guys getting ready for work. Nothing too exciting.

Abid (Fredericton, NB Canada): Who are some of your best friends on the tour?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:54 PM ET ) James Black, Robbie Ginepri, the Bryan twins,

Jane (Los Angeles): Hey Justin! You and Corina are so cute. She seems amazing - what have you learned from her?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:57 PM ET ) She is great, I'm very lucky. I have learned that you need to find the balance between your personal life and your professional life.

Milka: Are you still waiting for your breakfast? what kind of hotel are you staying at, seriously??? :p

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:57 PM ET ) It just arrived! But I'm loyally trying to answer as many questions as possible. We are staying at a great hotel called the Crown Casino.

Matt (Sacramento,CA): Will you be playing any doubles with Brandon Coupe in 2006?? You guys seems to click well together..

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (5:58 PM ET ) Brandon is my coach. We play once in awhile at some of the smaller tournaments when he is there coaching me. We might play in a challenger here or there during the year, but not too much.

Joe (Sydney): What will you do with teh rest of your stay in Australia?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (6:00 PM ET ) I'm still playing doubles so hopefully that will go well. I can focus on that ... and, of course, I'll keep updating my blog!

Léa (Lausanne): What's you schedule for next month?

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (6:01 PM ET ) Ill be playing in DelRay Beach, Fla, San Jose, Memphis and Las Vegas ...

SportsNation Justin Gimelstob : (6:01 PM ET ) Alright guys, sorry I've got to eat now. Thanks for joining me and asking all these great questions!
