Terrific Tuesday at the Aussie "claycourt" Open

The Gucci one

Well it better be considering the horrendous start I have had to the week. Looking at putting the following matches into a couple of parlay plays.
Any comments welcome

Fernando Verdasco over Kenneth Carlsen
Guillermo Coria over Victor Hanescu
Nikolay Davydenko over Ivo Karlovic
Lucie Safarova over Maria Sanchez Lorenzo
Michaela Krajicek over Kristina Brandi

Had I had a good start today I would also be backing Thierry Ascione against Max (I can't win a 1st round at the Aussie Open) Mirnyi at $3.80. But my confidence is shot so I won't.

I am thinking along the lines of:

Phau over Berlocq
Seppi over Tipsarevic
Verdasco over Carlsen
Andreev over Almagro
Arthurs over Pashanski

I will be back later with my decisions...

Verdasco - I like the match - up. All Carlsen has is a good serve and average volley. Verdasco killed him the last time they played and should repeat the feat today - Carlsen is also injured (ankle). Little worried about Verdasco's result so far this season...but I was worried about Ginepri and he stormed through.

Coria - did well in Kooyong but Hanescu is dangerous. I was thinking of an upset here...but I won't be hitting the match whichever way I think it will go ;)

Davydenko - had a few surprising losses. Karlovic is dangerous and despite being 0/2 I'm not totally convinced he will lose for a 3rd time. Davydenko will probably win but I think this is best left alone. I feel inclined to bet on a Karlovic match when it is on clay :tape:

Not sure and don't give a stuff about WTA ;)

Looking for Coria x Phau @1.66 to win 5 units

Looks pretty solid.

Coria leads Hanescu 2-0 ( both on clay ) He learned to play well on harcourt and he reached the 4th round in every GS last year, should be able to do so this year too!

Phau played decent tennis, they haven't met yet. I haven't seen Berlocq playing yet but I guess he likes to play on clay and had not really good results on hardcourt so far...

Good Luck!:)

especially starace and murray

odds for luczak are better on paddypower...or they were a while ago

Kim over Levy @1.90 !!!

Why?
Harel is really in a great shape, since October he is with something like 15 wins from 18 games...
Kevin haven't finish the year so good...
and Harel leads in H2H 2-1...beaten him in Indian wells qualies in 2004

Horatio Caine
01-16-2006, 01:25 PM
Kim is best on a faster court where he can get lots of cheap points off his serve. Levy will get a good look in today and Kim is not good in rallies. Add to that the good qualifying tournament Levy played...wouldn't say Kim is a good player to back tbh.

Horatio Caine

Anyone know anything about Berlocq that isn't apparent from match results over the last 12 months? :p

Thanks ;)

Piece of trash Henman.......

Today we go with:

Peter Luczak -127 over Ivo Minar ($127 to win $100)

In 2003, local boy Luczak got a nice taste of this tournament when he made the 3rd Round before losing to Ancic. The last two years, he has lost to Santoro in 2004 and Tojo in 2005. The match against Tojo last year was out of this world as it went to 5 sets before Luczak got bagelled out of the tournament. I have read some articles and that loss still has Luczak begging for another shot at winning here. Luczak has played in 7 Grand Slam matches, while Minar is playing in his first ever AO and it more of a clay court player. Luczak is off to a good start this year, giving X-Man a run for his money in Adelaide and then beating him last week in Sydney before losing to eventual finalist Igor Andreev but that was only after taking Andreev to three tie breakers. Minar has not done much this year but the crowd support for Luczak will be big in this one and I don't see the Czech having any success. Neither player has done well on hardcourts but Luczak should win.

Juan Ignacio Chela +138 over Andy Murray ($200 to win $270)

There is probably going to be tons of money coming from the UK on this one and I will gladly take the other side and the more experienced Juan Ignacio. The onle thing I have learned about Murray is that he lacks self confidence and often finds himself wondering if he is doing things right. His goal prior to the Australian Open was to play three matches in Auckland. He failed to do that and his serve was off. Juan Ignacio Chela is not the same player he used to be but he is still a threat. He has made the 2nd Round or better in five straight Aussie Opens. The line for Murray seems to easy to take with Chela losing all his matches this year. However, I love the underdog.

Arnaud Clement -125 over Paul-Henri Mathieu ($250 to win $200)

This one again comes down to an experience level. In his last two Aussie Open first round matches, Clement has had to face Hewitt and Davydenko. Now he faces PHM which is a very different quality of opponent compared to those other two guys. Clement is off to a decent start this season and his last loss was in Sydney against winner James Blake. PHM on the other hand, crashed out of both tournaments so far this year and I once told myself I would never bet on him unless it was a carpet match.Clement is a good hardcourt players while PHM is not very good anywhere. This is the right time of the year to bet on Clement because he is not tired yet and should have some juice left for this one.

Good luck

I'd stay away from Starace man, Delic is in good form and Starace was recently injured. Don't wase your money here, Almagro also has a potential upset on Andreev.

I'm looking at:
10 units on Sanguinnetti x Phau x Monaco x Seppi @ 2.6 - Easy money right there, as all of them have week opponents that are useless on hardcourt

50 units on Phillipoussis over Grosjean @ 4.1 is a solid bet, especially considering the Flip has been playing decently and Grosjean is coming of a straight set loss to El Ayanoui, I'm pounding the bookie on this one.

2.5 units Kevin Kim over Harel Levy @ 1.9 - Kevin Kim is ranked much higher and Levy isn't a very good player anymore, Kevin Kim goes for his shots, small amount for this.

2 units Hanescu over Coria @ 3.9 - This match has upset written all over it, Hanescu can end points quickly with his flat strokes and holding serve shouldn't be a big problem, since he has an efficient serve, small bet on this as well.

Other good deals that I'm not touching are Minar over Luczak, Goldstein over Djokovic, Fleishman over Norman and Karlovic over Davydenko.

Going for this today:

Ancic - Hernych(+6.5) handicap
Odds: 1.85 at GameBookers
Australian Open, Hernych not to lose for more than 6 games. As a "hit-and-run" player, Mario dislikes good baseliners. Hernych is reliable on baseline, and considering Mario's mental instability - I go for this handicap.

D. Nalbandian- S. Wawrinka(+6) handicap

Australian Open, Wawrinka not to lose for more than 6 games. David is far the most talented player in the tour, but he often loose concentration in his matches. With Udomchoke, he evel lost 2 sets. Wawrinka is surely more decent player, so Stan can get a set easily here - and handicap will be win.

G.Garcia- Lopez - J. Benneteau : G.Garcia-Lopes to win.
Odds: 1.64 at MediaBet
Australian Open, Garcia to defeat Benneteau. So what we have here? A good baseliner on a slow surface of Melbourne - Rebound Ace. Garcia is a very accurate player, makes few errors - Benneteau will lose because of his errors and overall bad shape.

Other good deals that I'm not touching are Minar over Luczak, Goldstein over Djokovic, Fleishman over Norman and Karlovic over Davydenko.

champ, just some quick advice - you should stay away from gambling.

go to the gym and put some muscle on your shoulders, or learn how to shoot free throws or something.

but just dont gamble - you can thank me later.

I think he was kinda close.. coria almost got upset.. threw so many doubles i'd be scared to bet on him again... Seppi almost won too which woulda made his 4parley..
