In case you all can't figure out where the title comes from, its from the Men At Work song:

Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said,

Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover.

Buying bread from a man in brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, do you speak-a my language?
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
And he said,

I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover.

Lying in a den in bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?
And he said,

Oh! do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover.

Okay, I've finally lost it.

Here's the link for Men at Work, Super Hits, scroll down to Listen To Samples, look for the song Down Under. You can hear it in Windows or Real Player.

Fernando Gonzalez vs Alex Bogomolov Jr.

Anyone has an idea which part will start the tournament ?

Tricky_Forehand
01-14-2006, 07:21 AM
Alex is NOT a big server (although he serves well) nor does he volley exclusively. You might be thinking of Bogdanovic  . Alex plays more of an all-court game. He's getting better at the net though he does prefer to stay back. His FH is his best shot though he can hit any shot any time.

As for "third round in New Caledonia" that translates into QFs. And he was the strongest player in Quallies.

Yesterday I was watching the news and they said that Horacio said that he was really worried about Gonzo's shoulder and he hoped the shoulder will be healed in the next 48 hours :scared:

That doesn't sound good and I've to say that I'm really worried. Also the news from yesterday that he went to see a doctor sounded to me that it could be more serious than he thought/said in Auckland.

Thanks for posting all the info GonzoFan. I have been checking the newspapers all day, but couldn't find anything. Hope there'll be some good news soon - I so hope he's okay. He just has to be okay......

That is worrisome. Hopefully there will be something in the papers - at least it would be in a couple places so there confirmation.

I hope that they are careful. While its a Slam, they shouldn't take any chances. He could end up out for awhile if he plays and hurts the shoulder more. Look what happened to Nico last year at the Oz Open - his foot hurt, but he played anyway, and then ended up with a stress fracture in his foot. But Fernando has a better team with him than Nico did last year so hopefully common sense will prevail. Horacio is a smart guy. He'll tell it to Fernando like it is.

“Feña” González cuida su hombro para el Abierto de Australia

Con la incertidumbre por la dolencia en un hombro (una sobrecarga física, según su técnico Horacio de la Peña) el tenista nacional Fernando González inició sus prácticas en Melbourne de cara a la disputa del primer Grand Slam del año, el Abierto de Australia. En todo caso, “Destructor” realizó un entrenamiento suave. En su calidad de noveno cabeza de serie del torneo, el nacional debutará ante un tenista proveniente de la qualy.

Feña González takes care of his shoulder for the Australian Open

With the uncertainty by the ailment in a shoulder (a physical overload, according to its technician Horacio de la Peña) the national tennis player Fernando González initiated his practices in Melbourne facing the dispute of the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open. I definitely prefer it here in Fernando’s forum so we could focus together on his match and we would be away from the betting people who only care about money and not about the players.

I would like to hear from someone who saw it too - Viva Chile had a brief report on GM but it was only on the almost fight between the two. I hope Fernando pounds that kid the next time they play - in both ways. But I would like to hear more about the actual match - which is the most important thing. The other stuff is just the same 'ol passionate stuff from a long match.

Read the new scores thread created by GonzoFan and there you'll find all you need to know. I don't know how our brave GonzoFan survived to call that match. GonzoFan: :worship:  Fernando not only called the trainer for the shoulder he also had a bad fall and he needed medical attention after that.......do I need to say more :bigcry:

I'm finally at home now after this horrible day and will try to recover........

I just hope Fernando's okay and that it is nothing serious with the shoulder.

First of all, I wanted to say sorry for leaving yesterday without saying good bye or telling you anything more about the match but I was devastated and couldn't even write ... I just wanted to go to bed and cry.

I see that everyone is talking about the fight in GM.
It's the first time I see Gonzo so angry on court :scared: but if you want to know what really happened go to the Scores thread and read my last post.
I really thought they were going to get into a huge fight :scared: I was so scared.
It seems that Gonzo wanted to go to the lockers room and fight after the match.

It wasn't a match that showed good tennis but it was exciting (horrible from my point of view and my nerves were killing me)
During the whole match for both was hard to hold serve!
After the first set everything was ok, Gonzo won it and didn't show problems with his shoulder but then after the second set he had to call the trainer.
And from the third to the fifth set he had cramps in his legs and kept exercinsing both legs and one moment (it was so heartbreaker) Gonzo had like a cramp and first he touched his leg, then less than a second later touched it again and in the third time he touched his leg and fell in the floor and hit the bad leg and part of his head and two people helped him and Bogomolov went to see what happened. After that, the trainer gave him some massages and he started playing again.

The last two sets were so intense. Both yelling the points, the crowd was crazy and then came the fight and everything.

Gonzo himself said it, if he had played a 60% of his tennis he would have won but it is the first time I see him so unconfortable and bad in a match and when I say bad I'm not talking that he was playing too bad but HE was feeling awful and everyone could see that.

Conclusion: it was a heartbreaker and nerves killer match...

I don't know what else to say ...

If someone has doubts about something or wants to know something more just tell.

