I hate making excuses but this is his first match of the Aussie summer.
He's been suffering from the flu/stomach virus and his energy levels probably aren't 100%. Credit to Udomchoke though.

Point noted. He seems to be getting his rhythm and cruising in the 5th set.

Nalby match is more important for tennis fans. Dent is going nowhere in this tourny.

ESPN is full of shit. Showing fat fuck Taylor over the Shanghai winner. Bad, bad decision.

Yeah, I was getting a bit worried after he lost that fourth set tiebreak, but thankfully, he won that fifth set pretty easily. Good job to him.

Well- we did get about 3 seconds of coverage of the match on ESPN, complete with a between the legs shot from Nalby that produced a winner.

I never expected Nalbo to have to go 5 sets in the first round
When i isaw he hd won the first 2 sets i thought he had the thai guy, but, well, its nalbo, you never know... :p

so, Nalbo, if you wanna struggle in all the matches and complicate them, its ok, as long as you reach the final and you destroy Roger as you did in the Masters!!!

go, king david! :D

Destroy Fed?

Anyway, I am glad that Nalby came through. From the scoreline (damn ESPN !!), my guess is that he was still recovering from the virus. Hopefully, he will do better in the next round.

well, yeah, i know, he wasnt even close to "destroy" federer, he only beat him cause roger was not in his best form, but let me dream a little, i want this guy to take a Slam!!!!

To Dent's credit, he's looking a lot more fit than before. I was surprised at his skinny jawline.

And his new hairdo looks good too. I hope the fact that Dent struggled in the heat so much during the US hardcourt series finally got his rear motivated to get in shape.

For anyone who was actually able to see Nalby for more than the three seconds that we were able to on ESPN- did he look like he was recovering form his illness?

I also thought that the new shorter do looked better while he was playing. I wonder what it looks like off court?

It's not too short; he still has enough to put that big massive headband over.

Hopefully early matches like this one won't take too much out of Nalbandian. Is he still battling the virus?

Sorry to say but almost miracle is needed before David is going through top-form Nieminen in 3th round.

I don't think so. I was able to watch the whole match. (Thank God for STAR SPORTS!) He kept on shaking his right hand in between points, obviously feeling discomfort. The commentator also said he had blisters on his hand or something like that... if it really is blisters then it'll probably hurt his chances a lot.

Well, the fact that he struggled on a little early on was not totally unexpected considering his recent illness. I remember last year in the beginning of the tournament he wasn't exactly in peak form either being pushed to five difficult sets against Ferrer yet ended up reaching the quarters almost beating Hewitt there.

Stan is in perfect shape these days :) ... I knew he didn't waste his x-mas time by improving his fitness with magician P. Paganini... If he keeps focused he can trouble David I guess :)

Hopefully he can better from here on in. As I've always said expect the unexpected with him.

Euro showed the first set  and that was it! David wasnt playing that well, but I thought he still should have beaten a very poor opponent in 3 sets  Lets hope he picks it up, beating udomchoke in 5 is a very poor win

I'v seen the first set on Eurosport and Nalbandian didn't seem to feel very good, but he looked more confident than before and took command in many points on a very classy way. He plays one of the most attractive games on the tour, and apart from his volley and serve I think he is the best player on tour - better even than Federer!

Maybe this tell us what happened.

DAVID NALBANDIAN: No, I feel that I didn't feel hundred percent yet. In the middle of the third set, I lose power, lose everything, and don't feel good. But, well, that's normal. I was sick in the beginning of the week, so I thought that I was better than I play. I expect to be better physically, but not hundred percent yet.

I recently watch and interview in ESPNLA and he said, he was having lost of power sometimes and lack of energy, and that was very weird, but in the 5th he was playing and feeling a lot better. Also the doctor's tell him that he is gonna keep this problems but he is gonna recover just fine.

Do you mean he's gonna continue to HAVE this problem, then he'll recover just fine?

Yes, he can have some lack of energy in the middle but is only a passenger thing.
