Like that one mate but my confidence is shattered after both Davydenko and Nieminen went down. Any other day I'd play this one, but I might leave this week alone after going from 7-0 to 8-4 in two days.

What was Ukraine's odds last night? I can't imagine it would have been more than $1.15?

Donkey should never be backed at those odds against anyone, he is a known tanker espcially when we are talking about some meaningless tournament in the middle of the desert

champ, I was trying to point out why it's not a good idea to take the short odds consistantly in the long term.

For example: if you back players at 1.20, you need 5 winners for every loss you have (assuming even staking), and even then you are only even. So at 1.20 you need 6 winners for every loss - not as easy as it sounds.

sounds nice in principle, but gambling is a tricky trade - if it weren't, it wouldn't be so profitable to a few, and detrimental to most.

I got $1.21 at Pinnacle which I thought was massive overs - as you said BG shouldn't have been over $1.15 considering Volandri hadn't won a match on hardcourt after 9 attempts (in '05) coming into the tournament.

Jim, I've taken three players at around $1.20 and under - which I saw as overs - but in hindsight, it is the start of the season and one was bound to lose sooner or later. My average odds for the season so far are $1.57 so it's not like I'm consistantly taking very short odds but anyway I've learnt a valuable lesson this week and have still come out with 2 units profit.

I'm sticking w/ Paradorn, he clobbered Vliegen last year & a couple wins by KV vs. avg. opponents don't hide his miserable hc showing to close last year....
Can't believe this is my 3rd bet of the week on him, but came up w/ too many reasons not to go w/ other matches - 2nd choice was Monfils over Vol, but no bet for me there - just about every time Monfils scores some nice ws he loses to someone he shouldn't...
bet to win a unit on the Thai

Phau looks to be good value to upset Moya. Even Ladbrokes are offerring 3.50.

Anybody think much of his chances? Last I remember, Moya wasn't too consistent.

how much is an unit?

whatever your base bet is (commonly 1 pct. of your total stake), could be a dollar
most ppl base it on 1.0 though, so $1,$10,$100,$1000 depending on how much your playing is easiest
I find it easier to bet that way as it keeps my bets more consistent - less likely to chase, but of course that's just psychological. Also easier to add - when I win anyway :)

:), congrats on your win - I saw you were on KV & thought twice - shoulda thought thrice
he was certainly implying he was on it though...
pretty funny I lose one bet I've posted & he jumps on it - he'd be up almost 11 grand if he followed my bets all week though - me, I'm only up $1050 in half a week - what a waste of time, lol

Frankly I worry about this match. Davydenko may lack in consistency, but if Volandri can score a win over him on his own worst surface, who knows what could come of shaky Gael.

Monfils looking in good shape.

Now's time to ask your views on another matter.

Serra's been playing well, with wins over Robredo and Nieminen - both expected to easily progress past him. In this form I think he can definitely take the Dominator, who didn't look too great against either Philippoussis or Carlsen. Some sportsbooks are giving Serra as good as 3.50 to win. Does anybody think it's worth it?

Save ur penny mate,u cant compare Dom's mental toughness against Robredo (choker) Jarkko (which one gonna turn up)???? Only thing that could hurt Dom is Serra would have to be serving brilliantly (not sure how good the guys serve is or how potent) but either way Dom will have him for breaky on the floor and also Dom no slouch, ask Poo when his serves started comin back twice as quick
