on 2nd Serve

Winners 28 27

Receiving 33 of 78 = 42 % 28 of 91 = 31 %

I'm surprised that the winner and UE counts are so even. 1st serve percentage and BP conversion by Richard not good enough. :)

The speed of his serve is actually pretty decent. Needs to get more 1st serves in though.

Unfortunate loss Richard, but really nice playing by Tommy.

I watched the last part of the match that ESPN allowed us to see - Gasquet seemed in a hurry to finish rallies. He had no patience and wanted to go for winners off every shot. I think that has been his downfall for some time now.

I hope his coach drills patience into him. He technical game does not have too many flaws.

Richie  there is some chances still for him during the match, all right, lets begin to learn more quickly

Hopefully, he will find his form once he gets more matchplay. :)

Yeah, he definitely needs to work on mentally being in the match and in the important points (break point conversion was pretty horrible - he could have had a real good chance to go up a double break in the second set, and that might have changed things), his rallying patience, and raise that first serve percentage. Hopefully he'll get some easier draws, too. Not the best start of the season (0-3 ), but I'm sure he will improve on that.

Congrats to Haas, the little I saw of him playing was quite good. :)

Just to add my very shallow note. Haas looks really good. The new haircut suits him and he seems fitter than ever.

I was surprised by the scoreline. Hope Gasquet gets back to form soon, but am happy for Tommy that he is playing so well lately.

I really doesn't have expected Gasquet that weak, but you have seen all that he was not in good form yet. Not a good serve, not enough training I think.

That was really easy for Tommy, I'm happy for that! :D

Normal, I think that match has entertaining tennis over four or five sets - but not when one player is not good in form

I don't think it was that easy, Tommy deservedly won on consistency, but he did not outplay Richard. Richard has to learn that on that level the main objective is to win a match, not to play the most beautiful shots. He went from desaster to brilliance and back again within a single game, but if he is on, he is sheer delight.

Exactly, the scoreline is a bit harsh, Haas has to fight for every point, and was in danger in many of his serve. As said Rofe, Richie was too impatient to win the rallies, especially when he fell behind or was in danger on his own serve. I had the feeling that the match could have turned the other way at any moment.

The sad note is that Richie hasn't won a single set this year.

Great win for Tommy :bigclap: Now he will play Goldstein. I wasn't able to see Tommys match but it looks like he had everthing under control. I wouldn't say it was an easy win though. But Tommy made a solid performance and now has the best chances to defeat Goldstein :) GO TOMMY

Finally people are starting to see this. ;)

You can't win with 1 shot.

It's not his serve, per say, IMO. More of the consistency of it, especially the first serve. BP conversion (1 out of 11) really needs working on as well. Both will improve with more matchplay, hopefully. :p

You can't win with 1 shot.

He is still young and there is a lot of maturing before him. Whether he will be able to make the step from a precocious wizzard to a very-top player remains to be seen. But he has definetely more than ONE shot.

He won't lose tomorrow. Gasquet is over-rated who will not beat Haas unless Haas retires hurt, particularly on this surface.

Haas will beat Gasquet.

Jimbo and Bolar agreeing? What next? :worship:

Poor Gasquet, hopefully he will get his form back soon. He needs working on several aspects of his game and he knows that, but he has time and talent to do it. And well done to Haas, good luck next round!

Overall very strong play of Haas, he decided the close moments. The match itself was closer than the bare scoreline would suggest. Haas can be happy with this result, saved energy for the upcoming rounds and as unseeded player he could have had a worse draw than Gasquet today!
