Hewitt finished

Not just from this tournament but his career is pretty much finished. He can't even reach grand slam 3rd rounds anymore?

Look for excuses from him now like injury and how the surface was funny etc...

See esther's thread for more details. The comms already made the excuses.

Andy Roddick couldn't make the 2nd round at USO last year. Notice he's still in your sig (because it's ONE tournament)

Congrats to Chela. Glad to see there was no spitting or other agro this year :)

He has always played poorly at the Oz except for last year. This year's result isn't the aberration, it was last year's result. Don't count him out so quickly. You'll probably come off lookin like a damn idiot before the end of the year. And believe me, someone will be itchin to bump this thread when the time comes.

he's not finished but the next two or three months will be the most difficult of his career - after that he will rebounce

He'll be fine. He's just in a little slump after having 3 tough loses. He's too much of fighter just to give up.

According to the commentators it was the paint on the sidelines being different from the paint on the baselines. Congrats to Chela.

His career is finished because he's had a rough start to the year? That makes sense?

He didn't play enough tennis for this Australian Open and for high level tennis.

yup Hewitt just doesn't play well at the AO. funny thing though his record at home in the Davis Cup is much better.

I don't believe he's finished. he'll be there or therebouts at Wimbledon and the US Open. top 10 easily and top 5 probably (by year's end) especially if Safin has a stop/start year as I believe he will.

He's not finished yet. He's still young and will come back. He's one of the mentally strongest players around.

However, now he has a family of his own, his priorities have changed. That could be the difference.

Good luck next time, Lleyton.

Not really. The only reason why Hewitt is finished is that he hyped himself up too much. He thought he would dominate like Federer is dominating now but he didn't. Other players didn't think that because they didn't fluke grand slams when the competition was weak.

Yes, Lleyton's time as one of the top is over.
He's gonna get wiped in 2006, and probably go winless on clay.

Worst case scenario; he decides to continue playing.

Feel bad for leyton, this is the one he really wants to win and he lose to a guy that he must really want to deafeat for last year's incident

But Congrats anyhow to Chela. That is a pretty convincing win

Like others have said: Hewitt never really performed that well in the AO so even though it's tempting for some, it's a bit premature to celebrate the demise of his career as a tennis player.

Not just from this tournament but his career is pretty much finished. He can't even reach grand slam 3rd rounds anymore? Hmmm....let's see, hope I've done this research correctly.

2004
AO 4R
RG QF
Wimbledon QF
USO Finalist

2005
AO Finalist
RG DNP
Wimbledon SF
USO SF

And losing to the eventual winner in all seven he played in? One bad slam...and you're ready to write him off. You go right ahead.

I doubt that he's finished. He had some health problems at the end of last and beginning of this year, and the birth of Mia must have turned his world upside down in so many ways. It can't be overestimated how much a baby changes the parents' life. I think given time he'll be able to adjust to the new situation and find his focus again. I hope he has a lot of tennis left in him. Even though I'm not his fan, I think he makes the game more interesting, so I'm looking forward to seeing the old Lleyton back. :)

What?!?!

Finished...lol...no way. Hewitt had a crappy start to his season, and he's had alot to deal with. I think everyone should look for Hewitt to come back 100% by the end of the year.

Hewitt...gosh...he just never really materialized.

Number 1 in the world bah...evan Roddick did that.

Won the year end Masters cup...meh, luck of the draw.

Won two slams on two different surfaces...bah, everyone was injured and talentless.

Shit loads of titles and a few masters...haha, Nadal did that last year too and everyone know he's just a steriod junkie pulling weggies and shouting "vamos", means nuthin.

Hewitt your a waste. Now, Ljubicic there's a guy that materialized. He won a dc...and.......and...um...he won....um...sumtin else....too...

Fumus, hee. Well done.

I don't understand why some people who don't like Hewitt find it impossible to respect him. I've never made a secret of the fact that I"m not overly fond of him, but I certainly respect him as a player. It's stupid not to.

I am glad you approve Miss Bopper.

Yea infact, it's like with any player on this board. They could be winning everything but people don't respect them and cosider their game crap. I am not a Roger fan but, I do take much delight in watching him beat people senseless. I respect him. I don't respect players when I think they suck or they are flukey, they piss me off for getting my hopes up..Robby, Mardy!!

Yeah, and what's your excuse for being a broken record. Try and learn to show some respect to players, even if you don't like them, because these threads are getting old.

uhh, finished like he was in 2003? riight.
like someone said earlier, he has a baby now and his priorities have changed. He also hasn't played much in the past couple of months, and there's too much pressure for him to do well in his home slam.

Hewitt is far from finished. It did seem like he hadn't practiced in quite some time, but he'll be back. He's just rusty and I'm no great fan of Hewitt, but he is a top 5 player...........nevertheless, congrats to Chela :)

Now have a think about what you are continually doing on these threads esp in relation to Hewitt ... for surely it's the same thing that a racist or homophobe does .... they HATE. And guess what - it really doesn't matter what form it takes - it's all the same thing.

Yes, I mean, one or two incidents in one's life should define you forever, right? I mean, you've never made mistake of this kind in your life, Mr.Holier-than-thou?

In that case let me add to the list of ppl you shouldn't respect.

Charles Dickens--racist (his statements after the 1857 mutiny)
A.C Doyle--Racist (read his descriptions of Indians)
Shakespeare, Marlowe--Shylock and Barabas, need I say more?
T.S Eliot
Winston Churchill (statements about Gandhi)
Gandhi
and on and on and on....

Oooooh And God (I mean if telling a few ppl that they're "chosen" isn't racism, what is?)

Ok... Last year he got to 2 semi finals and a grandfinal. One grand slam he hasn't done well in a long time. He's grand slam record is just awful isn't it??
