26.12.05 Marat News
Regrettably we have to announce that Marat has withdrawn from playing in the Russian Team at the Hopman Cup. His place will be taken by Teimuraz Gabashvili.
Although Marat has been working hard in Valencia, he feels that it would be too soon to start at the Hopman Cup and feels he should spend more time getting ready for the defence of his title at the Australian Open.

+ Letter from Marat
Hello to all my fans!

It is now near to the end of the year 2005 and although the year started very well and I won my 2nd Grand Slam title, the rest of the year has not been too good.

It is never easy when a tennis player has a long time away being injured and I have had lots of thoughts about the game and being sad about being injured and not healthy to play on the courts. I miss it of course because it is my job and I love it.

Now I am busy working hard in Valencia to get myself back to be fit again and to try to defend my title in Australia. After all these years, I know my tennis and I know what I have to do.

I promise I will try very hard and I want to thank all my fans for all their support. They have always been there for me and it is very important.

So I want to wish you all a very happy holidays and for both me and my fans - a good year in 2006.

Peace and health be with you all

Marat

it will be difficult for him to come back: how many points he will lose if he cannot defend hi title?

What news really ? Nothing unexpected has happened so far. We knew Marat was not going to play Hopman. He told he gonna start playing only at AO. He told he'd have rehub as late as mid of December and he couldn't work on his fitness. He went to Valencia and we have no news about something that not going according to the plan. So what happened that makes you panic more than before ? Opinion of tournament director which is mostly based on the fact that Marat don't play Hopman, but like I said we knew it already.

He won't play AO neither, even that is not so much news...Dinara said it already at the start of his period in Valencia, remember? now is the Director...I think Marat will be back for clay season, so finally he will be 1 year out of tennis just as if he had had surgery

Dinara didn't say it. She supposedely said he's in doubt. If he planned to be back for clay season he wouldn't practice in Valencia now. There would be no need to rush. Have some sense really. I'm not saying he'll 100% play, I'm saying he'll try to get fit by AO, nothing's decided yet so we should wait and see.
As for tournament director, all he knows is that Marat has not played since August and that he pulled out of Hopman, so he made his conclusions. It's not like some insider information the others don't know.

ok, i know: all is supposed and it is not official...but do you think a Director of a Slam would announce Safin is in doubt if were for real just a doubt?? there are million of fans waiting for Safin in AO, and his absence will be bad for the tournament...so i don't think the director would have say that if the possibilities of Marat going there were real. He went to Valencia to start his preparation: someday he has to start, right? to come back...but reality is reality: how could he defend his title without touching a racket for even 6 months??? it would be insane to do that. I think maybe he will be in Valencia for next 3 months starting slowly his practice and then he will come back in April for clay season (for which Valencia practice is very good). And clay is the best surface for his knee. I think this is the plan and i think it is wise. My opinion and my thought.

Seriously, all this is a lot of blah blah blah from EVERYONE BUT Marat and I mean OK, people like us can blab away coz noone except for ourselves comes in here anyway but people like the AO Director shouldn't stay going how he SUPPOSES Marat MIGHT withdraw until Marat actually DOES withdraw. Eurosport, Reuters..it's EVERYWHERE...speculation, speculation..everyone thinks they know it all. I am not saying he WILL play, we all know this might not happen and God forbid he goes out to play not being fully fit, but I wish people whom the whole world reads and listens to would shut up unless they REALLY have something official to say

This is not a matter of touching a racquet!!!! If you know how to do something you do not forget HOW to do it in 6 months..he DID NOT FORGET how to play tennis, he never will. It's a matter of physical condition. He has not been TRAINING HIS LOWER BODY for 6 months, that's the problem. He needs strength to run and move on court...it has nothing to do with touching a racquet. He has been at it since he was a baby, he can't forget how to play

Seriously, WHY cannot we speculate and talk while Marat is not there??????? all my suppositions came into real when everybody told to me: shut up until the official announcement..., bla,bla,bla....I said he won't play Shangai, he said already and everybody said: It is not offivcial yet? so what?? WHY we cannot talk, we are not doing anything wrong,,,just talking about what we think is the thing. My speculation is he coming back in April for clay season and i have ther right to say that. I think it is a good thing to think how the reality is and not have fake expectations.

of course he doesn't forget how to play!!! but you know (i play tennis and i know it) that you lose the feeling of the ball when you are not playing for a while, and it was 6 months!! all the players know how difficult is to come back after a loing injury....and Peter said in last interview that will be so hard for Marat to come back in form: he lost a lot of muscular mass...I am just trying to think reality and think the consequences of his condiitons, i want the best for him as all of us.

ok, i know: all is supposed and it is not official...but do you think a Director of a Slam would announce Safin is in doubt if were for real just a doubt?? there are million of fans waiting for Safin in AO, and his absence will be bad for the tournament...so i don't think the director would have say that if the possibilities of Marat going there were real. He went to Valencia to start his preparation: someday he has to start, right? to come back...but reality is reality: how could he defend his title without touching a racket for even 6 months??? it would be insane to do that. I think maybe he will be in Valencia for next 3 months starting slowy his practice and then he will come back in April for clay season (for which Valencia practice is very good). And clay is the best surface for his knee. I think this is the plan and i think it is wise. My opinion and my thought.

ok, I respect your opinion. Just want to make some points
1. Tournamnt director didn't say that Marat is in doubt. He didn't say he talked to Marat. He only expressed his own his opinion about Marat's chances to defend the title and chances of him playing.
2. Of course he has no chances to defend title, but this doesn't mean he won't play if he's reletively fit.
3. If his knee is ok now Marat doesn't need 3 monthes to get fit. One month (may be a little more) would be enough, so he'd return earlier than clay season. Like I have alreay said if didn't plan to play AO he'd have stayed in Moscow and have a longer treatment in Moscow, celebrate New Year and would go to Valencia after that.
4. If his knee is not ok now (I don't even want to thik about it) that would mean that treatment doesn't help and he'd have no other choice but make surgery. So we would forget about clay season and 2006.

