He could have racked up two pre-slam titles in January, and gotten a top-four seeding at the Australian.

He was said to be dissapointed that the season had to end after his Masters Cup win. So why prolong professional play until mid-January?

Nalbo has used Kooyong as his only warm-up for the Aussie Open for the past few years. It makes good sense in my opinion. It's a long season and he doesn't want to overplay and possibly burn-out too early.
He's been playing in 3/4 exhibitions over the off-season aswell. Don't worry he'll be ready for Melbourne disturb3d.
