that reminds me of an interview in Russian I read somewhere last week. *why I didn't keep the link? *

Regarding comments coming from Shamil, Marat said that Shamil talks beautifully, but sometimes not right things *breaking news, people! *. He said that he had spoken to Shamil 2-3 weeks ago and didn't even had a word about Marat's injury. So   we'll wait, and see.

MACHO MAN
by Village People.

Body, wanna feel my body, body, baby,
such a thrill, my body
Body, wanna touch my body, body, baby,
it's too much, my body
Body, check it out, my body, body, baby,
don't you doubt, my body
Body, talking about my body, body, baby,
checking out my body
Listen here
Every man wants to be a macho man
To have the kind of body always in demand
Joggin' in the mornings, go man go
Work up to the hill's top, muscles grow
You can best believe me
He's a macho man
Glad he took you down with anyone you can
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Macho, macho man
I gotta be a macho man
Macho macho man
I gotta be a macho
Macho, macho man
I gotta be a macho man
Macho macho man
I gotta be a macho
Body, my body, body, wanna feel my body
Body, baby, body, body, come and thrill my body
Body, baby, body, body, love to funk, my body
Body, baby, body, body, it's so hot, my body
So hot, yeah my body
Allright
Everyman ought to be a macho, macho man
To live a life of freedom, machos make a stand
Have your own lifestyles and ideals
Access the strip of competence, that's the skill
You can best believe that he's a macho man
He's the special god son in anybody's land
hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Macho, macho man
I gotta be a macho man
Macho macho man
I gotta be a macho
Macho, macho man
I gotta be a macho man
Macho macho man
I gotta be a macho
Macho, macho man
I gotta be a macho man
Macho macho man
I gotta be a macho
I gotta be a macho man
I gotta be a mucho mucho, macho macho man
I gotta be a macho

This whole knee thing turned out to be more serious than they said it was. :ras:I don't understand how they take the decisions  (they= Marat, doctors, Peter). I mean, every week now it's: he'll see if he can play next week, he still hopes the knee will be okay. But at the end of the week it's: he withdrew, he hopes he can play next week.
I mean, each time they seemed to believe he would be okay but obviously it's more serious than what they tell us. If they actually had no strong feeling he'd be okay then he should just have put an end to his season some weeks ago, period. Would have been better for his health, and better for us who are being disappointed every week.

Well at first everyone was saying he was gonna have surgery, they kinda laughed it off, saying it would sideline him for too long and that it wasn't necessary and that everyone panicked for nothing. But he hasn't played since mid August, that's already two months and it will take at least another 2 months before he starts playing again. well I was thinking about something... in Roland Garros King Oaf and Oaf III both had knee injuries... one of them decided to continue to play and the other one decided to withdraw... now one of them is having pretty decent results and the other one... :o :retard:

Well at first everyone was saying he was gonna have surgery, they kinda laughed it off, saying it would sideline him for too long and that it wasn't necessary and that everyone panicked for nothing. But he hasn't played since mid August, that's already two months and it will take at least another 2 months before he starts playing again. He could've had the microsurgery thing in that period of time.

Of course knee problems are the shittiest for a pro tennis player, and it will probably something that never goes away.
Tennis Mag had Marat in their 'down list' in Spring. Not because of his results, cuz you can't have good results if you're injured, but because he refused to have the surgery and they couldn't understand why he was being so stubborn. Same thing than in 2003 with his wrist.
And it's true. If an injury looks really bad then it's better to take care of it immediately even if it means missing a few tournaments, than waiting for it to heal and trying to play/practise at the same time... which also forced him to miss tournaments at the end. :awww:

Well, if you don't visit GM here's what roby posted: Translated roughly from Sina.com.cn from Chinese as follows:

Quoting Brad Drewett, as of today (Nov. 1) neither TMC Shanghai or the ATP has recieved official withdrawal from Safin himself. Safin has booked hotel room at Hilton Shanghai from Nov. 11. He will show up to promote some brand and the TMC in Shanghai regardless.

Federer, Safin, Roddick and Agassi have asked TMC for help with their China entry visa. Roger Federer will arrive in Shanghai this coming Sunday (Nov. 6). TMC in Shanghai also disclosed other players' estimated date of arrival:

Nov. 7: Nadal, Agassi
Nov. 9: Hewitt, Roddick

(sina.com.cn is the official TMC Chinese website partner.)

Fine, will he be like an eternal promotor now? :tape:  How long will they want him to promote, until everyone has forgotten about how he can play tennis?

Marat has today officially withdrawn from playing at the Shanghai Masters Cup BUT he will go there to do promotional work for the Masters Cup and Shanghai. So people in Shanghai will still see him and I am sure there will be chances for signing for people too.
For Paris fans - Marat will be in Bercy this weekend as he will present the winner's trophy to the lucky winner. In the meantime he is continuing working on the knee rehabilitation and we will have a better idea after Shanghai as to his schedule leading up to the Australian Open.

I don't understand why somebody who wanted to express some kind of admiration/respect would drag that into the article. You'd think they would write around facts, and not about some silly rumour. Even if it's just mentioned briefly I think it's tasteless, especially for GQ magazine, which is not a tabloid.
If a belgian magazine would write something like that about any athlete they would get stacks of reader's letters and have to apologise the week after ;)

I was reading the article and I was like "Oh, Ok..where is something about Marat, about tennis...?" it was so typical - two pages article saying nothing

I agree with Irochka and Mashenka about people's attitude toward successful people. Here there is a saying "I don't want to be fine, I want my neighbor to be bad" *now..please don't stop talking to me, I'm not like that...pweaasee  *

There is another saying, but I think I might translate it incorrectly "No one became a prophet in their own country". Basically most of the successful people become famous and honored abroad, and then we slap on our heads and say "Oh, he/she is Bulgarian....go us, we are great nation", no matter that tomorrow the same media will publish/broadcast the dirtiest lies about the person.

