Same for me! Whatever staying up I can cope with will be saved for next week at the AO, where we actually have live TV coverage all night on Eurosport. I'll make myself ill if I start doing it now just to follow a live scoreboard for a warm-up tournament - and my Boss would not like me falling asleep at my desk too often!! :p

I have a tennis lesson tonight from 7.30 to 8.30 so by time I get home David's match should be starting so I can follow the live scores.

I can't wait til AO, I can watch some tape delayed matches at the office during the afternoons and then live coverage every night I will probably fall asleep watching.

There is no live scoreboard for Auckland

David's 2nd round opponent is Sluiter.

Well done, David, nice to see at least one or two Armada boys winning.

Oh, and I adore paella! I made it last month and will make it again this month!! A tradition I've kept since living in Valencia! Yummy! [Juanqui once said that "paella helps" -- I think he needs to eat it every day cos he needs all the help he can get!]

 David was down a break early in the first set when I realized I hadn't eaten any paella yet yesterday, I warmed some up and as soon as I started to eat it he broke back and eventually broke Sluiter 2 more times to win the match.

QF opponent: Oli Rochus.

I know but bless him he isn't used to me going mad over David it is normally only Carlos Moya & Marat Safin.
My brother saw the match - lucky git is on holiday in NZ - and said that he just played really bad, but he kept flexing his ankle. They must have interviewed him because all he said was that Rochus played really well & he didn't.

 I just read on the website that Oli said he played his best match ever - he didn't have any errors.

I was awake for the whole match and then some. I am such a winner coming into the office on about 5 hours of sleep all total. I had a dream where David was complaining about his shoulder, glad that isn't true.

I hope they give him a late start at the AO (Wednesday?) so he's got a few days to get over this foot issue. If he has to withdraw I will be :hysteric: as he's just about my only fave who's not withdrawn yet and was playing pretty well.

As far as I know, US Open is the only Grand Slam that still hold 1st round matches on a Wednesday - all the others clear them on Monday and Tuesday, so that's unlikely unless it rains there. I guess he could ask for Tuesday evening though. Personally I'd rather he pulled out, than played with an injury that could get worse over time. He has no points to defend (lost in the 1st round last year), - and he needs to be fighting fit for the clay court season where I imagine he'll expect to make up most of his points. Just my opinion though.

Lynn and I are in the Eastern US/Canada zone, which is 5 hours behind the UK.

So it will 7 pm on Sunday night EST and that's 4 pm PST (if any West Coasters are lurking about).

ESPN2 has live coverage that night but seriously doubt we will see more than maybe 3 minutes of the match.

I'll have to go shopping to get more ingredients to make more paella. I'll make flan if he reaches the 2nd week as that's what I did for Rafa for RG. :)

Davenport vs Australian WC Casey (can't remember last name) is first up on Rod Laver so that is probably what ESPN2 will be broadcasting. However in true WTA style it should be over in about 42 minutes so I hope they switch to an ATP match at that point.

Still  as hell when ESPN2 never even showed any of Ferrer-Gaudio from RG last year.

GWH saw David practicing yesterday but didn't stop long enough to take any pictures for me.

You're lucky to have only Henman and Murray in england, because in France we have a lot of (crappy  ) players and almost no chance to see other players till all the french one are still in the tournament...

We usually have Rusedski too  but he's stayed home this time waiting for the birth of his first baby. So at least that is one less crappy English player to follow! Mind you, as Juan Mónaco has drawn two Frenchmen this year (Lisnard in the 1st round and a potential clash with Grosjean in the 2nd) - maybe I should move to France so I can watch him play :p

He lost the second 7-5. I really thought he was going to win the second set he bought it back to 4-3 & he had 2 chances for 5-3 blew them got broke himself then broke back, got broke again & then Santoro served out to love to win 7-5. He really has no idea what to do, looks like Safin will have another member of the "I hate playing Santoro" club.

I fell asleep and by time I woke up David was down a break at 3-4 in the 3rd. He broke back but then was broken at 5 all and Fabrice served for the match successfully. :crying2:

 I wished David would beat Ancic easily and he did. Before the season started my hopes for AO was 4th round-that's the result he got. I didn't think he'd have this much trouble with Santoro so I didn't concentrate on it but I ate the last of the paella 2 hours before his match started.

Am I the only person who thinks David doesn't do well with later matches (ones that go past 5 pm)? Or maybe it was the indoor conditions. So now their H2H is 1-1 (David won their other meeting in 3 sets at Montreal last year).

