Very nice match from Chela. :hatoff: Two excellent matches in a row from him.

Hewitt looked awful and I thought for sure he'd choke away the tiebreak in the third. Sloppy service games in the fourth were his death knoll. Two horrible matches in a row from him. :(

Yea, this is pretty sad, Roger's draw has now been busted wide open and there is no one to stand in his way, from progessing to a 2nd Aussie final.

Hewitt just has to learn how to best manage family life and tennis and once he does that he will be right. So in that sense this year is quite possibly one of his most important years from a career perspective, if he can't handle it he will slip outside the top 10 and become just one of your run in the mill solid top 30 player.

He was shocking tonight, 65 odd UE's in one match, that number of UE's is usually how many he committs over 3 rounds in a GS.

Bottom line was, chela was too good.

He has Haas, Koyla, and maybe Coria. They are tough players.

BG, are you very sad now?

But yeah, Hewitt doesn't seem to be himself this year. Did the baby mess up his preparation for the season?

Haas has the ability to provide a match worthy of a SF.

Yes, that backhand was particularly amazing. I never remember him hitting it so hard and aggressively. At one point I think his ratio of winners on the backhand to the forehand was 2:1.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. And he made it look so effortless and fluid. I think this is the best match I've seen him play in a loooooong time, even on clay. :)

I, for one, am sad that Hewitt lost. :(
I like him.

He was outplayed, however.

Something was wrong with Hewitt for sure, not his usual self. However Chela played great and would not fold.

Chela saved his emotion for match point when he let out a primal shriek. :p
I was impressed with his composure this time.
After last year's antics, there was something anti-climactic about this match.
It was devoid of energy. The crowd, and Lleyton, just never got into it.

Despite the 2005 AO match, Chela is not what can be called an emotional player on court ;)

Even Federer would get "emotional" with Hewitt's behaviour back then. ;)

I went to sleep at 4.30am because I was following some other matches (time difference is huge here) I woke up at 5.30am to watch Juan playing live against Hewitt, my eyes hurt sooo bad... but I don't care... you know why?

:bounce: Juan won!!!! :worship: Congratulations Juan!!! :D

So disappointing from Lleyton. He seemed to be missing some intensity and some of the unforced errors were so unlike him. He just hasn't played very well at all in the Australian tournaments. Chela was relentless though and was just too good.

Chela played really really well!
I didn't know he was capable of that.
Why is he ranked in the 50s??
Too bad that Hewitt wasn't at his best most of the time.
I was hoping for a 5 setter.

Chela served incredibly during the crucial moments.

Which makes me wonder. Jim Courier mentioned that he was 6'3", which I didn't know before. At that height, Chela could definitely make his serve more of a weapon. Maybe his upbringing sort of contributed to it being an average serve rather than a great one?
