Surely not the worst draw, so c'mon boys !!!!!

01-11-2006, 05:52 PM
our guys dont have luck to Saoudi.

btw, Matka / Frytka won with Knowles / Nestor in doubles this week  they lost the next match what doesnt change the fact i'm impressed.

i fear Olej will be scared of his first grand slam match and this would suck

01-12-2006, 09:10 AM
A very good achievement for both. Now the opposition is tougher, but they can make it. I have a dream that one of them advances and plays Roger in 1st round. I guess they would like this dream come through as well

01-12-2006, 11:02 AM
didn't Adam defeat Benneteau recently or smth? I might be wrong... but I guess...
and Capdeville uhmm let's see! I'm very happy for both!
I think 3rd round is in their reach.

Olej is in the final round of qualifications and he can surely defeat Adaktusson, with whom Michal Przysiezny won lately. If he does it, it will be the biggest achievement of his career !!!!

Forza Dawid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

01-13-2006, 10:30 AM
lol at Przysiężny ;)

I fear of this match.... Dawid have ups and downs in his "psychika" ;) But yeah, it would make me really happy! then he could play for instance Dick Norman and wouldn't be without chances...
ahh i'm dreaming too much
*back to books*

01-14-2006, 08:44 AM
Dang, it was so close for Olej. Better luck next time (if there is next time) !!!!!

01-14-2006, 09:47 AM
sucked
all in this head.

01-23-2006, 11:29 PM
Let's not forget to support our doubles Fyrstenberg / Matkowski, who are now a break up in the 1st set in their QF against Fisher / Gimelstob. This is their first career Grand Slam quarterfinal and first GS QF for Poland since a loooooooooooooooooooong time (in senior tournaments, cause we had junior GS champions lately)

01-24-2006, 07:30 AM
it's already the semis

01-24-2006, 09:56 AM
 :woohoo: :yeah: :rocker2: :worship: :bounce: They will play Leander Paes / Martin Damm and are not chanceless in semis. I thought they would play Mirnyi / Bjorkman and that would be the end of the story. Now this is becoming the best achievement of Polish tennis in years

01-27-2006, 08:03 PM
Thanks Kristen,

My father used to be a tennis player and he stayed till 1 am to watch Fyrst/Matk against Damm/Paes for the 1st time and he admitted that they sucked a lot in that match. Anyway, its the best achievement by Poles in tennis since 1978

All the best to Younes :smoke: "pothead" El Ayanoui :)

01-30-2006, 11:33 AM
Lukasz Kubot plays Korolev in the 1st round of Andrezieux challenger. This will probably be the match of the day for Natalia.

01-30-2006, 07:54 PM
Ahh Korolev.
Actually the best news for me was JMDP winning his first ATP match.

01-31-2006, 02:59 PM
You suck Kubot, get your act together !!!!!!!!!!!!

01-31-2006, 03:01 PM

02-13-2006, 12:35 AM
Łukasz Kubot played a semifinal in our challenger, while Matka / Frytka won the doubles :yeah:
but the player of the week (I mean all players of the tournament) was Michał Przysiężny.

Brawo Ołówek!!!!!

02-14-2006, 11:37 AM
Dawid (teamed with Radim Zitko) against Lipsky/Nielsen today.
He was getting quite frustrated with himself. Some superb rallies only to lose the point with a thoughtless shot. Otherwse, I have enjoyed his match :yeah:

02-14-2006, 12:42 PM
haha definitely him! can you shout at him he didn't come to Wrocław, with wishes of best luck from the press office crew?

02-15-2006, 08:26 AM
Kristen, that still wasn't the maccas guy! the maccas dude had plain white shirt on, and was on court 14. this dawid looked like he was on court 15 (the end one, near the bush)... oh well thanks anyway :)

02-15-2006, 08:32 AM
It might have been an Aussie then. I saw a couple of guys training there but wasn't sure who they were. There were Aussies watching the guys train... unless Dawid replaced someone else?! I dunno ;) It'll have to remain a mystery. Another Case for 2007! Add it to the "PimPim, who are you dating, REEEALLY?" pile...

Maybe the aussies replaced the mystery guy. I didn't mean Dawid :retard:

Adam Chadaj - Ivo Heuberger 46 46

03-10-2006, 01:35 PM
Kubot is such an arse. If I hadn't known the name before, I would realise that he will never make a breakthrough to the TOP100 after three first games yesterday against Gimelstob. It was:

Kubot serving

0-15 double fault
15-15 ace
15-30 double fault

in the first service game

in his 2nd service game.

I know he wasn't a favourite here, but c'mon....

