No replays, no you say we play, no highlights show

I stayed up till 3am the other night to watch some tennis, and thought I will then watch some of the highlights of the matches early in the morning uk time, but I find out there is no non live action what so ever. WTF is this?

I quite liked the you say we play show, people rang in and voted for the match they wanted to see. It was 60-120 minutes highlight of the winning match (but they have completely scrapped it?)

They should at least show a 30 minutes highlight program in the afternoon evening before play starts, but they are cancelling these shows as well

It just really pisses me off, last year their coverage was amazing (for a tv channel without interactive). Lots of replays all day long, highlight shows, you say we play (and best of all) good choices for matches. This year, they are changing matches every fucking set!! You wont see one single full match I think  I stayed up to watch nalbandian, and they show a set (then change matches) and because of no replays, I miss all the action.

Its bad enough, they do not offer interactive service, but with all the problems I listed above, its disgraceful.

Is anyone else feeling the same? really pissed off?

the other night with the nalbandian match and the changing that was annoying but it was different last night. They showed aqll of the Fed match and the final 2 and a half sets of the Haas- Gasquet. It is a shame there are noe highlight shows but the live action is good. They just fucked up a bit on the first night

It's back to the old "you suck we suck" routine except they've even taken that away. Last year I was always giving out cos they alwyas picked the crappest matches to show on the "you suck we suck" show but now they've totally scrapped it & that sucks even more.

They actually do have a highlight show.....I saw a half hour long one this morning at 8 showing the play from during the wee hours of the morning.

Basically, boo hiss eurosport.

Maybe they're not showing so much cos i think they're some ice skating championships on that they're showing live...

I caught the end of the highlights show, but why do they show it at such a bad time! Half of the matches arent even done, by 8am uk time! So it seems stupid to do a crappy show before all matches are completed and air it at a sensible time. 8am, people are either in bed or at work

At a time like 6-7pm, I am sure they would get alot more viewers.

It's Eurosport, what did you expect? Snooker is just so much more interesting than tennis anyways

My TV schedule says the have a highlights program for day 2 at midnight C.E.T for one hour and then play on day 3 begins. Great, so people who are working and can't see any of the live action have to stay up until one o' clock in the fucking morning to watch the highlights

I agree about the highlights show. Unless you're superhuman (which I'm not :p ) - people who work full time just cannot stay up all night watching tennis and then go to work all day - it's just physically impossible  - so the only time people like me get to see tennis is in the evenings at about 7.00pm-8.00pm. Even if it was only half an hours' round-up of results, headlines and maybe a couple of interviews it would be better than nothing. I do try and get up earlier than usual to watch a bit of live stuff (maybe 4.30am instead of 5.30am) - but even then they chop and change matches so you can't really get into any particular game before they switch courts again

It says in my tv guide that there's a highlights show at 11PM (GMT)
but it said the same yesterday and there were no highlights, instead there was some crap about ice skating

A few years ago they had a great highlights show, that came on at 9pm
Don't know why they got rid of it :o

For once Eurosport is showing some men's tennis and I have so much work the two weeks of the AO that I can hardly watch any matches. :banghead: Luckily, though, I caught the Hingis match today. WOW! :worship:

This year's AO coverage seems to be worse. I think BBC or Sky should try to take over and bring their interactive coverage. Surely these channels have nothing better to show from midnight to 10am.

The good thing is, tim and haggis are both out early :woohoo: so at least those two jokers wont be ruining our coverage like they usually do! They will show some other players instead of them all the time!!

I'm very content about the coverage so far, a big improvement to last year I would say so far from my memory. They showed parts or almost the whole matches (on the TV courts) of German interest for me and yet they didn't neglect other highlights on the big courts. That's exactly what I want. I don't want to see Federer with his boring win over some no-name player when at the same time other highlights are happening. Also for me live tennis is more important than any "re-live" or taped matches. And they show a lot of live, good!

I agree with the highlight shows, though. They could find a better time than at midnight. I also can understand that they don't want to send the highlights right after the night session (what would be afternoon for most of us in Europe), because 12, 13 or even more hours of tennis is enough at some time. So it's understandable that they want to chance the sport also, but why not send 45 minutes or 60 minutes in the evening, at 7 or 8pm for example. That would be ideal for most people who work at day times or who don't record the whole day.

Ice skating always ruining the fun. Cant they move this gay skating to euro 2? I know euro 2 didnt buy the ao, but come on!! Making us suffer for a bunch of pansies skating around

I miss the highlights too. But I understand they cancelled all the replays during the day, it's easy for the real tennis nuts to record the matches of the night. Replays would be great if they showed the matches we couldn't see during the night, but they usually only show Federer and Sharapova again, so it's quite useless.

01-18-2006, 12:19 PM
I'm not complaining either. I like it that they switch between matches rather than to be stuck with a complete but boring Federer or Sharapova match. I don't get to see much tennis outside of the Grand Slams so this is my opportunity to see many players I haven't seen before and I like it. I don't always agree with the choice of match, but that's often just my personal taste.

WOW, because the Malisse v Johansson match went on longer than expected, they extended their live tennis coverage until 1230 today :yeah:

Your asolutely, 100% correct and I am sorry for ever doubting you. Federer played a really excellent match but, my god. Those commentators just talked non stop from start to finish about how much of a legend Roger will be and already is. (apart from when they talked about sausages, but thats another story). Anyway. I got so bloody pissed off with John Lloyd's voice and ridiculous love of Federer (the guys a great player but lets not get carried away yet) that I had to mute the TV and put on music.

Yes - I like to "hear" the match too - it helps build the atmosphere. But the mute button comes in very useful - especially when Virginia Wade is doing her Wimbledon commentaires  If I didn't press the mute I would probably throw something through the screen after 10 minutes of listeing to her voice

Luckily I think at wimbledon you can just mute the commentary. Last year on BBCi I remeber you had a choice of sound, you could either listen to

normal
radio five live
no commentary

hopefully this option will be retained.
