sorry to be a smart ass but
the translation is missleading
they actually refer that Roger sees Nadal as invincible,
and "the will nadal has of winning is scary."
since at the end of the 3rd paragraph Rog says: "Aquí ni yo ni nadie es invencible". which means "here not me nor anyone is invincible".

so sorry to say but i seriously doubt Federer is in anyway intimidated by Nadal i mean he respect him n stuff but at the end of the day even thou Nadal won 11 tournaments still couldnt pass him as the world number 1
and Rog has stayed in that position for a long time and probably will stay there for a while.
And he knows that, he probably just said that to show his respect and the spanish media is trying to miss lead it into something it isnt.

I think so too.

When I told people at WTAWorld that shaking off the pressure by claiming somebody else is the actual favourite for a title is a traditional mind game technique used by football coaches, they seemed to have never even heard of it. They're more familiar with braggarts like Hingis and Serena Williams.

Go Roger! That's exactly what I think too. Rafa is an ASV clone. One of those players waiting for the best to be off form so they can take advantage. Of course, he can stand on his own two feet on clay but that's about it. He's a specialist as far as I'm concerned. I'm not buying the hype.

Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario :worship:

Nadal wishes he was that good. She is one of the greatest. I can understand what Roger means though, to his Steffi, Nadal is like Arantxa - but Arantxa did very well against Graf at important times including multiple wins at the French and at other clay court events in particular so the comments make sense.

Oh, and Nadal dressed in drag wouldn't be half as beautiful as Arantxa - I know her in person and she is truly beautiful lady. It is an honor for Nadal to be compared with her.

It is most tragic that the Spanish Media has taken it into their hands to fabricate the words of others, I'm afraid that this incident is far from being one that can be resolved by saying "It was translated poorly", they knew precisely what they were doing.

Unless they use babelfish or other online programs (literal form) to translate words, how could you make such awful mistakes ?

This is absolutely classless, quite pathetic and amongst other things, an outcry for help.

There's a thread about it on vr.com and the irreplaceable nou.amic posted a translation of the article. It seems that Rogelio talked to the Swiss media and the Spanish article is only reporting his words  Does anybody from Switzerland know anything about this? What magazine was it? Were Roger's words actually manipulated/mistranslated into Spanish, as many people here think?
The translation: (http://vamosrafael.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=2816&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20)
Roger Federer bows down to Nadal: "He is unbeatable on clay"

THE SWISS, INDISPUTABLE FAVOURITE FOR THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN, AFFIRMS HE WILL "NEVER" WIN ROLAND GARROS WHILE THE MALLORCAN IS COMPETING

MADRID.- Roger Federer admires Rafa Nadal at least as much as the Manacor player esteems the present world number one. In an interview for one of his country's magazines, the Swiss player stated that he considered the Mallorcan "unbeatable" on clay and, because of that, as long as Nadal was on the professional tour he thought it literally impossible to one day win Roland Garros, the last edition of which was won precisely by the 'Manacori' after defeating Federer himself in the semifinal and then beating the Argentine Mariano Puerta.

In the interview, Roger Federer is full of praise for his main rival on the professional circuit, the present world number two. The Swiss considers that Nadal has "such a desire to win that it is frightening" and assured that he has been "dazzled" by his tennis: "He is an incredible tennis player, but not just because of his muscles. He also has talent and power. He is like Arantxa, but in the male version," said Federer referring to the Catalan player who reached the top thanks to her tenacity and capacity to fight on court.

The world number one believes absolutely in the possibilities of his rival, whom he considers "the best" on clay, to such an extent that he is aware that he will "never" win Roland Garros "while Nadal is playing there". This praise from the only player who is at present above him in the APT rankings is bound to raise the morale of the Mallorcan, who is still in the "dry dock" because of his physical problems. After having had to retire from the Shanghai Masters at the last minute, when he had in fact travelled to the Asian city, Nadal was confident that he would reappear in the Australian Open, which begins next Monday in Melbourne, but, as has been announced this week, this option has been completely ruled out.

The young prodigy of world tennis does not want to have another experience like Shanghai, travelling thousands of kilometers to come back empty handed without even having been able to play, so taking the advice to hand of his uncle/trainer, Toni Nadal, his family and his technical advisers, he has preferred to rule out Australia completely and give himself more time to recover from his injury. Prior to that Nadal had to pull out of the Sydney tournament, where Carlos Moya did take part. Moya defeated the Frenchman Sebastian Grosjean in the first round, but injury also got the better of him and he had to pack his bags before playing his match against the North American Blake. His taking part in the Australian Open was also in danger, but finally the Palma player will be there as one of the six Spanish players among the 32 seeds in the draw for the first Grand Slam of the season.