Lukasz Kubot (3) - Dusan Vemic 61 63 :rocker2:

Lukasz Kubot (3) - Edgardo Massa (q) 64 61 :rocker2:

Lukasz Kubot (3) - Benjamin Becker 36 46

Ho Chi Minh City challenger MD

1st round

Adam Chadaj - Yeu-Tzuoo Wang (1) 67 36

03-11-2006, 09:37 PM
OK, so the master of tennis and future # 1 on ATP tour, Lukasz Kubot is playing on clay for the first time this season in Ecuador.
The draw look like it would be easy for me to reach QFinal. If he doesn't achieve it, he should try to stick to something else, f.e. knitting.

Awesome Adam is already out

03-16-2006, 09:11 AM
Kubot got this quaters.... no knitting

but I guess it's the last round for him cos now to face Massa, right?

03-16-2006, 10:17 AM
Yes, Massa. Should be tough, but it would be a great achievement for Qbot if he wins.

03-17-2006, 10:11 AM
No i wygrał... normalnie wygrał....

i mean......

he won, really won!!!! plays semis  i bet local women faint for him

03-17-2006, 01:55 PM
wow, that's a good score for Kubot. He hasn't lost a set yet and he won all of his six easily. Now a possible semifinal clash with his doubles partner !

03-17-2006, 03:31 PM
no, he plays Becker /no relation to Boris as far as I know/

still, semis is great. no expectation he wins.

03-18-2006, 11:12 AM
unexpected score in quarterfinal and the same in semi

03-18-2006, 07:20 PM
Kubot :smash:

he thought he was playing Boris when he saw B. Becker :scared: :smash: :ras:

03-20-2006, 09:09 AM
week # 12

Miami qualifications:

1st round:

Lukasz Kubot - Igor Kunitsyn (19) 46 26

03-20-2006, 09:12 AM
It was of course a great idea to play qualies for the Masters Series on hard, then low-ranked challenger on clay, just to get back to qualies on hard once more. I wish that Lukasz could do better, he has all-round style, could adjust to many surfaces. I don't know why he can't play on ATP level, there are some players ranked on similar places who play a lot of ATP tournaments (Luczak, Lisnard, Saulnier, etc.). Anyway, GO Lukasz !!! (although it's definetely a tough draw)

03-26-2006, 10:12 PM
week # 13

Napoli challenger MD:

1st round:

Lukasz Kubot - Simone Bolelli 26 36

03-27-2006, 12:07 PM
so now from quallies on hard our hero strikes back in the challenger on clay :rocker2: and likely to lose to Bolelli

03-28-2006, 11:23 PM
You suck, Kubot

03-29-2006, 12:16 PM
I can see our DC team against Latvia.

Kubot (...)
Przysiężny (always losing to any Latvian he meets... cursed by Juska, kept by Gulbis)
Matkowski & Fyrstenberg

03-29-2006, 03:45 PM
I am still wondering how did that happen and it will probably stay as one of the unsolved tennis misteries for me

2004 ITA v. POL EAG2 3rd. Rd., Clay, RR
Livorno, Italy Clay RR Kubot Volandri 3 6 6 4 6 1 6 7 6 2

03-29-2006, 04:55 PM
There was a livestream from that match. Geez, it just happened, he was going to net and it worked. Once. Then. Since that time he always goes to net. And doesn't work.

04-02-2006, 08:09 PM

04-07-2006, 09:34 PM
OK, so who is Romanowski? I don't know the name of his opponent, so maybe he will have some luck
No. Romanowski won 1 game against Mannarino from my stories. During that match Mannarino was playing between legs and running around the... next court.

No chance for Polish player, sorry.

Look at DC. Kubot :silly:

OK, nie chce mi sie pisac po angielsku. Czy moze mi ktos wytlumaczyc dlaczego te łosie z Polski nie graja w kwalifikacjach do mniejszych turniejow ATP? Mamy taka np. Casablankę, gdzie Kubot bylby rozstawiony z jedynką w kwalifikacjach i gralby w trzech rundach z jakimis Arabami i pewnie by awansowal, a w main draw tez graja goscie zupelnie do pokonania. Morons

So, for the second time in a row, Kubot will be beaten by Rastogi. After presenting good tennis in 1st round of qualifications and defeating bye after one-sided match, Przysiezny lost to some guy whom I don't know at all. Both Chadaj and Olejniczak should exit early. Good week for Poles !!!

Sorry for not updating, but you know....May break etc... Anyway, props to Kubot for making the final last week, props to Przysiezny for making the main draw in ATP as the 1st Pole this year and props to Panfil for making it to Ostrava main draw through qualies. A good period for Polish tennis !!!

And as you can see, Kubot reached his career high this week. Way to go !!!!!!!!!! And Przysiezny is coming close to becoming the 2nd ranked Pole. He can reach it after great run in Estoril, but let's wait till Monday, as I'm not in the mood for counting it

Radwanska rocks :rocker2:

Good job Michal and Grzegorz :yeah:

Good luck Matka and Frytka.