Looks like Fabrice played a very tidy match, 14 UEs in 3 sets is quite low and he returned better than David.

 David's serves seemed to be slower than usual in the games I was watching the scoreboard and he didn't have any aces.

53 winners. :speakles:

I watched the whole match on Eurosport, it was a good match. The reason for the high unforced error count was that Santoro was messing with our boys' head. It looked like a couple of times David was going to run away with it then Santoro would change something & suddenly win 3 games! David was talking to himself the entire match, he broke a raquet got a code violation and basically looked like a little boy being given a master class. There was a shot of him in the last game in which he had the bottom of his shirt in his mouth and he looked like he wanted to cry & I think that summed up his match.
What I found amazing is that this is the first time Santoro has reached the last eight.

I got up and watched the match live too alisia, and I agree 100% with your comments. Santoro was really messing with our poor David's head, and he looked so much like a "little boy lost" out there that I wanted to go out on court and hug him! Well bizarrely I was in the kitchen feeding the cats at the time - so I missed it too  I gather it was a really bad call in David's favour, and Santoro argued quite vociferously and looked like he might even get a warning at one point - but pulled himself together. Sorry I can't help further - guess the moral of this story is that we must train our pets to look after themselves more :p Btw - am I the only person who was really p***** off by the biased, pro-Santoro commentary in that match - it made me

To be honest Rosie I tend to turn the sound down when David is playing on Eurosport only Simon Reed seems to have something good to say about our boy but from what bit I heard it was very biased towards Santoro, thou I think they were both suprised he won. I think that is why i like watching it on sky interactive no commentry. One thing they did say however sorry for this Elea they thought David was mentally alot tougher than Gaston so Santoro's tricks shouldn't upset him too much!! How ironic really.
I didn't realised thou he'd hit so many winners thou I must say I thought the forced error count would be higher.
My boyfriend thought I was very entertaining watching this mornings match, apparentely I kept saying how much I really don't like Santoro & how much like a little boy David looked & how he could do with a kick up the backside one minute & then a hug the next, he of course was cheering for Santoro, I really hope Man U get thrashed today!

But it was still a great tournament for him and I think that he will provide us with a lot of exciting and big matches throughout the year.  I´m very proud of you David!!!

I thought it best to use the 'old' threads for this years tourneys if possible. I know I'm very early and the new season has to get started still but I'm soooooo tired of no tennis so here it goes.

Sadly I just read on David's website that he has an injury - so I think he may pull out of Auckland as a precaution to be fit and ready for the AO. Hope he is OK.

I think you are right, could it be the mysterious 7th though? Not sure if he'd enjoy my kisses, he might get scared. But he better get used to 'interesting' older girls, before Ali takes him out for lunch in Palm Springs.:D

It seems like a small thing, they even say he's gonna start training again in a day or two, just less intense. I sure hope he'll play Auckland, because I need some live-score follow action. I've been all shaky for the last few weeks since quitting the scoreboard cold-turkey.:scared:

:wavey:

Well I've watched the whole thing and you should be happy you went to bed.

Let's start of by saying: YIPPEE DAVID WON 7-6, 3-6, 2-6:bounce:

So I went to play tennis. Lost my first set like David 7-6 than tanked the second 6-1(it didn't cost me to much trouble though, I really honestly sucked:p ) and didn't shower at there to be home on time for the Ferrer-Gaudio match. When I got here the Vliegen-Tipsi match was still on so I went to walk Noodles. And I find that we still don't have running water.

Anyway I came back to witness a complete break-feast for the first 5 games. And an absolutely flat first set. They were both serving like old ladies and I've never seen so many unforced errors on both sides(including when I play:eek: ). Gaudio was screaming less than nice things in Spanish from the beginning of the match and he decided to break a racquet nice and early in the first set. Second set was  too but David started to play a bit better, moving somewhat less rusty while Gaston was chitchatting to Franco more and more. The poor boy foot-faulted a few times and even managed to make a joke about it. Third set Gaudio had already gone home and our David was up 5-0 when he decided that in true Ferrer fashion it would be to easy to just finish it of like that.:banghead: So Gaudio who was playing like he didn't care hit some good balls because I imagine he couldn't give a ratsa** anymore and finally David decided to close it out at 6-2.:D

Elea I really feel for you. But believe me I didn't enjoy this match to much either.

