I really think Blake is an Aussie dark horse

Looking at the draw, he'll win his first 3 matches easily, then does anyone really think Nalbadian is that much better than Blake if they meet? After him though i can't trust Roddick will make it to Week 2.

:bounce: hope so! It's mental for him, he has trouble closing out real big matches and also when he's playing guys he has had a lot of trouble with in the past, so we'll have to see how it pans out

Maybe so but if you think his first 3 matches are easy then obviously you've never seen Jose Acasuso play. As much as i would like to see James do well, this has the potential for an upset if Jose brings his head to this one.

It could be tough, sure. James has the confidence, though, of having beat him at the AO quite easily 3 years ago. James is a much better player now than he was then. From his blog entry, he seems quite aware of how tough Acasuso is.

if Jose brings his head to this one.

He does not bring it too often, unfourtunately.-

Well, if Tursunov manages to beat Henman and eventually Robredo in the 2nd. Rd, he could be quite a pain in the ass for Blake in the 3rd Rd. Then in the 4th Rd Blake would face either Nalbandian or Nieminen - I can't see him going through this stage.

I believe in him and Ancic, it's a strange feeling.

Keep dreaming about Blake, he will win a few matches and he should be happy with a 4th round performance.

I actually expect him to have a very good result too. He's got a favorable draw so we'll see...

This is a very unpredictable section of the draw. On paper, Nalbandian should be the clear favourite to reach the semis but we all know it rarely works out that way. Most slams seem to have at least one random player reaching the semis and I think it could come from this section.

At the top half of this quarter, absolutely anyone could make it to the quarter-final. Moya, Ancic, Ferrer, Gaudio and Schuettler have equal chances of making it to the last 8. On current form, even Florent Serra has to be one of the favourites to make it through this section.

At the bottom half, Nalbandian and Blake are the clear favourites but with Acasuso and Nieminen in there, who knows?

We've certainly seen stranger things than players like Florent Serra reach semi-finals of grand slams.

Yeah I think Blake is an outside chance. If he gets past Nalbandian, then he could reach the semis, and anyone who gets that far has a chance to win.

I agree...Acasuso is highly dangerous if he turns up. Big serve and big groundies...could be match suitable for the dirt. I wouldn't consider Tursunov or Henman as walkover R3 opponents either. ;)

I hope players like nalbandian and blake can make it really far!

Acasuso doesn't have a very good record in Grand Slams, especially off clay. I wouldn't consider him as a major threat to that quarter of the draw.

Well you have to take Blake a little bit more seriously now considering he's won 3 titles in the last 6 months, and is playing better than I've ever seen him play. It would be great if he could make a serious run here, great way to continue a great start to the season.

Why a dark horse? James has legitimate chances here.

I do not see it - he was struggling with the heat in the final in Sydney and to be honest that was a match Andreev had him on the ropes in but just did not have the ability to close it.

Melbourne is only going to get hotter and if he gets stuck with a match played on an outside court in the middle of the day, he could be in a bit of trouble.

Oh yeah James, wear a cap son.

It's big that he didn't go to 5 in his first match.

I don't really consider Blake much of a dark horse anymore with the way he's been playing since last summer. A dark horse to win the whole thing, yes. As others have mentioned, he still needs to show the killer instinct in a big spot, but when he's on it's tough for anyone to keep up with him. I'd like to see a Blake-Tursunov match up in the 3rd round. The two of them would be sure to tattoo some balls all over the court.

Okay, that was a little bit funny. I admit, I chuckled ;)

Anyways, I'd like to see Blake do really well here... too bad he's in Nalbandian's section, and I like David just a little bit better  :p

I agree. He could fly under the radar and make it all the way to the finals. Looking at his draw, I can see a possibility for him to take out everyone in his path. Note that I said POSSIBILITY. He would still have to play the tournament of his life, but he could do it. Especially if he gets a little help from others in his draw, like Taylor Dent going out early.

The third round against Dmitri or Tommy will be tough... and then you'd have to say Nalbandian would be the favorite. But James definitely has a legitimate chance.. if he can play the way he played summer 05... I hope either David or James reaches the final, but you'd have to pick Andy as the heavy fave.