PS. Michal didn't earn many points, like for a quater of a challenger. But he gained money and some serious experience. He qualified to Amersfoort in 2004 and lost4-6 4-6 to D. Sanchez. Now added won set 7-6 :p next time he'll win... hopefully even b'fore Sopot :worship:

Lucasz Kubot has beaten Brendan Evans 6-1 6-2 in the 1st round of US Open qualifying for his easiest win in.....well a LONG TIME  . Good luck in the 2nd round. Maybe this will be the Grand Slam where finally a Polish man makes the main draw?

Kubot in US Open main draw after beating Wessels 7:6 6:4 :woohoo:

I saw some of that match. Basically it was two guys serving really hard. I'm glad Lukasz qualified, but he'll need to learn to mix up his game a bit more.

I also saw Agnieska Radawana win her qualifier. She is going to be great.

08-30-2006, 10:56 PM
Kubot beat Vliegen 2:6 6:1 6:4 1:6 6:3
according "Gazeta" he was playing really good , coming many times to the net . Especially fantastic when he broke Vliegen at 5:3 in the last set .
Now time to beat Okun :)

hey to everyone in the thread. [:wavey:] Just got back from the Sheffield F2 Futures event [in England] and want to report Wojciech Starakiewicz, a 19 year old Polish player. Came through three rounds of qualifying to reach R1 where he beat Ken Skupski in three sets. His game seems ok, not technically perfect but pretty effective however it is his personality that drew everyone in. His gamesmanship is actually brilliant to watch although he does annoy his fellow players. Here's the report I wrote about the match:

'And then there was possibly my favourite match of the day; Poland's Wojciech Starakiewicz against Ken Skupski. The Pole had gone through three rounds of qualifying and word quickly got round about his on-court antics, more spectators/players/coaches watched this match than any other. Starakiewicz 's strokes looked technically quite poor ]based on my poor knowledge of stroke production] yet they were effective and he was able to move Skupski around and produce some nice winners. His serve was of a good quality but you nearly fell asleep wating for it as he demanded all 4 balls at the beginning of every one of his service points, strolled up towards to the service line and then to the back of court before he would finally serve. During points he regularily demanded a let when a stray ball came close to the court, notably when Ken was on top. If he won an important/long point/passing shot he would shout 'Thats the shot!', 'Amazing shot'.. and many others that I have forgotten. On top of this there was his on court manerisms which all of the players watching seemed to have a distaste for and Ken, walking back to serve, called him a 'd******d'. During the first set Ken played pretty bad, spraying forehands a foot or so long on a regular basis and it looked like he was going to go down in two easy sets, but he managed to grind his way back into the match and take the second set. The play was fairly equal by the third set and it really was difficult to predict which way it was going to go, although Ken did seem to have the slight upper hand. Ken had two match points during the final tiebreak but Starakiewicz handled the pressure amazingly considering that was to be his first ATP ranking point and [questionably] deservedly won. He also treated everyone to a Federer style collapse on the court after taking his MP... Funny/annoying guy! '

That piece doesn't really do his antics justice.. He's a great character to watch and I found that when it came to day two I was looking forward to his match the most [although I don't know how it ended as I left before it finished..]

Just noticed that a fellow poster on 'britishtennis.net' wrote this about him:

Disappointing for Ken, though I'm pleased for the young Pole, everyone has been charmed by him, he gets a bus from his £20 a night guest house to the centre every day to save on the taxi fare, dont know how many of the British players are on the bus but I reckon not many, that's his first ever point, and so maybe Skupster can forgive him this one.'

If you can get to see this guy I would recommend it as he is definitely a character to say the least..

First of all, thanks James for the long and interesting reports:)

Good to hear some nice stories about our fellow players playing abroad. Wojciech Starakiewicz is definitely a great character to watch, unfortunately so long he is one of the most underestimated players in Poland. I can’t however agree with your statement that he has a poor technique. In fact good technique and a very wide variety of shots is one of his biggest strengths. He still lacks some experience on the tour, but the current year should be the crucial one to change it. He has a very good coach (trains in the Netherlands with Michiel Schapers) and he is very ambitious, so I am sure You will have a chance to see him again.

Regards for all the fans from 'britishtennis.net'

i think Jerzy Janowicz is the most talented polish players. In next year he is going to first 200 ranking ATP.

Yes you are probably correct Salinas with regards to Starakiewicz's technique; as I stated in the report above I am hardly a beacon of knowledge when it comes to technique! You are certainly correct about the variety within his game, he seemed to have solid groundstrokes on either side, well equipped at the net and a consistent and well placed serve.

I may be wrong but I wouldn't imagine tennis in general being all that popular in Poland!?! However if Starakiewicz is able to climb the rankings he would most likely gain some fans due to his personality..