David Ferrer is seeded highest of the "armada española" in Melbourne, he is the 11th seed, while Juan Carlos Ferrero is 15th, Tommy Robredo 16th, Fernando Verdasco 28th and Feliciano Lopez 31st. Moya got the 32nd and last place.

However, Rafa Nadal's absence takes some of the shine off the competition, in which Roger Federer is the clear favourite. The Swiss was cautious about his chances, though, stating that "much depended on the heat, and the form of players like Roddick, Hewitt and Ljubicic".

Federer has opted to be prudent. Although he starts the season well established as the number one player, he does not want to repeat the experience of some of his predecessors who got to number one in the ATP ranking "and then lost their ranking because of injuries or for other reasons".

{In another digital newspaper, he is quoted as saying:"in recent years on the tour, we have seen players reach number one, like Ferrero or Moya, then lose their ranking because of injuries or for other reasons. Here (at the AO) neither I nor anyone else is invincible".}

But yea, dont' call Spain third world. Even if they exagerated a bit. Probably Federer just meant that it would be difficlult to win FO with Nadal there.

It's probably fake, some trash publication trying to talk up their precious third-world dirtballer.

I don't want to jump to conclusions or anything but the way you are wording it, one can safely assume you mean it as an insult  .

I come from a third-world country (which I don't mind one bit and wouldn't trade my nationality for any other) and my son plays tennis competitively on clay, so actually he is a third-world dirtballer. Therefore, again the way you are wording it, I find your comment pretty offensive :( .

Argentina is a third-world country. Wanna count the number of players of said country, please? Okay. Now shut the youknowhat up. :)

Onto the translation of the "El Mundo" article:

"Federer: With Nadal on the courts I'll never win Roland Garros.

Number one tennis player Roger Federer praised the spanish player's, Rafael Nadal, talent who he sees invincible on clay and "with such a desire to win that it is frightening". "He's like the male version of Aranxta," adds the tennis player in an interview released by a Spanish magazine.

The magazine SIE7E publishes these quotes of the swiss player, who shows himself amazed by the Spanish player. "He's amazing, but not for his muscles." Federer trusts a lot in the Spaniard's possibilities, who he considers the best on clay. "I know I will never win RG while he's in the courts," he says. He even dares to joke about the famous pirate pants of Nadal: "They look good on him, but I find them uncomfortable."

The tennis player shows himself cautious while foretelling about his possible win in the next Grand Slam of 2006: "It will depend on the heat, on the way the other players, Hewitt, Roddick or Ljubicic show up". He doesn't want to say much about further events, nor bet on his success since "during the past years we've seen many players reaching the #1 spot, like Ferrero and Moya, and then losing themselves in the rankings due to injuries or different things. Here neither me nor anyone is invincible.

For Roger Federer the praises of different tennis legends like Mc Enroe, Sampras, Becker, who all consider them the best of all by far, are an exageration. "They're completely crazy! How was I going to win against Becker in Wimbledon, or McEnroe in the US Open or Cash in Australia! I think they see me invincible right now because they're already a bit old. (fondones is old, right? sorta?)

During the interview, the tennis player also analized women's tennis and Martina Hingis' comeback. "Women's tennis has changed a lot since she left. The Williams' are not dominating the tour anymore, and the muscles of Amelie Mauresmo can beat you just like Justin Henin-Hardenne's technique. I don't think Martina came back to the courts just to look ridiculous."

In the end, Federer, a great fan of soccer and, above from all, from 'la Roma', worshipped the new player of the Real Madrid, Antonio Cassano: "I think he's great and a very good acquisition for the team."

Ugh, finally. That's all. :) Please, if you're gonna post it somewhere else, some credit wouldn't be bad lol.

Somebody already posted somewhere in here that this interview was done in the Swiss press (some Swiss magazine) so I doubt very much that Roger did this interview in Spanish. The Spanish press just translated it, so it seems.

Now, maybe things got lost in translation, I'm having difficulty believing that Federer said this about any player out there - who knows - but we won't know for sure until we read the original interview.

So, does any Federer fan have that?