....we are horrible people.... :bolt:

to quote from my mantra - Desiderata :worship: (Jamie :yeah: ) ...

"Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism. "

Here the 'official' report. :D
Sunday 06 November 2005

Marat was honoured as a 3 time winner of the Paris Masters Series and last year's champion, to be on hand to present the winners trophy to Thomas Berdych today.

He was briefly interviewed before going on court for the presentation ceremony and had this to say:

Interviewed by Nelson (the French interviewer who has interviewed Marat many a time in Paris),Marat said he had been watching the match in the players' lounge.
Nelson then said that next year at the same hour, it would be he Marat on court and Marat said thanks for that.
There was a query about Marat's clothes to which Marat replied: I am dressed like Pioline but he has more class!
Marat admitted that he was a little bit nervous because this was a different type of ceremony and he would be presenting the trophy rather than receiving it.
And then at the end Nelson said it was a pleasure to talk to him and that they would be waiting for him in Bercy next year and Marat smiled!

At the actual presentation Marat had a big smile on his face as Ivan Ljubicic came up and shook hands with him and then gave him a hug. While waiting for Thomas Berdych to come up you could hear Marat saying bad luck to Ivan. And then he smiled and presented the famous tree to Thomas and then told him to hold it up for the press. Marat organising things again!

Cedric Pioline is a French tennis player, Paris tournament director and seems to be quite friendly with Marat, won 5 ATP tourneys. Retired some years ago and became the tournament director.
That's all I can say right now.

hmmm quite friendly? i bet there are a few journalists who don't share your opinion  he wasn't famous for being nice with them. He didn't like talking to the press and do all the promotional things tournaments/ATP officials organize for players. I guess it must be different now that he is the director of the Masters Series in Paris and has to organize those things betwen players and the press ;)

As i said yesterday, marifline went to Bercy, and this is what she just wrote in the French forum:

The crowd did welcome him well, he had a huge mop, looooooool (but apparently you saw it). He gave Ljubicic a hug (but in a very viril manner, lol) and shook Berdych's hand.
He went between the 2 and he was pushing Berdych a little as if to say "one step behind, everybody shall see you!" lol, it's him again who guided them for the photoshoot, and when he left he waved at the crowd, still looking perfectly trained, and he smiled all the time.

Dip was on the radio on Friday, i was in my bath listening to he, Julien Varlet and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. He was making fun of Arnaud Clément's taste regarding music *insert puking smiley*. He'll be back next year apparently. I don't know if he's still in touch with Marat

Yeah i know about Escudé, can't wait. That would be awesome to have him back in the DC team as well, at least for the doubles :bounce:
When Dip mentionned his comeback on the radio, other players and the people of the radio told him he shall win RG in 2006. It was an order :o  Then he'll have to buy a Ferrari and go to the radio to pick up the girl from the show...
But of course we know it won't happen as Marat will win RG :p

There is a short interview of Safin in "L'Équipe" today, sorry if it was already posted here:

Safin reste patient
Je voulais absolument disputer l’US Open.
J’aurais pu me faire opérer.

Safin remains patient

On arrival in Bercy, the Russian gave a progress report on the injury which is being treated in Moscow. He hopes to make a return to the tour in December. Invited by the organizers to present the trophy to his successor, Marat Safin, three times winner at Bercy (2000, 2002, 2004), was yesterday in Paris. Arriving at the Palais Omnisports at 16.15, in the company of his new girl friend and his large pal Marc Rosset (the latest pensioner on the circuit), the Russian agreed to talk about his injured knee which has wasted a large part of the season for him. Gracious and relaxed, he also told of his everyday life in Moscow, the purchase of a new apartment and his desire to return to the tennis courts during December. If the rest and the care to which he is subjected bear fruit, the 2006 season could start for him.

What did happen with the injury to your left knee?

It is a long story. It is not an unusual injury. In fact, it is fairly common with basketball players called "jumper's knee" (literally the knee of the jumper). It is not very serious but, unfortunately, I stopped playing too late. I started to have problems in Indian Wells and Miami. I continued to play on clay as I was hoping that the problem was related to hard surfaces. But that did nothing else but worsen the injury. At Roland-Garros, I had to take pain killers and to undergo injections around the knee. After Wimbledon, I decided to go for consultation at a private clinic. One advised me to stop for two or three months, but I did not take the advice. I really wanted to play at the US Open. It is over there that I caused the problem to worsen.

Then, you looked after yourself in Russia?

The American doctors had already given me indications of what should happen, but I wanted to have treatment at home. One again repeated the advice to stop playing for two to three months. I could have had an operation. But the price to be paid was too high: one year of staying away. For the moment, all is going well. Which program do you follow?

I spend five hours per day with the doctors. I start at 9am and I finish around 4 p.m, with, you understand, stops for lunch included. I work the same program six days out of seven. I can do no work on any level of the legs. Neither jogging, nor bicycle, nothing! Simple clumsy movement could put me back months. Therefore, I work on the top part of my body in the gym and I swim every morning.

Do you miss tennis?

At this moment, very much. I find time drags. My plan is to return gradually to the practice in December, in Valencia. If all goes well, that should be alright for the beginning of 2006 season.

What do you do with the remainder of the day?

I enjoy being with my family, I see my girl friend, I occupy myself with my future apartment. Of course, as with all apartments, there are problems, but that encourages me to have more ideas and that in turn helps me to forget my troubles of the moment.

Do you follow the tournaments on TV?

I do not have television at the house. Just a screen with a DVD player, but I do not have an antenna. Just watching television is not needed. There are so many other things more interesting to do!
