The Mule swam with The Shark and survived!

This match has great potential to be the best in the Round of 32. Bandy still hasn't completely matched the expectations generated by his TMC title, and struggled to get past his first two opponents (although Wawrinka can be quite dangerous), while Nieminen is riding a wave of confidence since his title in Auckland and still hasn't lost a set in this tournament. Nalba leads the H2H 4-3, but Nieminen's 3 victories have come on hard courts.

David is the favourite here, but it wouldn't be extremely shocking if Jarkko makes through. Who do you think that will win this match?

Jarkko in straight sets.

totally agree. as for who will finaly take this match, I hate to guess in exact sets, but based on their current form(during past 2 matches) and the head to head (http://www.atptennis.com/en/players/headtohead/head2head.asp?player1=David+Nalbandian&player2=Jarkko+Nieminen) reacord, Jarkko has a better chance to win. However, David has gained a lot of confidence from the matches in Shanghai,if he could step up and play on a better form,he also has a good chance to win. Hope he has a good rest tonight and can concentrate on his play tomorrow.(I'll have some girls scream outside Jarkko's hotel room at night;)---kidding! maybe this's more effective on David, considering Jarkko's married :o )

I had a real difficult time with this section of the draw (Robredo, Blake, Nieminen, Nalbandian). I've got Nieminen over Nalbandy in 4.

Nieminen in five, very possibly. In any event, this is going to be very entertaining.

Nalbandian likes to fly under the radar, and, stomach virus be damned, I think he'll win. Jarkk the Shark won't go down without a fight, though.

tough choice, they both belong to my top favourite players... I think David will win but I suppose my heart will be this time more after Jarkko.

one thing is sure, they both like DRAMA.

Nalbandian will win it in five in my opinion. I guess for this result:

6-7 6-4 6-1 5-7 6-3

I think Jarkko is up for the task. The problem is he has a habit of losing composure when in a lead (or, as Nathaliia said, he likes DRAMA ;) ). That's why it's going to go to 5 sets, with The Shark finally coming through 6-4 in the 5th!!!

The Mule?? I thought that nickname belongs to Rusedski

Anyway, tough to call. My gut instinct says Nieminen will pull the upset but never count David out either, he is a survivor. I'll go out on a limb and say Jarkko in 4 (meaning I just doomed him to defeat ;) ).

I just want to add that it all depends on David- if he is still feeling the effects of the stomach bug and he puts in the kind of performance Hewitt did today Jarkko will most probably be in the winner's circle. However if he is at his absolute best, he will win.

Nalbandian's nickname in his hometown (Unquillo) is "La Mula". ;)

I want to go with conventional logic and say David, but if he's still feeling the effects of that virus, who knows? Then again, the Mule swam with Sharks and came out OK. ;)

It was a name his late father gave him. I guess it would mean "stubborn".

Well done David :worship:

Nieminen looked really dangerous in that first set and the first couple of games in the 2nd set but David finally picked up his form and has played so much better than in his previous two rounds. I think he is over that hurdle of rustiness/illness and from this point on he will be very tough to stop.
