Lleyton failed to servive this time. Chela is not the one who often chokes. I didn't watch the match. I reckon Lleyton had a bad performance. He even needed 7 SP's to get a set from Chela.
well done,Chela:yeah:

I think Juan played very very nice. :hearts: But the most important thing is he didn't choke overall to save many bps! I mean even he lost TB but he saved sps a lot and he lost 8-10 becoz Hewitt played winner not he hit ue. :)

Congrats Juan! :smooch::rocker2::yippee:

don't feel bad, he beat me to it too. and now i'm that idiot with a duplicate thread :p

Lleyton looked bad most of the match though. No fire, no desire. He wasn't aggressive enough and made far too many unforced errors. His first serve percentage sucked most of the match, and his second serves were pretty weak. He apparently had a blister attended to midway through the third set as well.

There were no insults, spitting nor anything at all. Nothing from either one of them. But it was a very nice and entertaining match :)

Also, it was good to see Tipsy Janko playing well. He was really close to taking that match, and there was one sitter volley that he dumped into the net that really turned the tide in that fourth set.

Chela :worship:

He played so well, was aggressive, really took it to Hewitt, and above all was not fazed by the crowd or his opponenet. This is the best I have ever seen him play, a thouroughly deserved victory :yeah:

Hewitt on the other hand was flat and made some strange errors- definitely not the Hewitt we are all used to. He called for the trainer midway through the match to have his ankle taped.

What I was most surprised and impressed with was the fact that this time there were no antics whatsoever involving either player. Not one "c'mon" from Hewitt, and even when Chela got some dodgy calls, he didn't question them, he just turned away and got on with the business. Very professional. My commentators said that Chela was "under strict orders not to antagonize the Aussie crowd" after last year's incident.

All due credit to Chela he held tough played well and didn't choke. Great win for him.

This def wasen't the Hewitt of old. He had some good moments but over all it was a poor showing.

Both guys behaved themselves. The media just loves to make a big deal of nothing really.

I also noticed Hewitt's level is definitely lower than last year:sad: I hope he can come back, his agressiveness and his consistency are just not the same..

hewitt is a fucking joke now.
he loses to kohlschrieber, seppi
and almost to vik
now chela.
sampras sucked for a long time after getting married until his run at the USO.
the same thing is happening to hewitt, though hewitt won't win another slam

Yeah, in fact I always knew it would be like this. Heated matches come out of nowhere - and definitely not when the media or the crowd are trying to anticipate it.

Chela play was really good. I don't how he could lose to Karlovic and Melzer in the AO tune-ups.

After watching that match I am sick to my stomach. Hewitt was beyond horrible for the majority of that match.

Kudos to Chela for taking his chances and holding up under the pressure, but IMO that match was handed to him on a platter thanks to the way Hewitt played.

No first serves, plenty of unforced errors even though most of the time Hewitt's game plan seemed to be just trying to keep the ball in play and worst of all their was no fire or passion coming from the Aussie.

It has been like that all summer for Hewitt and hopefully he can figure out what the problem is otherwise it is going to be a very long year for him.

Very well played by Chela! :bigclap: I watched the last two sets of the match - he had some really brilliant shots (some of his returns were WOW!) but what was especially impressive was how cool and collected he was and how well he played on break points. Hewitt obviously was not at his best, he played some great points but also made way too many errors. I'm not sure how much of it was the ankle that he had treated, but more importantly, his focus seemed to come and go, which really made the difference. Still, all credit to Chela for taking the match, it was a tricky one to win; he bagan to cramp in the fourth set and had it gone to five ...
Also, like RonE, considering what happened last year I was very impressed with both the players' and the Aussie fans' behaviour, well done!
Overall Lleyton's Australian campaign was far from successful. Some time ago he claimed that his competitive spirit was still there, but today he did look flat and unfocused. I don't think he is finished but it'll be interesting to see how he does from now on and how much time he needs to get back on track.
I wonder how much his ranking will suffer after this.

:bounce: :bounce: Congrats to Chela :hatoff:
He played very smartly and focused. Clearly he tried to maintain the calm, to play focused on his plan, not giving angles and much power (sometimes). Many times, only with speed changes, and very slow balls, or playing to the center, he looked for Hewitt errors. (because hewitt uses like nobody the power and the angles of the opponent strokes).
Also Chela had a good service, coverall at the most difficult moments under pressure, and a parallel backhand that he used very well.