After reading Gonzofan's report I think perhaps it may be a blessing in disguise that Fernando lost...playing 5 sets so early in the season (and Fena looks to be quite fit these days too) must be a physical strain on all the players really. I would hate even more to see him win but then have to pull out of a later match with an injury. Its little consolation I know but its all I've got! And I was trying to be neutral on the GM thread since I hadn't read thru Gonzofan's scoring thread but it really sounds like Bogmolov was a jerk-I knew Fena wouldn't have gotten so mad over nothing. What an all over awful match for him and those who care about him. It will take a bit to get over this one...

And again Gonzofan  you were very brave to keep going on the scoreing thread with all that happened.

Sparko is right - you definitely were very brave to stay with the match with all that going on.

Our poor Fernando - what a terrible time to have to go through. He said it was the worse he's ever felt on court. Lots of  for him.

The only good news is that he does have almost 2 weeks to recover. Rest his shoulder and get mental set for Vina and DC.

I just finished seeing the chilean news on TVN and saw some highlights of the GONZO vs Bogomolov Jr match. The match was WOW... no comments. Gonzo was hurting after one of his shots. It was pretty bad but got better as the match progressed. I also think it was bad for Bogomolov to make fun of Gonzos miss. When I saw Bogomolovs reaction after Gonzos miss I wanted to hit him with an 140 mph serve!!Sorry got a bit carried away... Gonzo also reacted to that but still Bogomolov started it. I hope Gonzo can rest now. Vamos Gonzo You'll have your chance...

I'm back after a good sleep (12 hours)
Yesterday, as many fans, I was devastated by Fernando's loss and had no courage to come back to MTF after my day at work. I was so tired physically (because I didn't sleep) and nervously that I went to bed right after dinner. This morning, I fell better & less depressed then yesterday. I'd like to thank again Gonzofan for the good work she did during the match :worship: we are a few to follow the match in Gonzo's forum at the beginning, and she was there to update the scores (she didn't need to do that cause we had the livescoreboard) but she gave us many information about Fernando. She could have stayed in her sofa watching the match. I followed the end of the match at work, nobody saw that I was following the match, but I didn't talk a lot (before and after), even my boss asked me if I was ok. I said : "yes, it's ok, thanks". I didn't want to tell that one of my fave tennis player lost
Well, then, I had to work, was difficult because all the tension of the match fell down and I was very tired, I even made some mistakes at work, cause I wasn't enough focused but I solved the things this morning, hopefully. I think I've been very involved in that match, more than I expected. After the match, I wanted to cry, I think I have only cried once for a player, it was when I went to Stockholm Open a few years ago and Thomas withdrew without playing and I saw him at the press conference (we can watch the press conference there). I was very very devasted cause i expected him to play, and a few days later, he went under surgery (his shoulder). Well, I was watching the press conference and wanted to cry, but as I'm a proud person :) I cried in my hotel  So, for yesterday, I was really really close to cry. I was so sad for him and to hear that he has problems with his shoulder, made me think of the past. And, he's so close to enter in the top 10 that he won't deserve to be stopped by an injury. I was also shocked by the behaviours, as we saw in the scores thread, A.B got a fine, so as Rogifan said, there's a justice. Well, the two first days of the Aussie open were very tough for me, cause my two faves in this tournament lost in the first round, in 5 sets and were close to win. So, now, don't think I'll follow, at least LIVE, I'll only watch the results and the summaries on tv.

I hope Fernando will recover soon, hope he'll forget that terrible match, but it's with tough matches that a player advance. Hope he'll be in a good shape to play the Viña del mar tournament and the DC, would be unfair if he had to withdraw from the DC. I hope he'll rest well during the 2 weeks he has and that his injury is not serious.

BIG  to Fernando and all his fans !!!

Great post Val  Your day yesterday and your feelings sound almost identical to mine. I only wanted to go home and cry after the match but I was stuck in the office with a hell of work. And my worries about his shoulder make me think of the past too and as you know just Thomas’ name has to be replaced by Pat’s for me.

I’m so worried about Fernando and we really have to keep our fingers crossed for him that it is nothing serious with his shoulder and that it will heal with some rest.

An article from emol:

Gildemeister and Orizola worry about shoulder of González

SANTIAGO. - The elimination of the Opened one of Australia will have to be forgotten quickly by Fernando González, since Friday, when it returns to Chile, will have to make several proceedings with a view to their participation in Vine of the Sea (must defend the points that managed the last year to arrive at the final) and Glass Davis against Slovakia. At his arrival, number 12 of ranking ATP will have to be put under medical examinations by the traumatólogo Alexander Orizola, who until has not talked now with the tennis player to know details the injury that aqueja for some weeks in the shoulder, and that yesterday caused evident annoyances to him in its elimination in Australia. Orizola commented that although it does not think that is a pathology so serious the one that affects González, "of all ways if it is only one fatigue we must deal it with well-taken care of not harming its participation in Vine of the Sea and Glass Davis", adding that this late will try to talk with the tennis player to have more details of the injury. On the other hand, the captain of Glass Davis, Hans Gildemeister, commented that any prognosis cannot become of the situation of González until has a conversation with him, explaining that "if everything comes out well, the next week Fernando is going to prepare itself to play in Vine, and I hope to be able to take it at least one late to Rancagua so that it knows the field".