Rosie our beloved Javi was sitting sort of undercover so I saw him but no close ups. And David didn't look half bad in his boring new Lotto gear.:hearts:

Rosie I will get to see your boy play tonight.:D I have figured out that he has also played in CR at the Copa Cafe in 2005 and got beaten by a Dutch guy in the final.

Ali on a scale from 1-10 David looks an 8 I would say. That's because he's David and not because of the Lotto gear. Only real positive I could find is that with the Lotto cap when he wears it the stupid velcro piece doesn't stick out.

Just dropping in to say good fight from Ferrer today - it's one of the things I like best about him, even if it is stressful at times! (I'm actually a huge fan, just never post here.) It was a hard match for me as well, since Gaudio is another big favorite, and I really wanted to see him get off to a good start this year, I decided to just be happy with whoever got the win and pull for that one to win the whole thing.

Wish I'd known about the livestream before now, I probably could have watched, but will be sure to keep up with the schedule from here on out.

Good luck to David the rest of the week - would love to see him kick off 2007 with a title.

Thanks for the welcome everyone:-), and for the OOP for tomorrow.

Maybe Robredo-Martin will be a quick match and let me catch David before work tomorrow.

Doubling up on matches will be tough, but with AO coming up I imagine better to do it at this point in the tournament, with more time to recover before a GS kicks off, and as far as this field, at least it leaves everyone in the same position and not some getting the advantage on only one match per day.

Thank God he has just realized I'm still here and because he can't let me down, he's now up 4-3 in the second.:) I take it he's still warming up and maybe Kristof is getting a bit tired by now.

VAMOS DAVID:bounce:

Next up Chela or Fish. If Chela goes through we'll have Spanish-Argentine QFs:D because Robredo is through too.

Monaco and Calleri have just started but I'm to tired to watch it. Off to bed I go.:wavey:

Two good wins; I'm going to have to put a big reminder on the computer to check out the livestream option for the next matches.

Not that I doubt David's ability to post such a convincing win, but I'm more use to him pushing the limits - was Bracciali *that* out of it or injured, or was David really just playing that well?

Even dropping the first set to Vliegen, the scores from the final two sets seem to say he got on track and didn't struggle too much to make the semis.

Bracciali had a bad back I believe. I'm not sure, as it was the middle of the night for me so I didn't watch it. Linda could probably help you more when she gets here.

What a score against Bracciali! :yeah: David seems to be in a very good shape :)
As i read in the Vliegen's blog, on his first match of the day, Kristof played better in his last set against Almagro so i guess he kept on playing well on the first set against David but not well enough
I'm sorry for my "ex-husband" Kristof, but Congrats David  :bigclap:
Now it's time for Fish, i wonder if i'll be able to see the match on my tv, or, at least a review on friday

Bracciali said in his pre-match interview he had a sore back & would only be able to role his serve in. The only game he won was a break of serve. As for Vliegen he had a long v Almagro & he had to come from behind in the 3rd so he probably ran out of gas.

Like Ali and Rosie said, Bracciali had a bad back and didn't play 100%. In the second set David seemed to get a little :retard: by that. And possible he got tired of the commentators like Ali and I. Because he was starting to df a little more and hit a few more ufe.

The Vliegen match I didn't see because it wasn't on cc. But it looked like quite a fight until the last set when Vliegen had been on a tenniscourt for 41/2 hours so David put him out of his misery fast.:D

Can't believe Chela let Fish win. Anyway David has a 1-2 h2h against Fish. Last time they played was last year and David hooked him and before that way back in 2004 Fish won twice. So make of that what you want.

:bounce: :bounce: ANIMO DAVID

Believe me I was pleasently suprised to find him on my computer this morning ;) I'm planning on staying in bed all day tomorrow to catch up on my sleep ahead of next week :o
What I saw of his match he played pretty much like he did Wednesday night but without the dbl faults :D obviously Javi had him practicing.
My boy's off tonight & was hoping to go out but I told him I'd a prior engagement with 2 gorgeous boys  I wonder if the Sydney final will be on at the sametime so I can hopefully see Carlos win as well?

Nice job to reach the final. Fish is one of those players I just totally destest, who can usually make me pull for players I normally wouldn't, so coming against him makes it that much better.

Good luck tomorrow against Tommy! I've given up on the livestream, but maybe I'll be able to hold out to at least follow on livescore.