Maria, Shanghai is a bad example. Marat and Dinara both told in October that he'll start playing only at AO. So it was almost official. I never expected him to play MC. Now situation is different: Marat in all his intervews says that he'll TRY to get fit by AO.

hi, Mer, well it was not exactly what happened. He said also in the last interviews of 2005 and in the official site was said too, that he wantexd to reach Shangai. But at same time we heard some things like: "I need 2 months more". I started to say he won't play Shangai and all the people was telling me: "shut up until this is official". Now i said dinara said that Marat thinks he won't make it to Aussi Open and Annie told me that this is just a supposition...so why we can take dinara's word before, and why we cannot take dinara's words NOW telling that is difficult that he will play AO?

anyway i am just an observer: about Valencia, he always said he prefers to train in Valencia and not in Moscow because of the weather and other conditions. He didn't even start to practice from the last news we had from Valencia, he was just finishing his rehab. according to his own words. So, no way he will be fit to play AO. He always did bad in Miami and Wells, so i bet he will start in April clay season. But i won't say it anymore.
Happy New Year for all of you and for Marat of course!!!

i know the manager there and he sent me an email today to say marat is there...he hasn't seen him yet but he has spoken to dinara who told him marat has not recovered properly yet and is in doubt of playing in Australia

So we have a manager who spoke to Dinara, we don't know what she said exactly. Let's suppose she said what was posted.

2 cups milk

1 3/4 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon vanilla

4 cups heavy cream

1 cup chocolate chip cookie dough

2 cups light cream

Scald milk until bubbles form around edge. Remove from heat. Add the sugar and salt. Stir until dissolved. Stir in light cream, vanilla, and the heavy cream. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Freeze as directed by your ice cream machine's instructions. Once ice cream has been through the entire ice cream machine process and is now a chilled soft ice cream, add the chocolate chip cookie dough. Just break up the dough as best you can with your hands and drop it in small clusters into the soft ice cream. Try to mix it around to ensure that the cookie dough is evenly distributed throughout the ice cream. Put the ice cream in the freezer for several hours until hardened.

I think cookie dough ice cream is chocolate chip ice cream   ;)

My guess it's more like crushed chocolate chip cookies, mingled in with the ice cream.

words from Marat

International Tennis Federation
Media Release
27 December 2005

SAFIN OUT OF HOPMAN

Continuing knee problems (tendonitis of right knee) have forced Russia’s Marat Safin out of Hyundai Hopman Cup XVIII in Perth. Safin was to partner Svetlana Kutnezsova who will now be partnered by 20 year old Teimuraz Gabashvili.

Safin said “I am very disappointed to have to pull out of the 2006 Hopman Cup due to a longer than expected recuperation period of my right knee tendonitis. It is an event that I have taken part regularly over the past years and one of my favourite events of the year. I hope to catch up what I will be missing this year in 2007”.

It's possible, seems to be a trend now. :p

Now that we're discussing it, today at "work" we were discussing expired products. Obviously you can't sell those anymore to patients but usually they're not gone bad if they have only recently expired. You can normally send those products back to the company but sometimes the owners will still use them. We were talking about some kind of herbal tea. We had found a box of tea that was almost expired so the guy I work for was saying "people haven't bought that brand of tea in 4 years, it's gonna expire soon, let's just take it home, I'll drink it". And his wife was kinda laughing at him and she says to me": "he'll use everything! Once he used an expired Viagra!" :tape:
Which was kinda funny because the guy is like 33 or so. ;) And no, I did not ask any further questions. (It must've helped though, she's 8 months pregnant now with their 3rd kid) :p

I don't know if it's a forbidden product. It's stimulating alright :aplot: but I'm guessing not in a way the officials are interested in. I'm not even sure they would screen for it.
Besides, it's highly unlikely someone aged 16-35 would be needing viagra (altough I have heard it goes around in the party scene to compensate for the unwanted effects that alcohol and some drugs have down there :p )

you biology teacher sucks then :o (sorry.. )

For all those interested: (can't believe I'm about to give everyone a lecture on viagra in the "Marat news & articles"-thread  )

Whenever there is erotic stimulation an enzyme is made by the body, the cGMP (cyclic guanosin mono phosphate) which causes the muscles in the penis to relax, thus blood can enter in the penis => erection. This cGMP is broken down by another enzyme, the PDE (Phospho diesterase enzyme). PDE and cGMP are made at the same time. When the erotic stimulation stops (=eg after ejaculation) the production of cGMP stops while the production of PDE still goes on. => all the remaining cGMP is broken down, the arteries are narrowing again so less blood goes to the penis.

What viagra does is inhibition of the contact that PDE makes with cGMP. (this is about phosphorylationa and dephosphorylation but it's already advanced biochemistry) Basically viagra inhibits the breakdown of cGMP which causes the erection to hold longer.

Voila. I hope that's kinda clear.
